Keeping our eye on storm system thats dumping sleet and rain in some parts every our area and snow elsewhere. It is all making for rather tricky and treacherous morning commute out there live look at the roads in montgomeryville, courtesies every mobile three. As the storm turns through the region, take your time getting to work or school. Yes, you just basically need to allow extra time on a morning like. This dealing with slush falling precipitation, could be dealing with some slick travel as well. But noticing probably over my shoulder, a lofter green. A lot of the precipitation has since turned over, from rain, rather from snow to rain. See some of the lowlying cloud cover typically off in the distance see liberty place, comcast building, cant make it out at all. Live look at the shore points. Well, the very tell tail, but very vast difference, in how it feels outside and temperatures specifically, across the region. Lets go to storm scan, we have to touch on, that as well obviously some rain for the most part, the story for you for the southern two thirds of the region, but you are still finding snow. It is thumbing down well, weather snow, heavier wet snow up through the Lehigh Valley but snowing as fall through that way and the poconos. Still winter storm warnings posted there. But really the reason i show this is to, a not just pinpoint the fact that it is still raining or at least coming down in some way shape or form that precipitation right now, but also, that youre seeing that milder air just reflected by the fact that the colors are changing from south to north. Now, there are still winter storm warnings posted. Essentially for the Northern Tier of our region, that includes western montgomery, upper bucks berks county and all point north. Winter weather advisory, further south, start to expire sooner, but Winter Weather advisory still in effect for all of the counties shaded in purple until at least 5 00 a. M. , many last until 10 00 a. M. Keep that in mind. Further north they tends to drop off little bit down in dover talking one and half miles at this hour, and looking quickly at the difference in the temperature it really is a vast difference. Starting to warm up with more of the southerly flow, that will help that snow turn over to rain. We still want you to play it safe out there. For more on how it is really looking on the roadways, we sends out to Carol Erickson live with the cbs3 mobile weather lab hi, carol. Looks cents can be looks cents add rawling rule ever looking at ryan primarily, not sure from one location to another, is it below freezing or not . Thats the question drivers will be facing this morning when they get out here. And when you step out your first step, you know, go gingerly go, slowly when you make the first step out to your door. The mobile weather lab right now, as we are in lower providence and we just left phoenixville oaks, that sort of thing so were in about three different towns in about four seconds. Right now lower providence, we did see a truck that was sliding on some of the slush. So know that the plows have been out and we are finding road crews right ahead every us, plows out trying to get rid of the slush the ream danger, when we ends up, no, yes, it is, and are they dropping anything i would love to see they are dropping little salt. Because the slush with the water on top of it, that is the slick spot that youre going to be finding. So far we came out the schuylkill expressway over the ben franklin bridge, weve been on a lot of different roads this morning the majors look fine. But then you get off on 23, like we are right now and you can see that you have got the slush here. We have encountered. That will the temperatures are trying to get above the freezing mark, in some cases they are making it, degrees by degrees. But the rain comes down, the snow can be very stubborn. Depending on elevation and just exactly where you are location wise, the farther north, the colder it is, thats whats going to be the problem that were facing this morning. And i know that we have something we have special treat right now that happens to be in the traffic sentiment meteorologist, justin drabek, doing great job. Who are these roads . Are they doing a great job . Thank you carol. You are the treat this morning. Goat work w im trying to be like you. You are the woman of all trades. So, you know, im trying to show up up a lit bit. Trying to show off my skills. But, yes roads across the region again to the north where we will find few accident, especially up on northeast extension, but his is the blue route southbound, just past midcounty and were moving just wet roads see the slushy conditions on some of the medians, well take you to the ben franklin bridge, visibility may be low in some spots, but at least we are moving, but there are speed restrictions on the area bridges, the ben franklin bridge weaver restriction both ways, eastbound and westbound, at 25 miles per hour, same speed restriction for the Betsy Betsy Ross bridge, that will be slow, walt whitman bridge at 35 miles per hour, so just keep that in mind when headed toward the area bridges. We do have disable vehicle on i95 northbound, between cottman avenue and academy road that may slow things down eventually when the Traffic Volume picks up up in milford township, still dealing with a accident on the northeast tens sean between quakertown and Lehigh Valley. And again it, gets little more icier as you head farther north, and another accident, on the northeast extension right before the Lehigh Valley interchange. We do have a Construction Zone on 295 right before route 168. So that may slow things down little later on as well. Thats the latest on the roads. Mass transit looks okay. Erika, back over to you. Thank if you pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf is urging caution for the morning commute. Just good advice for drivers in the suburbs and everywhere, too, Eyewitness News reporter jan carabeo joins us now in exton, chester county, to check on the roads there jan, good morning. Erika, good morning still raining here in exton, chester county, this morning but thats making the roads very slick. The highways were completely saturated. We saw some ponding and the side streets look much like this parking lot does. Just how wet and saturate in the area s any snow that fell overnight is being saturated by the rain, or the mix precipitation that were now seeing, and the roads of course, look just like this, penndot, how much; prepared, theyve more than 300 salt trucks and snow plows on the roads, overnight, this is the 11th time this season, that theyve had to pull in that many crews. Theyve got a lot of salt to work w they actually pre treated the roads late as week in preparation for the snow squawls, we saw on friday. So they say a lot of the salt and the brine is left over from that storm and what you see in your area this morning as far as penndot goes; going to depends on whats falling from the sky. Take a listen. Were expecting snow to accumulate farther north of the philadelphia region, more toward the allentown area, there it will be more after plowing operation, here in the southeast, it will be more after salting operation as we combat the sleet the snow, the freezing rain thats accompanying the storm. Very quiet out here this morning, it is just us, and couple of private contractors with their plows, and not really much to plow, but a lot of slush now, because of the snow that fell overnight. And now mixing with this rain, penndot of course urging everyone to be very cautious on the roads this morning, and they do have some speed restrictions in place of course vittoria will have all of that information for you throughout the morning well keep you uptodate on all of the conditions. For now live in exton, jan carabeo, cbs3, Eyewitness News. Thank you jan. Kyw1060 jim mel worth out keeping an eye on the road conditions, joins us out in montgomeryville streaming live pictures. Jim, we saw what jan showed us what do you have . Good morning. A lot of the same here, very wet slushy, mix here, looks like maybe they got about an inch of snow before this turns to rain. Thats turning it to slush driving isnt terrible, it is a lot slower, not a lot slower maybe 10 miles an hour under the speed limit. Feels like a safe speed. But as jan mentioned, a lot of ponding or puddles on the roadway, in places where you wouldnt normally see them, as the slush kind of blocks some of the drainage, most of the roads that ive been on 202 363, 309 out here, the tire tracks are just wet the cars that are out is kind of cleared a path however. You get in some of the turn lanes, and that can kind of sneak up on you. Those are coated with thicker snowier slush, and that can casino every get a little slippery. For the most part slower but nothing, nothing too terrible that ive seen so far. My man good heads up. Jim mel worth kyw news radio two, three, four times a day. Thank you, sir. Well get back to you. And many more here on Eyewitness News. Coming up on Eyewitness News, bolds err boulder smashes into a building. Find out where this happened. Katie . Oh, junior trooper thats adorable, i love it. Well, weaver got lots to discuss, lets move on, right to storm scan3 we go, where we are still finding a lot of precipitation, and a nice variety of precipitation. What you notice on the back edge that there is a little hint after back edge, still finding additional rounds every rain sort of building in on the back edge of this. But there is at least a distinct sort of break, we may find bit of lull towards the ends of typical morning rush, but the problem is i mean the mess is already here, so when you go out youll be battling whats already been left behind. And as weve been hearing through the live reports this morning, it is started off as snow, since sort of just i mean that line has just continued to shift further north and further north with time here. So, it is a real sign that the warmer air warmer air; starting to build in here. Now, up to the Pleasant Valley middle and high school we go, where there is nice fresh batch of snow on the ground in broads heads ville. Theyll have to be shoveling away, and plowing away a lot of this for the School Busses to get on through. But, generally region by region, this is what you need to know. So for the cities and the suburbs, immediate suburbs mainly rain and slush. The further south you go, ponding is more after issue rain is definitely more of an issue, so dealing more with rainstorm out of. This but if you go far enough north talking even cup old of counties away, hundred miles further to the north totally different scene. So be ready for. That will you know, depending where your travels take you you could see every different casino of precipitation out there, and have a completely different beginning of your trip and ends of your trip. But it is groundhog day. So if there is i guess a trade off here, maybe it means the groundhog wont see his shadow, which would mean early spring. Well see how we do. 28 degrees by tomorrow. Very very cold, and certainly, that does mean that any left over moisture could freeze back over. Justin, over to you. All right good morning everyone, and again finding accidents specially on the northern part of the viewrg area where we find the icy conditions, but live look at route 422 westbound at 363 trooper road. Cars are moving, a lot of road spray to deal with, wet roads looks like speeds rupp. Notice all of the slush on the side decent amount of snow did fall in that region. Close to the philadelphia, the ben franklin bridge moving, but again speed restrictions there, both ways, just some wet roads. Could be some low visibility, as well. Area bridges are going to be slow this morning both directions, ben franklin bridge has speed restriction every 25 miles per hour, same deal on the betsy ross, walt whitman, restriction of 35 miles per hour. Some travel speeds across the region up on the schuylkill expressway, it is a little bit slow, 33 miles per hour, right before the conshohocken curve. Little bit slow earlier in south philadelphia, but thats pick up a little bit. Speeds reduced little bit on the roosevelt boulevard. And we do talk about some traffic accidents up through to the north again the pennsylvania turnpike, we have tractortrailer accident in the right lane, up in milford between quakertown and Lehigh Valley. And still dealing with the accident up at the Lehigh Valley interchange. So a little bit of problems there on the northeast extension, mass transit looks good as well as airports, no delays. We send it back to you. Still ahead on Eyewitness News this morning, an update on an enormous recall affecting more than 2 million vehicles. First though heres whats coming up tonight on cbs3. Be careful of the wintery mix, depending on where you liver, could you see any sort of the wintery precipitation there was snow on the street every south philly early this morning, rain there now temperatures right around the freezing mark, so give yourself some extra time to get where youre going also, be wary every those roads out there, take some extra time. The morning commute could be tricky. Patriots came back from tenpoint down to win it, the victory was preserved bypass linebacker by the interception on the goal line in the final second. Patriots win 2824. Breaking news suspect was just arraigned and charged with the murder of social worker kim jones at north philadelphia bus stop last night. Source tell cbs3 Eyewitness News the suspect is randolph sanders, were told he is a coworker of the victim. More that far coming up in a bit. Coming up after a break traffic and weather totogether on the 3s. Well be right he. 4 53, justin checking the roads, my man . Good morning, ukee, thats right, seeing some problems, especially across the northern part of the viewing area, few accident even with wet roads hydro, route one southbound, fox street, traffic picking up southbound. Still moving pretty good. Notice the wet roads still pockets of heavy rain moving through from time to time. Moving into new jersey, the 42 freeway, again still a loft ponding on the roads. Watch out the a. C. Expressway also speed restriction down there at 35 miles per hour. Travel speeds, across the region little slow, up in through northeast philadelphia on route one there picking up is speed on the schuylkill expressway and 95 right now. So thats the good thing. But things probably will slow down later on this morning once traffic increases. Speed restrictions on the area bridges. Benjamin franklin bridge betsy ross both coming in at 25 miles per hour, restrictions walt whitman at 35 miles per hour, stowe will be slow go in and out of the city. We have a new accident i295 northbound past mt. Holly in willingboro. So again watch out for some delay potential there over the next few hours more accidents again on the northeast extension, again the farther north you go better shot for icy conditions. This is tractortrailer in the right lane, right by the quakertown exit. You may want to get off at the exit and head north or south on 309. For an alternate route. Farther up north toward the Lehigh Valley interchange another accident still in play. And then richmond township, california road, near keystone road also, another accident. So pack the patience this morning, mass transit no delays, as well as the airport, all is good there. And now for the rest of the weather forecast, we send it back over to kate way check on whats happening. Good morning. Us a said justin, the further north you go the more likely tour run into the potential problem every still some very slick conditions. I would say just expect it might slow you down out there regardless, whether it is slick weather, you have just got ponding on the roads doesnt matter, whenever this precipitation, any kind of pre zip, can slow you down it, will certainly on a morning like. This at the local level here yes, you have got every color available to you youve had some very heavy rain already moving through bulk of which at this point actually east of the jersey shore line here. Going to be eventually clipping long island, already in fact, seeing some pretty heavy snow out that way. But you see the rainsnow line. Very distinct. It is a little muddled in the last two hours but you can see, the generally speaking it has been lifting north so, what that means, is that we start today see some milder air, quote unquote milder air moving n definitely not going to be very warm day. But it is mile enough it will turn that snow over to just straight up rain in many locations, that said, still winter storm warnings posted, further up you go, the later they expire, so again slow travel, some clean to up do for sure. 35 degrees the current temperature at the airport and it is a lot milder. You have ten ex from a degrees where you are in wildwood. So thats a sure sign that you know maybe you are not going to be finding as much every icing concern rather pond being situation. So it really is going to be variable. Depending where your travels take you the further north you are, the more likelihood that you will be running into slick spots and then later tonight, those temperatures are going to crash. So rapid freeze up also very likely. Guys, back to you. All right katie thank you. Turning over to just rain. Problem is you cant take it at face value, even though what you are finding on storm scan is in fact true to whats falling to the ground. All point south at this point, do you have take into account the fact that the surface may still be cold enough to support some freezing, now lets take a look at just some of the locations here where weve pick up several tents after inch already picking up almost half inch of rain in philadelphia, as weve updated the totals since last check Atlantic City over half inch, as is medford, vineland, so far. Soap, you know, racking up some good rain here, that does mean youll find a loft ponding out there. With any snow that did fall, earlier. You will find slush for sure
