Reporter the camp is run by guide dogs for the blind in san rafael for the teenages relying on the dog takes some getting used to. Theyre used to walking with canes. This teen came here from dallas. With the cane, you walk, but can still hit things. With the guide dog, it avoid things, and will guide you through obstacles. Reporter the director has used guide dogs for more than 20 years. Having a guide dog is a 4 hour a day, 7 day commitment. A huge decision for people to make. We like to get kids kind of introduced to the lifestyle early, you know, so they can start preparing. Reporter it takes 12 weeks to train and transform a dog like arnie into a guide dog. It takes two weeks for a person to learn how to work with the guide dog. The students said they had to remember the commands. But the students say the dogs bring an added fringe benefit, unconditional love. Good boy, buddy it would be really cool just to have like a partner, you know, and just like going through life with like two people anniversary just like, you know, alone. Its different.
