Tonights meteor shower persaid meteor showers happening every year august 12th. This event is what you can see anywhere you have a dark, clear, sky and you dont need a telescope for this you can see this without any help. It is a great family sort of experience to have. Reporter you mentioned the weather. That does play a big roll. You need a clear sky. No cloud. You have to have clear skies. The other thing is that the moon can play a role too. That is beneficial and detriment. It is first quarter. Great to look at but that means there is extra light in the sky at night. That makes it challenging to see meteors. You can start your viewing when the sky gets dark. Best between midnight and sunrise tomorrow morning but if you cant do that, dont worry just go outside when you can after sunset and see how many you can see. Reporter is there a certain direction we should be looking at for best view. Meteors seem to becoming from the northeastern portion of the sky but they will be seen all over the sky. Your looking for bright streaks of light, falling stars or shooting stars but they dont do either but youll see bright streaks of light. If you are lucky you will see one that brightens up the sky. This is all happening 40 miles up in the earths atmosphere. There his no danger there. No need to worry. They are about the size of sand grains, they are very small but they travel at a high rate of speed, about 45,000 miles an hour and that is why you see this bright streak as they heat upcoming through the earths atmosphere.
