As she likes to say, Doris Kearns Goodwin has spent most of her Career Writing about dead president s, immersing herself in their papers, diaries, and letters in an attempt to bring them back to life. In her new book, an unfinished love story, she turns that attention to her marriage. Before his death, she opened more than 300 documents and memorabilia with her husband Richard Goodwin who served as a Speech Writer for president john f. Kennedy, a Time Capsule of their life in the 1960s. In her 20s, door was was chosen to be a white House Fellow for president johnson, one of only three women out of the 16 fellows selected and developed a Loyalty And Closeness to president johnson, which has lasted her entire life.
