Emergency and imposes a curfew as the unrest reignites in ferguson following the shooting death of 18yearold Michael Brown. Good evening, everyone, im natasha brown. Thanks for joining us. There is a renewed calm call that is for calm after protests turn violent again overnight. Eyewitness News Reporter matt rivers is live in the cbs3 sat center with the developing details for us. Matt. Natasha, it has been one week since Michael Brown an unarmed black teenager from ferguson, missouri, was shot and killed by a Police Officer. And today, officials declared a state of emergency and a temporary curfew for the town as they called for calm. Reporter from 12 00 a. M. To 5 00 a. M. Each night, no one will be allowed to and fergusons streets. That was the announcement by missouri governor jay nixon late saturday afternoon after days of protests some violent, most peaceful. This is not to silence people of these region. Reporter the press conference was extremely confrontational as both police and government officials were routinely shouted down by protesters. You need to charge that police with murder. Reporter members of the press did not have a chance to ask questions. Members of the public called for a swift prosecution of ferguson officer Darren Wilson who shot Michael Brown. Todays curfew announcement came after a day of marches and steady rain commemorating the one week anniversary of browns death. The protest is to be silent. Our heads uplifted, dont shoot and our heads down in deference to parents who have lost their child. Reporter shortly after midnight, officials said small groups of protesters turned violent. One canister of tear gas was deployed and three Police Officers were injured. The actions prompted todays curfew announcement. Friday Ferguson Police first identified officer wilson as browns shooter but in that same press conference, they said brown was a suspect in a Convenience Store robbery that happened minutes before his death. Police released video of the robbery showing a man who resembles brown. Police said brown was confronted 10 minutes later by officer wilson. Browns family challenged the timing of the announcement. The family feels that that was strategic. They think it was aimed at denigrating their son. It was a character assassination attempt. Reporter and they say even if he did commit the crime, he did not deserve to die. The fbi now has a heavy presence in the area sending agents door to door to assist in the investigation into the shooting. Police also announced today that the press will be given a staging area tonight to ensure transparency in the process. Meantime four Young Children killed in a fire on gesner street in southwest philadelphia last month were laid to rest today. Small caskets lined the front of divine mercy parish on chester a family and friends remembered fouryearold twins marie and maria bowah, four year old patrick and one month old taj. Our beloved children rest in Perfect Peace and may. Officials released a report on the fire yesterday. It says the flames began on a porch. 13 homes were destroyed. Now turning to weather the weekend is off to a great start. Eyewitness news at fort mifflin were families were enjoying this summer day. Question is will we stay dry for the rest of the weekend. Here well have a slight chance for a shower especially north and west, especially in the poconos early tomorrow morning but otherwise were going to see dry and comfortable conditions. Very nice outside right now, low humidity. The High Temperature today 80 degrees over most locations, trenton, philadelphia, wilmington close to 80 for millville and atlantic city, wildwood topped off at 81 degrees this afternoon. Heres where we are right now. Still sitting at 80 at the airport, upper 70s pretty much across south jersey, dover at 76 degrees, also 76 in allentown. Some suburbs very comfortable this hour. Already down to 76 in pottstown, still upper 70s quakertown, doylestown, 78 degrees in mount holly, new jersey. Humidity its pretty much nonexistent we look at the dewpoint temperature, very low for summer time. Were in the lower 50s, even some 40s in some spots. Little bit different in south jersey. You have a flow coming off the water so thats adding a little moisture to the air. But overall its comfortable overnight. Partly cloudy skies tonight, slight chance for a shower after midnight especially north and west of the city as a weak cold front approach the region. Looks like tomorrow stays mainly dry, partly sunny skies, 85 comfortable in philadelphia, lower 80s at the shore. A fisherman found human remains floating in the river near the 4800 block of fort mifflin road this morning. Eyewitness news in southwest philly. The marine unit removed those remains. Right now the medical examiner is working to identify the victim. And the search is on for a gunman who shot and killed al 27yearold man in carol park. Eyewitness news here at 55th and lansdowne just before midnight. Philadelphia police say the victim was shot in the throat. Theres no word on the motive behind this shooting. And a septa Police Officer did suffer some minor injuries in this crash on independence mall. Eyewitness news at fifth and market just after 3 oclock this morning. Investigators say the Police Cruiser was blind sided by a white suv while responding to a call. A woman driving the suv was arrested. Meantime investigators say she appeared to be intoxicated. Authorities in new york, they say a couple arrested in the kidnapping of 2 00 a. M. Mish sisters may have also planned to abduct other children as well. Steven how wells jr. And nicole vase are charged with two counts of first degree kidnapping. They abducted the seven and 12yearold girls from their roadside stand and that their motive was to victimize the girls. The fact that the girls were strong, they were able to verbalize to the investigators some different facts about their name captivity and with those details it was instrumental in us being able to make the arrests. The girls did show up unharmed at a home about 15 miles or so from where they were taken. Both suspects are being held without bail. Authorities say additional charges may be filed in this case. And now to the crisis in iraq. Reports have emerged of the massacre of some 80 men of the yazidi religious the attacks were being carried out by iraqs air force or the u. S. And the no dog gets left behind organization is expanding its reach trying to help veterans in need. A big fundraiser was held at north penn vpw post 676 in glenside today. Volunteers have been working to reunite military members with dogs that they bonded with while deployed in iraq and afghanistan. Now the organization is working to bring dogs over to help a veteran suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. It helps the soldiers deal with anxiety and the stresses of being home after being in a war zone. The dogs are service dogs, they help them when theyre out and their high levels of stress come up. The initiative is called save a dog, save a veteran. It costs 13,000 to connect a dog with a veteran. And philadelphia is cheering on the taney dragons in the Little League world series. The team is resting up for its big game tomorrow after beating nashville four to nothing in williamsport yesterday. Crews battling a raging fire in Southern California for several hours. This was the scene at a Restaurant Supply building in north hollywood. Power lines around that building pose add challenge for firefighters as they had to avoid touching them with their metal ladders. One firefighter was injured. The cause of this blaze is still under investigation. And Texas Governor rick perry calls his indictment on abuse of power charges outrageous and politically motivated. Perry addressed the felony charges during a press conference this afternoon. A grand jury indicted the governor yesterday. Hes accused of trying to pressure the District Attorney of Travis County to stepdown by threatening to cut off state financing to her office. It is outrageous that some would use partisan political theatrics to rip away at the very fabric of our states constitution. This indictment amounts to nothing more than abuse of power. Perry is the first Texas Governor in nearly 100 years to face criminal charges. It also represents a major roadblock to his president ial ambition. And pope francis continues his visit to south korea. This afternoon he traveled to a Hill Top Community for the sick and disabled. The pontiff was greeted by thousands of people and his motorcade stopped several times along the way as he blessed small children. While the pope has been received very warmly by huge crowds wherever he goes, one group of evangelical christians marched in sole to protest its visits. Still at 80 degrees in the sunshine in philadelphia, little bit cooler upper 70s across south jersey and the shore points, mount pocono at 68 degrees. Again humidity levels very low for this time of the year. Somewhat of a cool day today. The temperature only 80, thats below average. Were warming it up a bit compared to 24 hours ago, about 1 degree in dover and 7 degrees in parts of south jersey and the Lehigh Valley so thats a sign of a warmer air mass building in for the rest of the weekend. Still minus the humidity, look at that dewpoint temperature, tells us how much moisture is in the area. Right now were at 52 degrees, so feels comfortable. Tomorrow in the mid50s so thats another pleasant day so get outside if you can and enjoy it. Cloud free skies at the moment. Some high clouds move in from the north through the overnight. Theres a little weak cold front coming through the great lakes. Notice showers with it. A lost those will break out. We still cant rule out a scattered shower in the mostly cloudy notice into early sunday morning. Then well watch this area of storminess across the midwest. Thats going to slowly track to our south monday into tuesday depending how far north it gets will determine if we see rain from that system but for tomorrow, again, mainly dry, partly sunny skies, mid 80s, low humidity. That front kind of just dies out. Not a lot of moisture with it. Theres that next storm system to our south. Monday were dry. Its tuesday were going to much what. If it tracks a little farther north it could bring showers in here especially from philadelphia on south and east. If it stays farther south thin looks like we escape the day dry on tuesday. Just a few clouds around overnight, could be that shower or two especially in the poconos. Same deal tomorrow afternoon. Not a lot of coverage with these showers. Monday looks great. Mostly sunny skies and again tuesday depending on that storm system will determine how much clouds with see and the chance for some showers. Before we got the run she came out of a nine pitch inning, in base runners and i think that got us fired up that we were in this game.
