And that can permanently sling the amount of money you will receive over your lifetime by as much as, get this, 25 . And not only can it hurt you, it can also affect a nonworking spouses planning to claim based on your record. Now, conversely, although the system does punish you for claiming early it, rewards you for your patience. When you wait to file, youre entitled to something called a delayed retirement credit. That can total up to 8 a year in additional benefit. You max out at age 70. Well, jill, the number one question folks ask me as they are headed into retirement, does Social Security penalize Older Americans when they work in retirement . This is really important. We know a lot of people want to work because they want extra money, but they also want to keep active, right . So if you claim benefits early, and you wish to continue working, you are subject to something called the annual earnings tax, so for people who reach full retirement age after 2016, thats 15,720 bucks. What happens . Social security withholds a dollar in benefits for every 2 you earn above the threshold. Until you reach what is your full retirement age. Now, the ratio changes from one to three, during the year you reach full retirement age. Now, here is the key. If you wait until youre full retirement age, you can collect your whole retirement benefit, even if you continue to work. It is also important to note that any benefits that were withheld while you continued to work, theyre not lost. Once you get to that retirement age, your monthly benefit will be increased permanently to account for the month in which benefit were withheld. Now, here is the deal. When you think about everything, try to wait until your full retirement age, and dont worry about a lot more information on jill on money. High pressure in place, anchoring itself overhead for few more days, eventually cold front will move in far from the west, and it will eventually nudge this out of the way, but, even then looks like it will be weakening frontal boundary. So allowing for shower or thunderstorm on friday specifically. The bigger story with the approach of the front is that it turns steamier, and certainly, hotter, the hottest day of the pack at 92. Dont worry if you only get a phonecall every couple of days, if theyre busy, thats a good sign, and they will be busy. We have plans and activities for the next four days for freshmen only. So that they can really settle in and we have an activity going every hour, educational, fun, meals, programs, Residence Hall programs, enough to keep anyone busy. And thats the idea, be busy, make friends, settle in, get ready, and then when the upper class come, the freshmen are already quite comfortable here. Right. It is a learning process for everyone. It is, it is. Thank you, really appreciate t so it starts today with the freshmen, upper classmen, later on, then School Starts next week. So a loft fun ahead. Brooke, jim, back into you.
