We will show you the shot of the 42 freeway. We are seeing wet road and rain traveling on the 42 freeway as well. This is 42 around creek road. Notice traveling in either direction we will in the see too much problem. Not even volume at this time. I think that the rush hour may be even lighter then usual as a result of School Closings and folks just take it easy. But no delays in either direction on 42. Rest of the new jersey majors moving well. Are in is town high speed line all local stops every 15 minutes. We have good news there. It is freezing. We could use that. Good news is penndot crews are out and about and there are more than 400 trucks on the road throughout this region, this six county region here in pennsylvania. We have crews out there. They will be using salt now that the snow is starting to fall. They didnt pretreat roads with that brine or salt and that would have been washed away. But they have used 149,000 tons of salt, this winter alone and that is second only to last winter. Of course, we are in the middle of it so that total will be growing. Heres what else is going on from north philadelphia, two car collision at an intersection send an suv smashing into a bank. That is where we sent Eyewitness News reporter justin finch for more, justin good morning. Reporter good morning. As you cane they are about to pull out the car that crashed into this bank this morning a white cadillac escalade, it was wedged in there since 2 00 this morning when Authorities Say it struck a Dodge Charger and korean right into the united bank of philadelphia a here this morning. Just have after 2 00 oclock. You can see looking live at their efforts to pull this truck out of here, it has caused damage to the ceiling. It wedged the atm well inside. Of course, front end of the bank is completely gone front windows and door are blown out. L and i was here earlier taking a look at damage and making hure that the building is still safe to stand this morning. That still seems to be the case. There were three people inside that escalade that police say got away from the scene almost right after that accident. They were not the treated at the hospital. There is a person in that Dodge Charger that person also refused treatment this morning. So, no injuries to report. Still a mystery as we figure out why this escalade crash in the bank and why occupant inside left the scene the way they did. Obviously charges are coming once they fine these guys involve and back out here live we have things to help them figure out, there are surveillance cameras in the area within right here at the corn are of jefferson and broad that might give them insight as to what happened here this morning. We are live from north philadelphia im justin finch for cbs3 Eyewitness News. The big story this morning we are keeping an eye on the storm. The cbs3 mobil weather lobbies on the road in lansdale, Montgomery County, we will check with Carol Erickson to see what the conditions are, and what is shaping up to be a messy morning commute. Vittoria has an eye on the road so you know what areas to avoid if you have to go out this morning. The in mostly wet but we see wet snow it looks like coming down. If you cannot stay home today, it is a good idea to do so. We are looking for time, location and conditions, it is still raining in collinswood as of 4 50 about 20 minutes ago. We need your eyes as well. Good morning family. Traffic and weather together on the threes when we come back. Good morning everyone, we are looking live at the snow falling in Montgomery County as snow emergency goes into effect in philadelphia, at 6 00 this morning and we are under a winter storm warning until 7 00 oclock tonight. Oh yeah roads are starting to get covered. Katie will update snow fall forecast in a little bit. Expect delays and cancellations at Philadelphia International airport. More than 400 flights in and out of philly international are already canceled today. If you are scheduled to fly out of town, check your flight status before heading out the door erika. If you dont have have to leave today, take a work from home day kid staying home with you, just do so if you can. Everybody will get hit with the snow. This is a cold front dropping through but there is a large area of high pressure. That is why it is so moisture rich and we have so much that will be falling from the sky as a result but looking here what i think youll see right here today is these off and a on pulses of steady heavier snow followed up by an easing up. So on storm scan you can see well define split taking place but notice do you see this a little lull that took place in the last her or so as it goes through quickly though but that i think is the story here today. You will see pulles of steady heavier moisture. This thing is far from done with foulke. We have it strung all the way back, from texas. Looking to future weather what you will fine over the course of the next couple of hours is a, everybody end up with snow. B, it is prolonged because we will be stuck with it flat pattern here setting up shop over our area we are essentially in the sweet spot for snowfall here in philadelphia a and just to the south east of i95 is where you will end up with the best totals here, in our area which we will get to. Meanwhile later tonight five or 6 00, it is ending in philadelphia. It will happen soon are far are north and west you travel. By 8 00 p. M. It is gone. Skies will clear. Temperatures will bottom out. Heading in to friday skies are clear, cold, but we are expecting a nice prolonged break here in the delaware valley. So heres how it shakes out. Here is your four to 8inch swab from lets call it upper bucks, western montgomery counties maybe a sliver is only in the two to four range. But from that south into Cape May County were four to eight with the heavier range falling south east of i95 just beyond the highway and off toward say North Western portions of Cape May County. These temperatures, this is where we will stay at 9 00 a. M. Those temperatures will continue to decline, with time. Later tonight we will bottom out to 8 degrees. That would be a new record as long as we hit it. Quiet weather will resume tomorrow but my friend we will have some clean up to do. Lets check how it is looking right new with meet the role goodies Carol Erickson. The shes live from the mobile weather lab. The right new carol you are in Montgomery County, right. Reporter we are in hatfield and we have watched weather deteriorate and change over to that wintry form. We came up and it is moving south to meet us. As you can take a look outside at this point. Were on broad street or pennsylvania route 463 in hatfield and snow is here and snow is now covering the road. In many spots where cars have not moved all night they have a layer of snow over them. Conditions are doing exactly what we unfortunately knew was going to be happening and that is changing over from the rain to the snow. We are seeing fairly large flakes here. Temperature on the mobile weather lobbies 31 degrees and we are seeing flurries through philadelphia according to the observations and temperatures right by freezing mark with pottstown with snow, 32. Lancaster 33. Coatsville 34. The temperatures are coming down for that he is highs in the upper 30s and that is why we saw rain now you changing down to the freezing line and we are starting to see this freezing line and snow line move closer and closer farther and farther south. You dont have have to go to the north any longer as we were to find snow we are finding it absolutely out here now and it is starting to cover the road. More to come but it is large sun angle will take care of some of this and then the california will day will take care of the rest of it. We will continue to follow. That vittoria how are road elsewhere. Im glad you are traveling in Montgomery County because we did see not only in the hatfield area but traveling around Fort Washington closer to philadelphia, so we were taking a look earlier in the Traffic Center 309 at pennsylvania turnpike we were seeing those flurries happen. We are starting to feel the change grow closer and closer toward the philadelphia area. The delaware valley, it definitely is in for it this morning. We are moving new to 476, blue route, right around route one. I will direct your attention back there. Those are salt trucks. Theyre pretreating the road and treating them, within more time for that another round of snow. Traveling out and about at 476 at route one the right lane compromised as a result the of the salt trucks here but notice headlights indicating the snow is falling. The elsewhere we will go to i95 where here is the snow. This is i95 around philadelphia a international airport. Some of that rain has helped the red not accumulate that snow but it will accumulate slush for right now and with more snow we have we will start to stick on the ground eventually. Plan accordingly for your morning rush hour commute. Looking at our Speed Sensors we are indicating some yellow road out there. Folks are taking it easy. Definitely good idea to make sure you are using mass transit thaw are doublechecking septas web site. Tons of buses on detour there, erika. Vittoria, thank you. We are keeping an eye on the storm looking live right new we will check with penndot the for an update on the road coming up next. Just a reminder for parents and kid out there philadelphia public and arch die see an schools are closed, hit snooze pull these covers backup and get back to sleep if you can. Jamie says they are still waiting on the snow in west department for, new jersey. The shes enjoying her stake eggs and coffee. We need to go to jamies place. That is quite the breakfast. We will see you in a bit. We thought our cable internet was fast. But, our uploads are half the speed of our downloads so our internet is really halffast. So halffast. Charlie metzger from penndot joins us to talk about what they are doing to stay ahead of the storm. Charlie is with us. Good morning. Good morning. Could you break down the process as of last night how you prepared and also what the the game plan is right now as conditions slowly start to deteriorate. Since the beginning of this storm monday we have had different phases. Monday was an ice storm. It was more spreading event. Yesterday was rain so that prevented us from pretreating road with the salt brine application but we have our crews out loaded with salt, plows on as change over is starting to begin. We will go out and put material down in advance of the accumulating snow that we expect over the next several hours. Crews will be able to start plug and we speculator rush hour this morning just because people are taking off from school, schools closings so we will be able to stay out in front. Any areas or roadways you have your eye on thaw are expecting perhaps more severe snow or anything you are watching this morning. Weather was so warm, and we were washing away warm temperatures and heavy rain we are experiencing yesterday. It is pretty clear, we are starting to see snowfall, sticking on secondary roads but crews are way out in advance. We have plenty of material to put down. We will stay out as long as the storm takes. All of the best to you and your crews we appreciate it. Thanks, charlie from penndot, dell dot and they are making it safe for all of to us get around. Still ahead katie updating your forecast. We will check traffic and weather together, we the flakes have begun at fourth and market. It seems to be hitting center city. It is basically that rain snow line was was right over philadelphia county. The whole county was split in two with snow to the north and rain off to the south but you that has been since taken over by just snow as temperatures continue their decline. That purple is overlooking the majority of storm scan three right now. You can see rain starting to get nudged out as colder air just funnels in. So to the sky observations from eyewitness weather watchers we have light and maryland rate snow falling from keith in saylosserberg and mike in downingtown. Chad worth a light rain falling. In woodbine it looks like clouds for now. That is what we have found. A couple lulls along the way but this is still an an all day event. If you see things wind down they are in the done but just taking a break. 36 degrees at philly international. Thirtyeight ac. Do you see how we are split with that rain snow line. This is still expectation even though we are not completely into the the snow every where yet, it looks like brunt, heavier sweet spot will pick up here through southern tear have of our area vittoria. Good morning everyone. The right now we are seeing wet road. We are not seeing so much accumulate on the highways and byways. This is vine street expressway or actually schuylkill at vine street expressway. Traveling to and from 76, i95, just really maneuvering around center city right now, it is still nice outside. You will notice road are slick, damp and wet. The as we continue we will take you in toward western suburbs because if you are traveling on 422, we are seeing some of that snow stick. You will notice it sticking toward embankment and very snowy shot as headlights are picking up that precipitation. We are not dealing with volume right new just that precipitation and slick spots on the roadway. Traveling betsy or Commodore Barry we have 35 miles april hour Speed Sensors a by by that. Traveling mass transit, new Jersey Transit is cross honoring we have good news and tons of septa buses on detour. Doublecheck web site and calling to the airport as well ukee. Coming up incomes on Eyewitness News this morning we are continuing to keep an eye on the storm jan . Reporter snowing steadily here in doylestown, bucks county this morning that rain change to snow around 4 00 oclock and what a different 90 minutes makes. Road are deteriorating quickly. Ill have a live report coming up justin. Jen, a broad street bank is closed this morning but in the for snow. We will tell but a crash that caused all this overnight. Justin thanks. Vittoria and katie return with traffic and weather together on the threes including how much snow to expect by the time we are finished with this storm. This storm is sticking around for a while. We are back in two we have an eye on the storm, rain switches over to snow in bucks county, look at it in the right part of the screen, timing of the storm is just terrible it will make your morning commute a headache but sticking around the better part of the day too. This could shape up to be largest snowfall we have seen so far this winter. We have hundreds of School Closings and delays, including philadelphia public and archdiocesean schools. We have a team of reports cross the region showing you what it is like if you are getting ready to head out. We will check in a bit.
