Buzz says we were really quite prepared for this so we thought but very early on the morning of October 27th that was a Sunday everything went nuts our generator on Banner mountain failed and the failure was with the throttle linkage controlling the speed of the engine what Ok Unfortunately it failed to fulfill the generator shut down due to an overspeed alarm but before it did it generated voltages well in excess of what our equipment was designed. Fortunately most of what we lost were only fuses but our $89.00 f.m. Exciter. My favorite piece of equipment and our studio to transmitter link the device that carries a signal from downtown Dallas City to better mountain were damaged Unfortunately we didn't even know that until we were able to borrow a generator special thanks to Edison I had high sierra like this and generator for providing this on such a short notice and we store power to pander mountain so even after the power was restored it took some time to carry rig a transmitter system to put a 9.5 back on the air we ran like that for slightly more than a week until parts were delivered to repair our exciter. You know it's it's complicated folks you wouldn't you wouldn't know it as a listener that it's just magically streams into your ear but there's a lot going on here behind the scenes especially when there's weird power outages that we have no control over for the length of time and all that stuff yeah and also it took about 14 hours to get it back on the air so we started I think about 1 in the morning something like that and when we and we got and and it was a lot of work for buzz and felt and he weather folks to get this thing out get this thing going to David Rohde I think might have been up there as well big but the thing it's really good about it is that when we came back and we never never left. The Internet we were still broadcasting live so so for the so for the people that had access to the Internet they could still hear our report to the top of the hour and what was going on that day including a fire in the Brunswick basin that we were 1st. We 1st heard about from some fire spotter named Jerry and Van Dyke Show. You were living in it but the critical thing was right or was working. I probably smelled it I magine. Anyway the good the good news was that when we came back on the air we had Sheriff Shannon Mooney live on the air with us today tell us that the fire in the Brunswick basin was 75 percent contained and that and that and that really calm people down there was I read that morning it was so windy that morning and I was actually driving out of town and I remember thinking This is like some big wind here this and it was suddenly it shifted from just being a power outage that didn't seem like it was an emergency into this kind of more dire feelings that you. That kind of gave a lot of people a lot of fear and it was scary there the wind blown around trees falling down and the fire spreading started well it's $939.00 and you can call us here at 530-265-9555 obviously this is a special day till 6 o'clock tonight we're doing a crisis fundraiser you may say for our generator we need a new generator and a translator and maybe an exciter I don't know I love the word and it's just so exciting.
