Pat bowlen is not able to be here today but he will be on the hearts and minds of fans of this city and state and across the state and this man who helped this team reach the pinnacle of sports twice and created a Second Generation of leaders. Elway, kubiak. Who came back and led the team to the top once more. It has been a gift to the past and present and future. And we know, as we have said, this maybe the last time we see some of them, but boy have we lived this whole season with all of them. And look to the future with some of these Young Players that we expect to be a part of the fabric of our community for a long, long time. If you are just joining us, so glad that you are here. Kyle clark along with kim, at civic center park. Where the parade will end in about an hours time. The broncos are getting ready we will take you out there live as soon as it starts. We have cameras all along the mile and a half parade route. Just think. When you see the guys who are up there, on the floats, the assemblage of talent that we have and how unique this team is, unique being just one, nothing like it in the world, a legend, who could have gone anywhere, chose here and the question is, how much did Peyton Manning have left . And the answer is enough. Enough. Enough. Exactly. He had enough. And the leadership and the people and the way others stepped up that needed to be leaders at the right time and that was with Brock Osweiler and no one knew who he was and his teammates responded to him. And gary kubiak. And he came in over the summer and met individually with each player and talked to them how families were, and wanted to get to know them. Getting a whole team of guys he had never bet before. And say i am going to try to get you to the big game. I think when you see on that parade route, von miller, a player with all the talent in the world, drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos in 2011, and the question was, would he have the maturity to match the talent and we know now he does. Yes. He is a leader. He is an entertainer. He is a class act who plays with great joy. Last night, Wade Phillips, defensive coordinator, we will talk about him in just a moment, but he pointed to something that his dad, the late great bub phillips, nfl coach said, that this year, this season, proved you can have fun and still win at the same time. Yes. And that is what i love they are confident. They are not cocky. They have played with joy. They have played with enthusiasm. There are very, very good teams in this league that win with a scowl. Denver broncos dont win with a scowl. No. No. They have such quiet confidence and they really truly believed they were only as good as the guy next to them. And you look at even the super bowl, everybody kept saying, oh, you know, sadly, they are the underdog, and they were smiling, it wasnt like they stood there, when they talked about that infamous chip on the shoulder, it wasnt that. It was sort of like, well lets just see. Lets see, you know. We will see how this one works out. And that defense, all of the talk, how good are they . Are they good enough to keep a struggling offensive team in contention . How good are they . But it wasnt until season end that you heard them say brandon marshall, we are the best of all time. And it is tough to compare them to anybody else. I mean it really is, when you look at all of the great defenses, and the talk that defenses win championships, seattles defense, and how they defeated us in the past, and all these things that come together, and they did it. They managed to come together. And in some respects, with names, that we didnt know that much about certain players. We did know about von miller. We didnt know that much about Derrick Walsh a couple two three years ago. Or Malik Jackson and how they together, it is about the synergy that they formed. The stage is set for a magical moment for this city and this state. Crowds are lining broadway and the rest of the parade route. The broncos are getting in place for their victory parade. To end here at the steps of the denver city and county building. Crowd of hundreds of thousands. High. This crowd began gathering at 5 00 a. M. They have been at a full throated roar since then. I dont know what else they will have, but we will hear them empty the tank. And take a look at a picture perfect postcard day. Awesome. Denver chamber, put it on a poster. Exactly. The rest of the country is is looking at our city, and i am sure they will have a beautiful shot of the Rocky Mountains and they will say yeah, i get it, i get it why People Choose to move there and why this is such a great place. That game against the patriots, earlier in the season, in that snowstorm, in late november, i mean that was beautiful for our state, too. And of course, our ski resorts were jumping up and down over that. But we have so many picture perfect games in peoples memories as well. From the season. Sky 9 gives you one idea of gathered here to greet the broncos at civic center park. You are looking back up toward the capitol building. The fans are up the steps of the capitol. They are on the balcony of the second floor of the capitol, watching. It is just truly a spectacular day out here. There is susie, our good friend, she is coemceeing the rally at 1 00. We will turn things over to susie, and to dave logan and to ed mccarve ry, the radio team, at 1 00, and they will be in charge of the party to follow here, along broncos parkway. And we know theyve got a few surprises up their sleeve. You never know what order they will introduce everybody. And they do give them the freedom to take as much time as they would like to say what they want to say. So we cant wait. When that happens. Lets listen in to ed talking about seeing a crowd of this size. We have been waiting a long time to get back here. For the players, it is a dream come true. These guys, thought about playing in the nfl when they were kids, dreams of maybe some day being in the super bowl. And a lot of great players. Never end up getting to celebrate with their team as world champions. These guys are probably working on very little sleep. We heard Peyton Manning was going to go out and have a few root beers. Hopefully these guys will still have a little bit of energy. I know they will when they see all of you guys out here making some noise. So ed, i want to ask you, since youve been at a couple of these, super bowl xxxii and super bowl xxxiii, do you remember a crowd like this, for those . We had a lot of people out there for those super bowls but i think we have a few more today. Broncos country has grown more and more broncos fans. Every single year. Thank you for coming out. So when you think back on the super bowl xxxii and super bowl xxxiii, a little bit like super bowl50, underdogs in that game against the Green Bay Packers and more decisive underdogs than the broncos in santa clara, but just talk about the mind set of the team as were you getting ready to play and ultimately beat the packers. The teams that we won that won super bowl xxxii and super bowl xxxiii were very similar to this team in a lot of ways. Remember, they werent giving us too much of a chance to beat the packers. You guys remember that. Underdogs. The line of questioning was Something Like how do you think you can keep the game close. I remember coach shanahan and coach kubiak was on that staff and a lot of the assistants and they said just keep your mouths shut. On getting ready for this game. Even Shannon Sharpe bit his tongue for two weeks. I dont know how he did it. But we came out prepared and ready to play. And i look back at those teams, and we see an aging quarterback, in john elway, who had played his whole career, hoping to one day raise that trophy over his head, and he found a way to do it. This time around, it was Peyton Manning. But the one Common Thread was that both of those teams were about team. Great. There was a lot of talent. But a lot of players out there are willing to check their egos at the door. To make sacrifices. To play hard for each other. And to do whatever they had to do to find a way to win. That is the Common Thread. And we are so happy that they were finally, after 17 years, able to put a Team Together that was able to find a way to get it done. You know, another common family, throughout all of this and you all heard what john elway said after super bowl50, can we get some chants for pat. Pat bowlen is the best owner in the nfl. None of this would be happening without the bowlen family. Pat, pat, pat family. Last question. You guys, not only won 32, but you won 33, and i know a bunnen of of people out here, while celebrating and i know a lot of people out here, while celebrating the championship after today, they will Start Talking about super bowl li. You guys got it done. You repeated. How difficult is it to come endure . You guys probably remember, it started out back in top on one of the fire trucks. Truck number nine. Im sitting here with shaq barrett. How cool is it to go through the parade and also share it with your family. Im happy to have my family out there. And it is so great. And the coaches. Im happy to share it with them guys. How cool is it to wear that hat, the super bowl champion hat, and you got the afc championship before, a pretty cool hat, but this is what it is all about, isnt it, shaq . Definitely all about super bowl50 and getting the job done. Planning. And participating. And wanting to win. And showing everybody we are the best team in the nfl and the best defense in the nfl. Has it sunk in . What has it been like the last 2448 hours. It kind of sunk in. I still have some work in. It is not all the way in. But it is fun people sending members and the people got to come out. Experience with me. She had been through a lot with through it together. And we are getting ready for the parade sounds. The parade, the fire trucks. The police to the side. Going back and forth. What is the best part . Was it the moment afterwards . When is the moment that it was like wow, we are the best in the world . Once we got, von got it down in our own territory, and tj scooped it up, thats when it set in that we are going to win this and putting ourselves in position to be the super bowl champs. Thats when it started to sink in. And it started feeling good instantly. You have a team that has Peyton Manning on it and usually, 2013, it was all about the quarterback and this season, this team, all about the defense and you being a key part of the defense. I would assume it makes it even more special for you shaq . To have the defense and the special teams, it was a big wherever needed and they trusted me enough to be able to put me out there and i was able to get some of the work done out there. And any nfl city im sure would be great to win a championship but the fact you went to college at Colorado State and now a super bowl championship for the city, how does it make you feel . It feels really good. And i had a lot of a support system in fort collins. And i wasnt able to do that much at Colorado State but going to the next level, im happy to bring the whole state some glory and some pride. And vacation starts tomorrow officially. Any big plans for the family . Me and my wife are going somewhere. Me and the kids. The whole family went over the bye week. And for a wedding. A late wedding, honeymoon type thing. And we and my wife together. And it is a long season. Short offseason for you, but thats why you play the game, correct . Yes. If we had this every year, i wouldnt mind it at all. What i love that i see today is the Younger Generation, all of the kids that werent able to watch the super bowl championship in the 90s, and they heard all of us older folks talk about them, the teams, our favorite players, and now, a Younger Generation gets to watch their favorite players, and their favorite team, and celebrate. This is a win for the broncos. For colorado. And for broncos fans. Across the globe. Hey, one last thing, before we get ready for the parade. How many here with a show of hands, and a yell, how many of you got a chance to go out to super bowl50 . Quite a few. I will tell you this. There were so many orange jerseys at levi stadium in santa clara, it was unlike any super bowl that i had seen before. It clearly was a Home Field Advantage for the broncos. They played that way. And for those who got a chance proud of that. Absolutely. Crowd there. In santa clara. It was fantastic. And hey, while were still waiting for everybody to get on board, all of the vehicle, and the fire trucks, we have about 10 minutes before the parade starts, we will entertain you with a little bit of music. But before we do that, now that we have many more people here. Should we do another Denver Broncos chant . We will say denver. You say broncos denver . Nice job. 10 more minutes, we will get the parade started and you can watch it on the big screen, too. Hang out and enjoy. The world champs are coming here soon, i promise. They talked about the three pete that didnt happen back in the day. Here we go. We saw rod mackey out there and they are coming down. Ed has four boys. Two of them werent around. Oh, yes. Two of them were not around when he won the super bowl. So this is it. How many mccaffrey boy does you think we could have on the broncos roster at one time . Two or lee. I dont want to be greedy but it only seems fair that we could have two maybe. Why not. We will take them. Absolutely. So a moment ago, you saw that shot from sky 9. As soon as the broncos approach, one of the on the ground cameras, we will take you down there. I got something that beats that. Rod mackey, alongside, on board. Hey, guys. Were sitting up here. The denver chop house is where were passing now. And the fans are getting thicker and thicker as we go. Going crazy. Everyone. This is great stuff. We also got lerentee mccray. We have the barricades here now. And now the fans, the crowd goes nut. And not only do you have all of the fans filming the players but most of the guys up here have their selfie sticks and they have their cell phones. Shaqs wife getting some shots. And lerentt getting some shots. Documenting it. Yes the broncos won three of these things but you dont know when it will happen again and they are soaking it all in. Fantastic stuff. Right there. Von miller. Out front. Sartorial splendor who has given us so much in that accident. I love his hat. Always the wonderful hats. And von miller. And anabel bowlen. Holding up the lombardi trophy. Manning. Along with demarcus ware. And they are precious. The kids. I nomar shale has been to quite a few of i know, marshall has been to quite a few of the practices. And they are getting to experience this with dad. We have to remember, that for so many of these players there is joe ellis in the passenger seat of the fire truck. That for so many of these players, Peyton Manning, won a super bowl, won a super bowl mvp, and for other players, their chance to come here, it was for this moment. Yes. A number of them could have made more money some place else. Could have lived some place where it never snows. But they wanted to come here and be a part of something special. Yes. And it is their day. Yes. Associated with the team, like Wade Phillips, i think Wade Phillips is my favorite denver bronco. You cant but love him. You want to hug him. That guy has been around the league forever. But with some good but not great teams. Buffalo bills teams that nearly put something together. Some bad teams wearing some of the cowboys jersey, some of those years were ugly but it didnt get the man down. He does his job and just enjoys life with such enthusiasm. I am so happy for Wade Phillips that he gets his wing. You cant forget his time in denver and then leaving town. And Wade Phillips understands that you can win and have fun at the same time. You point that out. He lived kind of in his dads shadow for a long time, too. But gary kubiak, i mean gary lows of coaching as well. And the mini stroke he suffered a year ago. That was pretty humbling, too, a couple of years ago. Look at this. We cant help but compare this moment to the broncos last super bowl. Yes. Union station. Oh, yes. Think of what that place has become. Union station was like where the turn came, and that was it. And now, i mean that place is beautiful. You know, thanks to Dana Crawford who has a name on the hotel and so plane people who have revitalized that landmark. Cant help but think about that when you have the broncos on the fire truck. Derrick wolf. Front and center. Another guy, who is starting to kind of find his voice. We knew he would be a special player. But you remember, these folks come to us after college. Sometimes, you know, they are young guys, and they are not professional speakers. And they are learning how to lead. And derek wolfe is coming along. And we are so glad he made a that is cj anderson. I love the story of tom brady going to cj anderson and keep running like you did and you are an undrafted kid that made it, and are you going to have a long career in this league. I love that. He has really proved a lot of critics wrong. I love the guys who have to prove it. Not that anybody gets anything handed to them in this league, other than maybe an initial contract but cj anderson is one who battled and knows the feeling when cut day is coming, and preparing on the roster pre season and he has been on both ends of those decisions. So for him to reach the top, it is a special moment. Cj, thanks for the touchdown i about the way. We hope to be the first Super Bowl Winning Team without a touchdown. Thank goodness. They get beat up so badly. Those are the ones that you say, i hope they rest their body here for a little while. Because those running backs, they get it. Time to rest, and in this brief, really brief offseason because we talked about it, their training really begins in so many ways in a matter of weeks. Next year. And you just never know. You never know if you are going to be healthy. You dont know if you are going to gel with the team. It is so nice to see all of them. Rob mackey on the fire truck. How about that . And there is cj. Listen to the crowd. And they are seeing, brock, too. And he is loving this. That is so neat. Big cheer for number 17. Here at the civic center park. Screen. I hope he has his moment on the building. I think he will. Because this crowds wants to salute him so badly. He is so tall. He is such a big guy. When you see him. And you know, i know hes got his arizona ties, and john elway has always been a fan. He always knew that he liked him. He liked his style. We mentioned this during the 11 00 hour. It bears repeating with the number of people who have joined us with the parade here on 9 news and www. 9news. Com. So much of this season, broncos fans thought, boy, we are going to have to choose, if only, you know, in my head and heart, between brock and peyton. Yes. How do you choose . And coach kubiak did have to actually choose. And he made some tough decisions. He did not make easy or popular calls. But the fact is, folks, we dont have to choose. No. Peyton manning has the opportunity, which most people think he will avail himself of, to leave the game at its absolute pinnacle, so few players have done that, and john elway, jerome bettis, brown, left at the top of his personal game, but Peyton Manning, if he does that, hopefully we can convince brock to stick around, because he did such a great job this year. And he is a work in progress. And you can tell, he is so dedicated to the craft of and you know, they always say, give me reps, give me a chance, and they are both competitive people. They both wanted back in that game all the time when they werent in the game. But i think of the day when john elway announced his retirement, and he knew, i mean he knew he was ready, but boy, is it a tough day, he was so emotional. You are never really ready. There is Britton Colquitt and Brandon Mcmanus. I see them every year at the Downs Syndrome foundation. They are phenomenal. We need them. The kicker is the guy that if it doesnt go your way, and it didnt happen for the panthers, i felt terrible, i always feel badly. You always feel bad. Yes. And mcmanus had that one tough kick that could have ended the game. But we still won. But so many clutch moments this year for us, as we are taking a family there on that ride. But Brandon Mcmanus came into camp not knowing if he would be with the broncos this year. It could have been connor. And brandon a great guy to talk to and follow twitter him on twitter. A funny dude. I know he will have some good stuff today. All of them will. But it will be good stuff. There is your difference from the last parade. All of the players there. Yes. Snapping photos from their phones. Were you talking about the big old school camcorders. And people were rocking at the last parade. Yes. And now, if youre not there, all you have to do is get on instagram, snap chat, and twitter, and find out what they are doing, too. It is just completely different. This is such a neat moment, too, for denver fire, and the other fire departments, and districts that are able to participate in this parade. We cant forget what they do, to keep fans safe. Every sunday of the season. Never mind the other days. Yes. But every sunday of the piece of this pie, it is very cool as well. Yes. And the fans, we are seeing them from outside the window, the office buildings, along the way. And watching and soaking it in. Because theyve got a long Little Journey to head on down. So fun to see. Every single one of them. They do have to be a little bit tired. But they are not showing it right now. This is it. This is what you dream of. And it goes without saying, this is not a moment that happens because of any player or any play, any game, or really as much as, you know, this is super bowl50, the seeds were planned years ago. Yes. You think of the decisions that mr. B made, when he decided that coach shanahan was no longer the right choice. That must have been a tough choice for him. Respect that he had for mike shanahan. And to say thank you for everything that have you done, but we are going to try something else. He brings in john fox. And john fox, by the standards of the nfl, a heck of a guy, but thats not the standard here. The standard here is super bowl. And then john elway talked about that. He really liked him. What was not to like about john fox. Very likeable guy. He didnt have that rex ryan persona about him. Very likeable person. But it wasnt working the way that he felt it should be working. So joe ellis and john elway, with the blessing of the bowlen family, decided to move forward. And they moved forward by going way back to the old backup, bringing kubiak back. Could you imagine what it was like in the hotel room when elway and kubiak were roommates what do they talk about . Talk a lot. Talk about the game. And now, how that relationship the years. So we see the cheerleaders, you know, everybody just thinks oh, gosh, you know, beautiful women, that know how to dance, they all have real jobs, they work for a living. And put a lot of long hours. Addition. And every community service, good grief, this were at all of the magnet giveaways. They work hard. So lets give them a shoutout too as well. Did we run out of fire trucks . I dont know. We moved to pickups . They did have a couple of pickups in there. As we watch from sky 9, as the broncos parade moves through town, we will bring some ground level shots when they approach our cameras and our crews there down below.
