We will look the a the area winter storm a alerts and every county in the pinkies a winter storm warning. It is the northwest half of the Delaware Valley, Winter Weather advisories extend go into the purple. Beautiful colors but it sure means we have a mess on the way, now just because you dont have any shaded counties through new jersey or at least southern new jersey and delaware doesnt mean you will in the get in on this storm. Already the rain is moving in and it will be, primarily, a rain making storm for those southern communities. But once that mixing and change overtakes place that is pretty much it. If you see it turn over to snow that is what you are dealt with for the rest of the day here. So, that is why we expect to see some pretty impressive totals out of this even despite the relatively warm ground and despite the fact that it is starting with rain and it is still, not enclose to freezing, in philadelphia 47 is the current temperature. Lower totals farther south and east in philadelphia itself a slushy 2 inches or so give or take depending on your location. Once we get past to daze we are looking at some smooth sailing, basically. Right around 40 degrees for both black friday and thanksgiving itself, turkey guy, meanwhile we will get in the weekend and things will maryland rate up on the thermometer and then it looks like our next shot for wet weather wouldnt come until monday. There will be a break but we have to deal with a big old headache here in advance of that break. We are heading to i95 north and out to the airport, and the traffic is starting to pick up, as you might expect on a normal wednesday youll find that and certainly on a day like today when everybody gotten the word, good idea to get out as fast as you can. We are heading over to the airport. I have been checking airport delays. I know jan carabao is inside looking at a long line through security. We are also not experiencing any delays at this point and i think it is because a lot of these planes are coming in here, all of the airports know this is going to be a troublesome travel day as we get off the airports, exits. And they are stepping on it. Some of these planes are coming in early and ones that are supposed to board and leave at a certain time they are doing that new. Everything is on schedule when that rain that we are fining at this point. I think as day goes on we will continue to watch for these delays to start to build up. People are waiting obviously for a couple planes coming in. This is where they sit. We will be finding a day of a lot of heavy travel out there, and we can be expecting increasing delays, at this point, it is wet but it is okay. Lets check on the roads right now i95 looks okay just wet outside there vittoria. That is what we are seeing from the birds eye view on our camera is it is just wet, definitely not awful, but we are seeing a touch of rush hour building in a few areas. The lets start first with the ben franklin bridge. Traveling in towards pennsylvania using westbound side of the ben, not awful but notice the reflection being pick up, on the slick spots on the bridgette self. A a lot of our bridges are looking like this our majors are looking like this but again, rush hour we are not seeing the full swing just yet. Moving to the schuylkill expressway east or westbound still in the clear and in the only around the area of center city but throughout western suburbs. I would not be surprised however if you are traveling on the schuylkill westbound and started to slow down around gladwynn. Also watch out for delays southbound on i95 that is one area where we are seeing rush hour, minor delays at the airport, nothing major for mass transit, ukee. Right now though your temperatures are just too marginal. We are too warm at this point in philadelphia and pretty much every where else. Say for mount pocono that is one spot where we are seeing those temperatures fall just enough where we probably start to see, some mixing taking place here over the next half an hour or so. Heres your storm time line from now, until really at this point now, storm is here so we are continuing to see that moisture moving in but mixing will begin for us over a couple of hours that are coming up here as we ares on the cw philly. You can switch over stations here at 7 00 a. M. And track things there too but heavier snow looks like it will be falling around midday. That is when the moisture done tenth will be at greatest, also when thumping snow will be pounding down messing with your travel and things just go downhill at that point. Region ride we are talking about temperatures continuing their klee decline. Everybody sees that rain change over to snow. It is just a matter of where you are and when that happens as to how much snow we will even up with. We will have detailed snow fall map for you just a little bit later in the broadcast, vittoria. We are just experiencing rush hour delays so far but that will definitely change. Take a look traveling on i95 southbound would be the taillights moving away. Traveling southbound we are seeing a slight slow down a approaching the area have of cottman and maneuver your way through Construction Zone but gets heavier making your way approaching allegheny down through to girard avenue. Again, it is just rush hour traffic so far but it is slick. Take a lot a the schuylkill expressway right around 476, that is ramp if you are heading eastbound but westbound we are definitely starting to see volume stack up in your western suburbs. Because of that Speed Sensors are dropping down in the 20s, 27 is your average on the cue kill. Traveling on i95 we are at four. We have an accident situation on new jersey, thinks at levet parkway ativan sci ver parkway. Minor delays. No major problems for mass transit, ukee. So before you head out to get where you are going, you just might want to take into account penndots plan of action. We are out here in the penndot yard and their preparations got underway last night, and into this morning. So in montgomery, chester and bucks counties looking at crews out from midnight this morning with trucks in philadelphia and delaware counties which will be in full force by this morning. So just a couple of hours here. As katie is mentioning heavier snowfall is expected to happen in the afternoon. That is when most of the trucks will be on the road. In all penndot has access to 444 vehicles, ready to take on this winter storm event and while the rain and the two warm days we have had are certainly going to help, penndot is urging motorist to take precaution. Once the cold air reaches in it will be basically just changing all this rain over to heavy, wet, slushy snow, the kind that is great for snowballs and snow men but not so good trying to travel through it, any kind of snow isnt very ideal obviously but with that said our exclusive snowfall map a little sliver of two to 4 inches basically right through Philadelphia County but we only have to go one or two count ace way to find a half foot. It will probably be more than that, up through pocono region. If you plan to travel i80 for example that is where there will be a lot of plus rolling on through. We got to get through today, by tomorrow or late tonight, storm is long gone. Leaves behind a big old mess but we will have dryer weather to track here thursday, friday, and then leading in the upcoming weekend. We can expect to see those temperatures on the uphill climb but quiet weather will continue. Every quilt is meant for a child in distress a after a natural disaster, after a fire or in a hospital. So i was the mom in the hospital with the sick child. Reporter founder linda knows what it is like, her daughter molly was hospitalized twice with life threatening illnesses and everything carrying germs had to be taken away. The first thing they took away from her that she wanted more than anything was her bear. Reporter years later, linda, an interior designer, realized fabric that would otherwise head to the landfill could be repurposessed as washing and comfortable quilts. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of fabric are purchased at a discount or donated every year. They are yummy, fun it is a sorbet, colors are incredible. Reporter some of them are made rate here. This one im to go day has race car fabric. Others are cut, arranged and pack into quilt kits to send to volunteer quilters all across the country. They cannot necessarily have their black it from home or they are toys, but these quilts comfort them. Reporter their goal, at least 30,000 quilts a year, she calls her quilters perfect heroes.
