The trump plaza may be next to shut its doors. So, what does this mean for the casinos still stand . Good evening, im natasha brown. Thanks so much for joining us. Hundreds of employees will likely learn their fate in the days to come. Eyewitness News Reporter matt rivers spoke to one gaming expert who says the closure of trump plaza may be what Atlantic City needs to get back on track. Reporter Atlantic Citys cold street goes on with the announcement that the trump plaza a boardwalk staple since 1984 will likely close down. Its owners told the Associated Press while no final decisions have been made its doors will likely close on september 16, taking over 1,000 jobs with it. Its sad. We come down for girls weekend and it goes down. Reporter the casino has been struggling for sometime. Gambling revenues are down 27 percent since last year when it only took in 73 million. Shame its dead. We came back from the tropicana. Its not a lot of gambling going on. Reporter the trump plaza is hardly alone. The Atlantic Club shut down, the showboat set to close august 31st and revel will soon follow if a buyer isnt found. Nearly 7,000 employees have already lost their jobs or could lose them soon. Thats nearly one in four in all casino workers in Atlantic City and its happened since january 1st. The weakest companies were the ones that are in the news right now. Reporter israel months interis a Casino Industry expert and says its no coincidence that the worst performing casinos are also the ones shutting down but when weaker casinos close it strengthens those that remain. For now he thinks the closures are over with. I really dont anticipate any other companies announcing anywhere in the near term. I could be wrong but i dont see it. Reporter heres hoping hes right. But with attitudes like this its very sad. I think ac is a great time. Cement like its going away. Reporter the city by the sea could use more good news. More details about the future of the trump plaza should be announced on monday. Matt rivers, cbs3 Eyewitness News. Well, actor comedian tracy morgan has been released from a Rehab Facility one month after a multi vehicle pileup left him critically injured. A spokesperson says morgan will continue to recover at home with an aggressive outpatient program. Now morgan did suffer a broken leg nose and ribs on june 7 when a walmart tractortrailer slammed into his limo van on the new jersey turnpike. Fellow comedian james mcnair was killed and weve also learned morgan is now suing walmart. He alleges the retail giant allowed truck driver kevin roper to drive despite being awake for more than 24 hours causing him to fall asleep at the wheel. Now, in response to the lawsuit walmart said in a statement we are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved. We know it will take some time to resolve all of the remaining issues as a result of the accident, but were committed to doing the right thing for all involved. Now the moon is shining. If you look closely you can see it reflecting off the water but we are expecting a pretty quiet night in general around the region. Stale few speck kelce of activity out there especially back through berks county where weve had several Little Pockets of showers and even strong thunderstorms rumbling through since, say, early this evening and late afternoon. Meanwhile our current temperature readings are still on the mild side. Probably going to drop another five, 6 degrees or so around the region as a whole as we move forward in the forecast here. Developing right now for the First Time Since the conflict Israeli Military forces went into gaza and raided a long range missile launching site for Israeli Soldiers four of the soldiers were injured during a exchange of gunfire with hamas. The International Community is calling for a ceasefire. Cbs news correspondent alfonso van marsh has more. Reporter israel stepped up its air assault on gaza saturday but militants fired back sending at least three missiles sailing over tel aviv following a televised promise they would strike at 9 00 p. M. Local time. Its the latest in the exchange of rocket fire between israelis and hamas militants. Earlier a missile destroyed a mosque in gaza the israelis claimed was used to store weapons. South of tel aviv demonstrators like israeli mahmoud called for an tend to the israeli air strikes. We stand today against a bombing gaza. Reporter but as they protested, israeli air sirens warned of incoming rocket fire. The Israeli Military says its air Defense System shot two hamas missiles out of the sky. Several other hamas rockets landd in open fields. The antiwar protesters regrouped despite calls by their leader to go home for their own safety. These protesters are in a minority here but they say theyll keep demonstrating until their Israeli Government stops what they call a massacre. Soon below israel supporters showed up singing patriotic songs. The two groups separated only by a traffic lane but fears of confrontation never materialized. A brother and sister missing from northeast philadelphia since friday night have been found safe and sound. Sincere mcgovern and mikhaila tucker were reported missing after they did not return home from the Decatur School playground. Police say the kids are okay but did not say where they had been all this time. And police are also investigating a family murder in philadelphias Oxford Circle neighborhood. Detectives say a 51yearold man was shot in the head by his brother on the 1000 block of levick street. This is all happened around 6 30 this morning. The brother is currently under arrest. No word on what led to this shooting. A motorcyclist is dead after a crash in burlington township, new jersey. This happened about 1 15 this morning in the 2000 block of route 541. Police say the driver of the harley, 58yearold peter price, collided with an suv. Price was rushed to the hospital where he died. The driver of the suv was not injured. This investigation does continue. And firefighters rescued two people from a house fire in philadelphias mantua neighborhood early this morning. Two other residents managed to escape the flames. Eyewitness news on the 3900 block of aspen street just after 2 30. One firefighter did suffer a minor hand injury. The cause of this blaze is also under investigation tonight. And the Mural Arts Program dedicates its latest masterpiece in philadelphia. Tolerance is the subject of this piece of art at the Smith Recreation Center in west philly. This is all part of the summer of peace campaign. The goal here is to reduce crime, also to educate kids about alternatives to violence in the city of philadelphia. The man accused in the familys death is 33 year old Ronald Lee Haskell accused of breaking into the family s home while searching for his exwife and then shooting them. Haskell collapsed twice in court. He had to be wheeled out of court. She just want d to thank the community. Im really thankful for all of the people that have been praying for me and keeping me and my family in their thoughts the past couple days. And i would like to thank all of the first responders, nurses and doctors that have taken care of me. Im feeling a lot better and im on a very straight forward path to a full recovery. It ended with the release of 600 balloons, 100 for each of the victims. The suspect Ronald Lee Haskell has had a handful of previous run ins with Law Enforcement in. The last surviving member of the punk band the ramons has died. Tommy ramon died in queens new york. He had been 65 and had been in hospice care. He was the drummer in the ramons which he cofounded in 1974. The group earned an induction into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2002. We have a warning tonight for swimmers at a new jersey lake. The largest lake in jersey. Theres an unwandered guest in the water. A boa constrictor has been spotted at least a dozen or so times around lake hopatcong. The 15 to 20foot snake once briefly slither need a local boathouse. Animal control Officials Say people need to be very cautious right now. What were afraid of is the animals, small dogs, cats, raccoons and i would advise people not to put their baby in the lake. A snake this size could probably swim about 25 miles an hour. Well, officials believe the snake was once a pet and was released into the lake. Now, boa constrictors are not poisonous but they can squeeze a person to death. Some of the areas finest firefighters meantime they faced off for some friendly competition. The Montgomery County water battle returned to towamencin Montgomery County today. Several hundred volunteer firefighters from at least 14 different departments competed in events like a tugofwar and a barrel on a wire. The challenges forced the firefighters to use the skills they learned during training. This camaraderie with the fire companies, everybody gets together, you know, we fight fires together, you know, so you might as well do something, have fun together. The water battle has roots that date back to the nations very First Fire Department that began here in philadelphia in the 17 hundreds. A zune moon is a full moon, nothing more, that appears about 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than youd normally find it because its actually at its closest point to the earth in its orbit. We only typically see this about maybe once every 13 and a half months or so, but this one this time around were seeing it come a little bit sooner. So, cool stuff for you there. Heres another view for you, a nighttime all lit up not necessarily from the moon but from all the Amusement Park rides and all the lights on the boardwalk if ocean city t beautiful view and a very packed view on the boards right now ocean city t lets talk about water temperatures. Theyve been a little cool as of late. You go into the bay area, though, its way warmer. Its a little bit of a smaller body of water to heat up so its had a chance to moderate up a bit more readily here. In fact beach haven we get our off shore buoy reading from sandy hook which is a little further in towards the bay area. Youre generally in the lower 70s. Still a little cool for my tastes but its getting there. Storm scan3 as we look here next had a little activity as we tacked about earlier on, a few stray showers, a popup thunderstorm was out there but thats starting to fizzle away. Most of us are just left with a partly cloudy sky through the overnight. But you probable have heard the rumblings of this polar vortex style pattern changes coming our way. One system rolling south right now ushering Severe Weather across the midwest, then reinforcement moving in from canada. Once that rolls our way we dont necessarily see any kind of polar air necessarily. Well rather see a little bit more of a just a refreshing air mass take over but more than anything i think Severe Weather ends up being the big player for us. Already the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Weather outlook. A slight risk for most of the delaware valley. Right now just the shore points are in the clear but downpours, hail, damaging wind, its all a possibility. Again thats for monday, no the tomorrow. However, theres a caveat here. Tomorrow we are also tracking this next cold front. Could bring in a couple of showers or thunderstorms. Right now future weather wants to bring them in really heavily at times. So, were building up the moisture content in the atmosphere. That could lead to some very heavy rain at times tomorrow, possibly on monday as well and again thats when our Severe Weather threat starts to take effect once again. Association its looking to be an unsettled couple of days am i hate to be the bearer of that news but again, its july in philly. We see this every year at least for a couple of days. Meanwhile feature heat index. Sunday at 11 00 a. M. Already feels like 90 degrees so its going to be a steamy day. Our daytime high is only going to be shy of this by five, 6 degrees or so but it is going to feel hotter when you factor in the building humidity. Even monday morning the sun has barely been up and its already feeling like its into the 80s and it might flirt with triple digit heat index values so keep that in mind. Going to be a pretty hot couple of days, unsettled for that matter, partly cloudy, seasonably mild as we drop down to 70.
