Reporter hi guys good evening and they are not here just yet in, fact the stage is set for them to come down here , first i have to tell you that traffic across center city is a mess right now. Heres the reason why. There are Philadelphia Police officers stationed at virtual ly every intersection starting a at broad and arch and then taken it down the line. You can see flashing Police Lights in the distance. That is the very front of the black lives matter demonstration. There are, quite a few officers down here, awaiting their presence here, just outside of Philadelphia City hall, but coming north and south, because of this mess on broad street it is a very sizable demonstration, traffic is, really having a hard time, going both north and south and then it is tied up here, on arch street as well. Of course, vine street expressway. We were inside the demonstration just about an hour ago, and they are, of course, as you know, marching to protest Excessive Force by police. They have signs, according to high profile case is a cross the country where they a alleged police use of Excessive Force, and in some instances, unarmed black men. March was peaceful and included about 200 people of all races. It started about an hour behind schedule at broad and has slowly since been tracking down broad street, towards city hall. Demonstration unfolded under the watchful eye of dozens of Philadelphia Police officers. We have some of the demonstrators why they thought it was important to participate, in the march. We want justice. We want freedom. We want Police Brutality to stop. We want murders to stop, in our own community. You need unity. We need unity to come together to make sure that we are getting right and justice for all people, the school district, everything, you know , there is so much going on within the schools, our children are not getting adequate he had case. Reporter so back live here we are looking live at police, just a few moments from right now going to shut down intersection here at broad and arch, as the black lives matter, demonstration moves, through center city. We have tactical air overhead, flying above to give Police Obviously a birds eye view of exactly what is going on, down here on the ground, but right now from my Vantage Point it looks like traffic is, just shut down, just as far north as Chestnut Street possibly at vine where the police line is right now, of course, moving just ahead, just a few steps ahead of those black lives matter demonstrators and there is tactical ones above. That is very latest live from city hall, joe holden for cbs3 Eyewitness News. Joe, thank you for. That lbgt supporters formed a wall around a Health Center to block out anti gay protest by the west boro Baptist Church. Unaudible. Dozens of people, gathered outside, the Zoning Center at eighth and locust to shield patients and employees from Westboro Baptist church protesters. Counter protesters played music, they sang to block out demonstrators across the street. Westboro Baptist Church is classified as a hate group. Republican nominee donald trump criticized the democrats for not talking specifically about isis, here at the dnc. He and his running mate mike pence spoke to the annual convention of the veteran of foreign wars in charlotte, North Carolina and trump blamed president obama and hillary client or for the rise of ice is. You didnt hear it. They didnt want to talk about it. Because in a very true way, they really established isis because of weakness, the people in this room know better than anybody else or any other audience what i mean by weakness. Trump also said that politicians have quote totally failed veterans. When trump mentioned clintons name the crowd shouted lock her up. We are definitely showing our true colors, how region is coming together to protect police and Fire Fighters, dealing with the extreme heat during the dnc. Plus this. Talk about a heart stopping situation, what caused this explosion and fireball, that is coming up next, kate. And nicole you mentioned the heat today was 13th day this month, in the 90s and stretch of 90s continues, so is this the longest stretch we have had . Ill tell but our longest heat wave and when storms, and some cooler weather returns to the region, that is coming welcome back are one. You are looking live at Convention Floor at the wells fargo certainty. We will look ahead at what you can expect on day two here at dnc. One of the biggest speakers tonight on this floor behind us will be former president , bill clinton. To help us get a break down what to expect and how things will go, thinks the deputy communication director of the Clinton Campaign. Thanks for being with us. Absolutely, pleasure to be here. Well, tonight, so many speakers including president clinton. One of the challenges for you guys is so many people have known secretary clinton for decades and they have made up their mind about her. How do you then go past that and help them, officially, get to know her all over. Thinks a special night, this is a night where we will do. That i have always showed pride but so many people especially young people, do not know a lot about her besides that she was first lady, secretary of state. Tonight is the night we will talk about the fight of her life. This is a woman who has been. She worked, and what we will see it in, in addition to her husband who will be talking about all of the years together and the change maker that she has been for other people. We will hear what real people get up there and talk about the work that she has done and difference that they have made for them. Talk about her husband a lot of people in this hall and around the nation are waiting for the former president to take the mike. Last night was an incredible night here, such a good fink beginning for us, first lady, Michelle Obama really brought town the house. People in 2008 called her the closer for her husband. And, you saw her be the closer for Hillary Clinton. We are also going to look so forward to president clinton. He will get up there he had has written his own speech. We have not seen it. That true, he has written his own speech. Yes. Yes. He is, it is a speech we have not seen. It is fun for us to see as well. It will be a great night. He is going to talk about her. They have known each other a lifetime. He will talk about the fight for her life. This woman has been fighting for children and families her entire career. Do you think this is a moment, as you guys say, through the days where you can start to bring in the Bernie Sanders supporters who are really hanging on tight to Bernie Sanders. We really understand that. Hillary really respects that. This is the something that she can understand n2008, it was her supporters who were at Convention Hall when she was making her speech and there were a lot of tears out there too. She understands that. She sees that the people worked hard for them but we are continuing to work really hard to bring people together and i think senator sanders really did a great job last night endorsing her. Thank you so much for being here. We appreciate it. All right. That will do it for right now. Lets send you back to the studios and check with Nicole Brewer for the rest of todays news, nicole. Thank you. Residents in california are returning to their homes after they were forced to east vac wait because of wild fires. Officials, wrote in the 20,000 resident permission to return home, even though Fire Fighters are still looking to put out the blaze. Now so far the fire has destroyed, 18 homes, two neighborhoods, although remain under a threat. Well, this must see video check this out, lightening strikes the Empire State Building during yesterdays storms and, of course, it was all caught on camera. That is what happens these days. Of course, it happened more than you think, lightening that is. Empire state building is apparently hit by lightening an average of 23 times a year but it is rare for someone to have their cameras rolling at just the right moment. And, in the scene in chicago on sunday video captured lightening hitting a telephone pole, splitting it, into pieces. No reports of injuries but wow when you see that video it is amazing to think people have been struck by lightening and survived. That obliterated that. Luckily today we are dealing with a hot situation but much better than yesterday yesterday we had heat and humidity ape we had those nasty storms that rolled through with flash flooding and frequent lightening. Good news is today we have cleared the storms out of here , it is still hot but definitely a more manageable kind of heat, kind of heat that were more than used to this month after 13 days in the 90s. Lets take a look outside and down the shore one spot to beat the heat, it is hazy, few more cloud down the shore but a lot of people outside on the beach enjoying this day and as tide comes in ocean city and nice week to be down the shore they have escaped the worst of the storms yesterday, we had a few near atlantic city, southern shore points didnt get too much, a few showers late last night and today is much better day down the shore in the city with temperatures on the cooler side. And it is hot, pretty much every where. 88 degrees as we check with kutztown in the kutztown area middle school. Beautiful cloud formation to look at on that camera on our neighborhood network. Storm scan three is showing everything is quiet outside right now. Any shower or thunderstorms are missing us off to the south. We have a few patchy clouds here and there the pattern over the next few days will feature a few disturbances that will move by to our south you can see showers and storms missing us around norfolk area , tomorrow showers and thunderstorms may get closer possibly men portions of delaware and then thursday, it brings us a renewed chance for afternoon thunderstorms here in philadelphia, and down the shore. Temperatures right now, in the 90s, once again. 91 degrees in philadelphia. Ninetyone in reading. Eightynine in wilmington. Eightynine in allentown. So some spots may actually break the heat wave today. We have a few spots. Not us here in philadelphia of course, our heat wave keeps going but we are on the border around 90degree mark right now. Current dew point is 66. This time yesterday the dew point was at 75. It is better. Still in the steamy range but definitely feeling better this afternoon. And lets talk about our heat wave so far. Thinks the fourth one. It is the longest one. It has been going since friday , july between the second, that makes it days. Others were shorter. We had a four day stretch back on july 14th through 18th but this is by no stretch of the imagination or longest heat wave, and the longest was in 1995, 17 days straight, in the 90s, a and 13 days back in 53 and 12 days in 1999. So, could be worse, overnight partly cloudy and warm, 75 degrees. Tomorrow partly sunny still hot. Not all that humid. Youre witness weather three day forecast, the heat wave continues until thursday. That would make it a seven day heat wave, and then friday, were looking at showers and storms, some with post tension ally heavy rainfall and back to the 80s, that is good news, trade off, we will get a a few more showers and thunderstorms but heat wave finally breaks. I think at this point we will take the storm. Yes, we will. All right, kate, thank you. The message at the dnc is clear. We are always, stronger together. Reporter after passionate speeches, supporting Hillary Clinton from Party Leaders including senator Bernie Sanders on day one. Hillary clinton must become the next president of the United States. Reporter on day two the vermont senator spent the morning talking to delegates and trying to persuade those on the fence supporters to back the parties nominee. It is easy to boo but it is harder to look your kid in the face who would be living under a donald trump presidency. Reporter that message seems ton working. However we win when we stand together. We will win. And we will be supporting the former secretary of state. I will be voting for hillary, and i will be pushing the political revolution. Reporter even if some are still feeling a little heartburn. How do you get over pushing for something so hard, believing it so strongly, and then changing views. Reporter inside, even pledged bernie delegates seemed to see writing on the wall, saying that the alternative is not an option. It is really scary to think about trump in the oval office reporter but outside at fdr park, fans say they are not backing down. Not me, i mean im stuck with his platform, his integrity, his never wavering. Reporter back here live, guys i can tell you Bernie Sanders is sitting up in the vip section watching this all unfold right now as california cast their votes, some for Bernie Sanders, of course, some for Hillary Clinton. The once again Hillary Clinton expected to finish this nominating process in a few minutes. I should also mention i did speak with many of the bernie supporters who tell me is there still a few months from november, of course, when the nation votes and they say by then they are expecting 90 percent of the bernie, true bernie supporters to them, turn the tide and vote for Hillary Clinton. Ill tell you something, there were tears, did you see it last night, there were people crying, i didnt know if there was a funeral going honor people grieving that the guy wasnt sticking around. Bernie sanders supporters are in this to the long hall. To this extent they booed him when he said im behind Hillary Clinton. They feel like they were part of the something bigger, bigger then even him if necessary. At this moment in this hall there is a big sales pitch to be made by Hillary Clinton. Okay. The that is Perfect Point thaw make for the next question, which is this, if there are independents at home, of bernie voter perhaps even a republican who is the not sold on donald trump. There air lot of those too. Is there anything that can be said over next three days to get their vote. One thing that i believe this convention should focus on in my opinion that has not come up yet is the real on toes goodness threat of terrorism, globally and come particularly. It hasnt come up . Will it . Isis, terrorism. It ace real concern and threat to Many Americans f that is addressed here and it appears that they are serious, perhaps maybe mrs. Clinton can leverage that secretary of state, a few days to convince some folks but at this moment it seems like camps are galvanized. Chris, thanks very much for being with us. We will see you soon. You bet. Well, ukee, for all of the people outside, it hasnt exactly been the most comfortable, few days. Isnt that the truth . But this weeks story of brotherly love a local group is making sure that our most brave, and our finest are being well taken care of. Here you go. It is an act of very cool, kindness, in liquid form. Reporter the donations of time, supplies, keep pouring in. Volunteers have been working 12 to 14 hours a day, and have handed out more than 6,000 bottles of water and gator aid , which is still a few more days to go. It will get better and betterment the as we head toward friday and weekend we will have renewed threat for thunderstorms each day. Lets look at how that is shaping up. We will start off right now where it is a beautiful evening, and bethlehem, blue skies, a few patchy clouds, and great day to maybe go outside and then take a walk, finally, temperatures are still in the 90s. We are still seeing dangerous heat outside but we are not under any excessive watches or warnings or advisory. Humidity has dropped enough that this is kind of heat we can deal w if you have been sitting inside in the air conditioning for the past few days and want to get outdoors, tonight is the the night, to do so. Lets take a peak at our weather watchers and see what they have had to say for us. We will check on temperatures first and foremost. Mostly hovering around 90 degree mark. The we are at 90 Degrees North of the city here as we check with steve schwartz, he is in bensalem, steve says some what comfortable day, and not as bad as yesterday, that is pretty much the comparatively speaking, today is a beauty. Ninetyone in margots house in, buena vista township. She has sunshine. She says another beautiful summer day. Hot and sunny with intermittent hate. It is hazy down the shore and south jersey but all and all things are looking pretty. I want to show you photo from yesterday. This is a cool picture. You have to take a close look ate. From tan, in reading. Thinks a double rainbow. If you look closely you can see is there actually some lightening, in the middle of the two rainbows. Do you see this flash of lightening during the storms yesterday. As the storms were winding down. Double rainbow sets up with lightening in the background. I cannot the say i have seen that very often a rainbow with light evening in the same photo. I wanted to share that with you. I thought it was cool. Storm scan three looking clear for us. There are some showers and thunderstorms, showers and thunderstorms i should say popping up off to the south and west, and we will be watching a few, weak disturbances shortwaves start to move through over the next several days. And the first event, this would be missing us to the south, tomorrow we could see some showers and storms try to pop up in delaware and then by thursday and friday, that is when the showers and storms get closer to philadelphia. Lets talk about our 90degree days. Thinks the 13th, 90 plus degree day this month, this season so far, 21, the average season, average year in philadelphia has 23, 90degree days, were already at 21, and if we hit to the next three days, we will tie the average for a season by thursday. Last year we had 37, 90degree days. If that sound like a lot, let me take you back in our time machine to 2010, 55 days, above 90 degrees, and 2011 and 2012 were no picnic. We had quieters year, 2013 and 14, before we headed back to the 30s last year. We are on target to haed in the 30s for this year as well and it still remains to be seen how august will fair for us.
