Phil wagons. And the old black rats wing Memphis Minnie tune we've got 3 minutes after 2 o'clock. And let's see here let's get a handful more. From the Eleanor record label some more of these living country blues recordings from the live in country blues USA series so a series of albums on a German label I think that was parts of parts of them were reissued on the evidence label years ago you may still be able to find the vinyl on these. But I love these old feel I love these field recordings these aren't all field recordings but these are field recordings nonetheless. And we're going to hear in this next set we're going to start off with a little something from Archie Edwards who is very popular in the d.c. Area we'll hear from Walter Brown and then a couple guitar we've got a couple guitar guys guitar Frank and Guitar Slim not the slim that celebrated his birthday but another slim there's lots of Slim's out there are frank great story behind guitar Frank his real name is Frank Covington he was out of Delaware and he was afraid that if he used his real name on any of these recordings that they were gonna take his Social Security away so that is why he still did some recordings and he was nobody no Israel name and guitar Frank so here we go lol Archie Edwards to get things going on the road is rough and rocky You're listening to blues by you and you're tuned to k.c. As far. Going to take. Your words on the way. You got me you were good gabber Well we weren't all. On the beach. From. The old. Or. But there you have Guitar Slim playing the piano Yes surreal and some home blues was the name of that one before that guitar Frank having 10 and railroad bill Walter Brown was sing in Alberta and we started things off with Archie Edwards and the road is rough and rocky Those are all recordings from. Well from the livin Country Blues series came out on the on our label out of Germany years ago all of it has been reissued check it out. Most of the stuff you can find on Spotify in fact a lot of the the majority of the music that I play on this program you can find on Spotify and it's also a good way to purchase some of the stuff good stuff all right we've got a few minutes left James going to come in and fill in for it's just jazz Steve's probably off in Europe somewhere or you know maybe gallivanting on the East Coast who knows I mean he's such the world traveler good thing we got Jim to fill in so stick around for that I got a few more minutes I was reading. This is how insane I am I was read in an old European blues publication from back 991 and they were doing a review on a big Big Bill Broonzy box at that came out and they made mention of the fact of a tune that. Was entitled You got to hit the right leg. And so Broonzy with his piano player just the Joshua Hammer and Fred Williams on the drums recorded that particular recording on April 14th 1940 you've got to hit the right lick and on the very 1st recording of this he mentions Babe Ruth in the song and he also mentions Joe Louis towards the end of the the last 2nd to the last verse. And then for some reason they re record that that song. Some 4 months later. And to change the title. To. Hit the right lake. It change the piano player blind John Davis replaces Josh on the piano. But the reference to Babe Ruth and the reference to Joe Louis is mysteriously missing so I thought I would play both of those back to back to kind of in the program kind of an arresting. I don't know why Joe Lewis was in quite a few. Blue songs he was the Brown Bomber he was the African-Americans hero back then. And so I can understand why he would stay in but why they took you know what I can understand I guess why they took Babe Ruth out but not Joe Lewis in arresting don't know the story behind it but gives me excuse to play both of them because it's a good tune so I'm going to bid you good bye Jim you'll be in good hands with Jim Hall cause he's coming in and he'll take until 5 o'clock and he's got a stack of good C.D.'s He's going to keep you a very well entertains to stick around Here's a couple from Big Bill Broonzy from 1940 You got to hit the right lick him a followed up with hit the right leg Thanks again be talkin at you next week. You may play by. The right. If Iran are called to. Their home run. Don't you know. Got that. You tell you what. The smaller. Crowd around you would see. A living. Breathing home. John have you told everybody that he could. When he met Joe look. Mining. Coal in. You. Know not being you. Don't. Know. Me. Don't you know bore the. Name. Right BUSY READY. When you turn. Your. Boy and chop down. Right when. You do. She brings out vagueness. In. Uganda was. One you need to be. You've got to take the little film Born on your feet. So you deny that. It's a right.
