Cbs news correspondent Chris Martinez explains how it all works. Reporter Mosquito Control teams in this california neighborhood are trying a new tactic to battle the bugs that carry the zika virus. The mosquito is called. This is a vector of some very serious diseases. Historically, yellow fever, and now more recently, the zika virus. Reporter scientists are releasing hundreds of thousands of scientifically altered male mosquitoes to mate with female which can carry the zika virus. They carry a bacteria, which prevents the female from reproducing. Females are only ones that bite people and spread disease. So the eggs are not viable. They wont hatch. Reporter lab in kentucky inject males with the bacteria and shipped them to california. Are these all of the search species. These are. Reporter researchers expect the mosquito population will plumet and they could use this army of mosquitoes strategically against zika if it appears. Interesting to go see disease transmission in the certain area. You can go there and release them. Beach temperatures, at 90 degrees at ocean city. Ninetyone in cape may. 73degree ocean water temperature will feel pretty nice. Wind are shifting more out of the northwest now. Ten to 15 miles an hour. So that direction means the air is coming from can inadequacies, cooler, dryer there. You will notice a drop in humidity throughout the daytoday into tomorrow but still it is going to be hot. It does feel oppressive today with the high humidity levels but tomorrow much better. No the that bad. Slight increase sunday and monday but today will be the worst, out of the next seven days. Weak cold front trying to come through right now. We will stay in the clouds passing through the poconos at this hour. Not producing any showers. And mainly, sunny skies, and, then not much, activity across the ohio valley. So, that means a dry weekend shaping up. Shore forecast, it is a good one, close to 90 with lots of sunshine. Cooler tomorrow. We will get breeze off water. 84 degrees. We will finish off weekend with no problems lower 80s, mostly sunny skies and that trend will continue into early next week. Were watching two systems in the tropics, investigating 99l, that is still having a tough time, and, tough to watch, and over the next five days. Then we have Tropical Storm status, this storm will stay out over the opened water of the atlantic but look at how far over the central waters it is. It is a strong storm. The it will send stronger rip currents our way probably on sunday, through the next, few days and next week. Gaston stays out to sea but watch out for strong rip currents along the coast and watch 99l, could strengthen over weekend, main threat will be into florida, dropping one to 2 inches of rain across southern florida and gulf coast. Back home, cold front not producing showers, does push out humidity. High pressure over new england for saturday and sunday. That blocks us from any storms. We will have a dry weekend. That trend continues into next week. Is there pocket of hot air over us right now for the next several days. This is a typical midsummer weather pattern and we are dealing with temperatures in the lower 90s. It is not cool second half of next week. Cooler air out of canada that will knock temperatures bob where they should be for this time of the year. Sun, cloud, 93 degrees. It will be warm tonight, humidity levels start to drop mostly clear with the low of 71. Extended forecast, these numbers are typical for mid to late july, not late august, we should be around 84, and close to 90 degrees, with lots of sunshine into next week.
