Just into our newsroom eyewitness video shows fire tearing through a home in lumberton Burlington County. Its ross crispin road knowledge reports of any injuries or a cause. Only on three tonight accused of of a crime he did not commit. And now knew at 11 00 oclock, a 19yearold who spent months in jail speaks out about what he went through. As our walt hunter shows us, his ordeal may be over, but why it took so long remains a mystery. I just put my faith in god. Reporter 19yearold mcduffy his mother at his side told me how you survived seven months behind bars accused of of a crime he did not commit. I thought about the same thing every day. When im going to home. When i see him with that orange jumpsuit and he came out of there, that broke my heart. Reporter mcduffys mother remembered her first visit to her son held on half a Million Dollars bail on charges he had broken into a blind womans home on his block, turning on the gas jets as he left after being routed by her service dog. Going to prison for nothing. Thats immoral. Reporter first adams and friends raised money to get mcduffy released on bail but that joyful reunion came with a terrible financial cost. You lose your house, your car, you lose your life, you know, youre broke. Reporter once free it would be 11 more months until just this past thursday before the cloud of suspicion was lifted. The da asking a judge in court to drop all charges. It was great feeling when they said it was dismissed. I felt like up . Pink for joy in the courtroom but we couldnt. Reporter das office says it app arrests mcduffy based on evidence but following his preliminary hearing where a judge ordered him held for tri trial. Question arose. Prosecutorprosecutors developedl evidence raising substantial concerns about the victims prior history and visual queue were the. I didnt understand why anybody didnt try to investigate more. Get back to school. Im a father now. Raise my son be the best father she can. She wants an apology from the district attorney. Apologize to my son for not looking into that because you call yourself the da that wants to fight for justice and protect people. You didnt protect my son at all. Reporter while the woman who filed the complaint hasnt been available for comment, mcduffys Attorney Says he believes she fabricated the entire story. Meanwhile, neither the District Attorneys Office or police say will say the case has been officially closed. Weve got shocking new details tonight in a Burlington County tragedy that claimed two young lives and left a third child in Critical Condition. Small group of volunteers came to the house around it just visible through drawn shades. They were clearly a second floor bedroom after a crime seemingly unthinkable just two days ago. It was Late Afternoon when we first learn the details. Thursday morning, after 5 00 but before 9 00, 44yearold janine la page grabbed a revolver an pillow. She shot each of her children using the pillow to muscle the noise. Then she shot herself. All four victims were found in the same bed. Reporter thats where another relative found them and called 911. 14yearold nick harmin and his eightyearold sister nadia were killed. Their 11yearold brother alex remains in Critical Condition along with his mother gentleman nope both in cooper hospital in camden. The motive is not one of those things things well be able to talk about today. We may never know with certainty. Reporter it depends on if janine la page survives. If she does, shell be charged with murdering at least two of her children. Its something the childrens father is dealing with. His owner jj pierce is thrilled to have her black lab mix back. She describes for us the moment she was reunited with louie. He walk right up to me and started like nuzzling me and, um, it took sometime before i realized they were telling me in the background like hes been scanned this is him. Like this is confirmed to be him. But i knew it, you know, as soon as as soon as he walked up. So good to see him in that bed its unclean exactly where louie was the whole time. But we do know two people got in touch with some members of the search party to say they found a dog matching louies description. Louie was then taken to the vet where they confirmed his identity and he was reunited with pierce. Louie lost about 15 pounds but otherwise, hes in good health. Great news. Although theyre small devi devices, theres so many operating they have a large impact. Reporter according to study by the car experts at you had mounds, a consumer grade leaf blower emits more pollutants than this ford f1 fief raptor. Id like to see a total ban of leaf blowers. In cities banned or restricted them like montclair, new jersey, where fred and pat live. They helped pass the law which prohibits people from using leaf blowers in warmer months when the heat compounds. Negative effects. Many gas operated leaf blowers are made with whats called a two stroke engine but many gas powered chain sauce, lawnmowers and snow blowers have them, too. And theres no movement to ban all of these machines. Jodi is the executive director of the new jersey landscape contractors association. While he recognizes the concerns, he believes leaf blowers provide a big benefit. So much more efficient than using a rake. Reporter is concerned that bans could end up hitting homeowners in the wallet. Its going to raise the cost significantly for homeowners that do have landscaped contractors taking care of their property. Reporter epa regulates leaf blowers and says they must be manufactured to meet federal emission standards. And last year, in maryland, a new jersey man, an off duty detective, driving with his wife and three children, used deadly force to stop another driver. Joseph walker says the driver screamed racial slurs and forced his vehicle off the row. When he got out to check his tires, two men got out the other car and headed toward walker and his family.
