As you mentioned two people of interest now being questioned by police in connection, to this case. I want to take you to video from yesterday, police, collecting evidence, they are in full protective gear going inside and presumably taking out several pieces of evidence, the elderly couple, 66 yearold el gladys and roofus per write found dead in their home in the 2500 block of spangler street. The couples 39 yearold daughter found them dead in the living room in the Early Morning hours, of thursday. At the time, were you there nicole, there were no signs of trauma, forced entry, Carbon Monoxide and as the case progressed it seemed that in the initial investigation at least there were no signs of foul play that being investigated but nature of the investigation has changed and as you mentioned sources telling cbs3 homicide detectives are now involved. Again there are two people in for questioning, at this time, people of interest. They have in the been arrested n fact, in arrests have been made at this time in the case, but again, homicide detectives are working this and so we will continue to follow this as it has, again, taken a turn for the worst. A texas family is giving their little yorkie much deserved love after he almost died saving the life of their grandson. 11pound doggies paralyzed and in a tremendous amount of pain after protecting a child from another dog. A neighbors dog broke through the fence a aggressively approached that boy. Isy stepped in and larger dog grabbed him by the neck. That yorkie suffered a broken neck, spinal cord and crushed trachea. The doctor said well, youll have to put him down. I just cant do that. He saved gavins life. I cant give up his. It cost 5,000 to keep that yorkie alive but the vet says it will cost another 10,000 to give him a shot of walking again. Wow. Little hero. 5 19. Eyewitness News Reporter Steve Paterson joins us live, from Police Headquarters with the very latest, steve. Reporter in just preparing and getting up to speed on this story, i know that you were initially on the scene for this and looking back at the former video you did an interview with one of the family members who told you the absolute worst thing that can happen, the thing that they did in the want to hear is this may turn into a criminal investigation and this may now be the case. The sources telling cbs3 that homicide detectives are now involved in this case. I want to take you to the scene though, police there in the block yesterday afternoon, late yesterday afternoon, crime scene investigators full protective gear entering the home there on Strawberry Mansion and they were taking out evidence. The elderly couple, 66 yearold el gladys and 79 yearold roofus perry found dead in their home in the 2500 block of spangler street. The couples 39 yearold daughter found them dead in the living room early in the Morning Hours of thursday. There were no obvious signs of trauma initially, no forced entry, in Carbon Monoxide, none of that at the time of the initial investigation and as the the investigation progress i had it seemed like foul play was going to be ruled out as well but the investigation has taken a turn. Sources also telling cbs3 that two people are being questioned in connection to this case. That does not mean that two people have been arrested n fact no arrests have been made in this case as of yet. Homicide detectives are again, involved but that does not mean that this is a homicide at this time but it is being looked at and there is strong suspicion as when you have these detectives and the case changes like this that this may again turn into a criminal investigation, again, it is not what family and friend wanted to hear, we will stay on top of this as it progresses. Well, remembering a young woman found dead in a duffle bag in north philadelphia. Family and friend came to the tabernacle of the Holy Spirit Church for a Memorial Service for laura araujo, the 23 yearold was found dead monday after her body stuffed in the duffle bag outside of a vacant north philadelphia home was found. She graduated from the Art Institute last year and was about to start a new job. She didnt deserve this, not at all, she was the most beautiful person, always smiling. Always thinking positive. She had such a beautiful future ahead of her. The 22year old Jeremiah Jackson is charge with araujos murder, Police Believe that jackson targeted araujo who was staying on the same floor of the boarding house in mantua because he thought she had a lot of money. Well, a man is recovering after two leaders of a mosque in overbrook allegedly tried to chop off his hand with the machete. It happened machine morning at mosque on north 63rd street. Police say the two suspects dragged that man to the back of the property and attempted to cut off his hand. They accused him of stealing jars of money from that mosque. One suspect is in custody, police are coaching for the other. Well, it has happened again, another philadelphia medic unit breaks down this time on the way to an emergency. Only Eyewitness News was there. Matt rivers tells us this latest incident is renewing calls for the fleet to be replaced before it is too late. Reporter mid morning wednesday, july 16th, medic unit 48b is dispatched on a emergency call only it never makes it to the patient. While driving through northeast philadelphia the the ambulances drive shaft snaps rendering it useless near chandler street and hasbrook avenue. You can see the drive shaft resting against the road. Another ambulance comes to take its place and eventually gets the patient to the hospital. In the meantime medic 48b sit and sits for about three hours until it is loaded on to a flatbed truck. At that point the the drive shaft completely snaps off carried away by the tow truck driver. All of the while, fire engine 56 is forced to sit nearby blocking traffic to the street. It is sad that so many people in this city dont understand that the medic units in this city are beat to death. Reporter city records previously obtained by Eyewitness News show that medic 48b is one of the oldest it has, a 12 yearold model from 2002, part of the Fire Department fleet that is fast aging and over used say union officials. City records show 50 or so most used medic units made 280,000 runs in 2013 alone. They dont think that these trucks will break down in that kind of service, the city is being unrealistic. Reporter in may Fire Department officials told Eyewitness News that they believe medic units are in good overall condition, more than capable of doing their job. We have apparatus that are older, we have apparatus that is newer. We have made sure that we planned to upgrade our fleet as we receive funding. Reporter fire Officials Say they plan to replace 25 medics by next year, 50 percent of the total fleet. In the end though this is a budget issue. The the Fire Department can request all of the vehicles it wants but city decides what it will actually buy. You can expect this issue to stick around for some time. You can still see the blue through these clouds. If they are not a big deal and they dont mean precipitation and they keep the temperature several degrees lower then they should be and maybe a degree or two lower then it was yesterday around here. It looks nice looking at center city. We will go to the shore and we have light, and clouds there but this will be a nice beach day. Were looking forward to just ideal weekend conditions, again. This is just been quite a summer for this. Seventyone in philadelphia right now. Sixtyfive in trenton. Sixtyeight in wilmington. Sixtyfour in wildwood. Fiftyseven in the poconos. You have a choice in temperatures ranging from the 50s to the 60s to the 70s, so we like a few choices out there and we have got temperatures this morning. The were also finding a few clouds and you can see where clouds sort of thin out and youll find that trend today. Expect to see probably more in the way of clouds then sun but you cannot rule out getting sun breaks as well. If anybody sees a sprinkle it would be off to the west, probably, it is probably very remote that much of this is hitting the ground and if it is, it is one drop or two because that is very light on anybodys scale. Especially when we have a layer of dry air we are finding over us right now. Our dew points are in the 50s and that is low this time of the year. Current dew point is five 46789 you will in the be complaining about humidity today and maybe we will get to 55 degrees but where does that put us on the comfort index . It puts us in the pleasant range. Youll love that somewhere between awesome and pleasant i think we will take that range. We will get High Pressure that starts to move away and we will watch low pressure coming along and they will find a much more soggy day through the carolinas then we will be finding but we could just get brushed with just a sprinkle, it is not a huge chance along the shore areas especially overnight and it wouldnt be a big deal at all. It is just throwing back a few clouds. This move monday will be very comfortable around here, but then, by that point we will start to watch a cold front that begins to approach the area slowly. Humidity will increase, heat increases and tuesday, wednesday, thursday look to be some hot days around here, again. We have cloud cover to start, according to our computer model, a few breaks in all that as you can see, do you get a little light shower, spun back off of this low pressure system that is out in the ocean . It is entirely possible. Overnight. But it is not a big deal in any location. Otherwise we are watching for sun and clouds tomorrow, same deal on monday and then by the time we will get just an outside chance of a shower as we get later in the day on monday but better chances as we get probably the best day of the week for these showers would be that wednesday night thursday time period. Otherwise these temperatures have been performing just spectacularly and we will find these temperatures right where they were yesterday. We could stop a degree short of that. Going to the beach today temperatures in the upper 70s. We have temperatures in the water right around 72 degrees today. In the poconos air temperature of 78. This is a great weekend to get outside. You wont wonted by the son too much because of the clouds too. 84 degrees today. Nil at tonight we will drop down to 65. Confidentable around here again tomorrow. We have temperatures that get in the lower 80s again. Monday middle 80s. Tuesday close to 90 degrees. Wednesday 94. And hot and humid. Do we see a shower or a thunderstorm coming up at that point. And then thursday 91 degrees before that front finally leaves us. But they also want to give back to the city, country and here in philadelphia they necessity we love food so they are partnering with the food trust to help people have access to affordable, healthy food this summer. Here to tell us more is dwayne warden, external Affairs Director of food trust. Young man, good to see you. Good to see you, ukee. Welcome. Give everybody a little background on food trust, your mission, your goal. So the food trust is a philadelphia based nonprofit. We work around the country to mack sure that people have access to healthy, affordable foods and the information that they need to make good decisions around making their lives and their family lives better and healthier. Reporter i can hear in your voice and see in your eyes this is very important to you personally to be involved, to be part of that organization, how so, why so. I think that i personally as an advocate the for Healthy Communities know that the work of the food trust does is very encompassing, so it is a comprehensive approach to some of the issues that our city and frankly our nation is facing around our health and a lot of those things are diet related. So were talking about increased obesity and diabetes and hypertension and a lot of it is because people simply dont have the means to make healthier choice necessary their communities. There is just not a lot of fruits and vegetables available and i think for us as a food trust we want to try to address that and give them the support they need to learn how to cook vegetables and other ways they can make their familys lives healthier. Lets continue to shout it out and talk about this partnership and this event, going on today. That is right. Give us the location and time and how it all work. So color run, they are happening all around the country. We have a 5k event. We are all used to that, right. Added bonus to this is it is just a lot of fun. We are running through, you are getting doused with bright pinks and bright yellows and there is a dj playing and there is food trucks. It is happening today at the Wells Fargo Center, today at 9 00 a. M. And shout is actually the sponsor for the the color run. They are partner with the food trust to spread the message and talk about how, we want everybody to go outside, get messy and have fun and be healthy. And they do some great things in the community and all around this country. Im sure it makes you feel good to be associated with shout. Yes, definitely. Again, for us we have events like the night market. So everyone, i dont know if everyone knows but we have it four times a year throughout the city and we have about 20, 25,000 people. Wow. Coming to these communities and they are experiencing great food from about 50, 60 food trucks. We have band. Live music. We make food a celebration. We have our program called hype, healthy you positive energy, working in schools all around the city, to promote healthy habits. So we have these youth who are Health Ambassadors who are having after school zoomba classes that they are running, they are having smoothie sales instead of candy sales, they are promoting the drinking of water in their schools, and we want being healthy to be fun and cool and hip and that is what hype one of the food trust programs does.
