Highway101 from buehrleing burlingame to san mateo are going to be closed down. Debora villalon is live where crews are starting a new round of repairs, deb. Reporter heather its a high wire act and crews are just getting started. You can see crews half way up there getting into position. Its the first time in three days 101 on the peninsula has been closed but at least this time its planned. A piece of the mangled transmission tower knocked down friday night. The tower is long gone to a pg e yard. Two wooden poles are ready to stand in for it but that requires uses these ropes to pull high power lines, but to do that repairs have to be done and a freeway closed. We want to make sure we do the work at a time thats less impactful to our residents. Reporter theres nothing its hard to think of someing more impactful than fireworks. Its affecting many people throughout the peninsula. People who work here, people who live here, all our surrounding communities. Reporter people have been doing what theyve been doing all weekend, jumping on another routs. There havent be any blackouts and no outages are expected. This was such a potential catastrophic event and were really so fortunate. Reporter the crew chief looks at the volt line that is felt and is grateful only a few cars were damaged and no one electrocuted. People were in their cars for several hours before they could be safely removed. Reporter no one jumped out. No one jumped out. Reporter it was a caltrans contractor working on a new overpass who plowed his excavator into the tower. Embarrassing and costly. We will work with the subcontractor, we will do an investigation and determine how to work with that. Reporter will they have to pay. We will be working with them to see how that will work out. Reporter this is pain staking work with a thread of wires all around. This arrangement with the two wooden poles isnt permanent. A new electrical power will have to go up here at some point. That too will require a 101 closure but theres no timetable for that yet. So again, highway 101 between burlingame and san mateo is in the process of shutting downright now. A major closure happening there on the peninsula. Deb, thank you. The number of san quentin enmates with legionares disease has grown to six. Five more inmates are being treated for the illness. That after the recovery of a sick inmate on wednesday. 51 other inmates also have symptoms. Prison officials are trying to control the situation by limiting water, bringing in boxed meals, and suspending inmate visiting. South San Francisco police shot and wounded a man they say pointed a rifle at an officer. The incident happened when someone reported seeing a man with a gun near del monte and romney avenues around 9 30 this morning. An officer responded an ordered the man to drop the weapon but instead they say he moved forward the officer with that rifle in his hand. A neighbor who did not want to be identified describes what he saw. Police officers said get on the ground. Get on the ground. Drop the weapon, drop the weapon, get on the ground. Pop, he kept walking toward the Police Officers and they shot him once. When it was over, i said im glad the Police Officers had the courage to do what they did. Reporter that suspect has not been identified. He remains in the hospital tonight. The extent of his injuries are not known. Deputies are investigating what they say is a gang related homicide in halfmoon bay. A man in his 20s was gunned down in front of a home on oak avenue around 8 30 last night. They believe it happened after some sort of confrontation involving at least two suspects. Theres no word yet of any arrests. Police in oakland are combing through evidence after officers responded to six shootings last night and early this morning one of which was deadly. The violence was centered mainly in west and east oakland. Automaker all of the shootings happened within a 3 1 2 hour time span. Another victim a 29yearold mother was shot and killed during an attempted robbery. Ktvus Noelle Walker talked to some in fact, community on what could be done to try to curve the violence. Reporter people who live in this east oakland neighborhood keep an eye out for one another. But saturday night they could not stop a would be robber from shooting and killing the mother of a 2year old girl as she got into a car in front of her home on the way to a concert in the city. Crazy, where are we going. Reporter neighbor houston walked outside his home and saw the tale tell signs of police car lights. Then he found out his neighbor had been shot dead. There has to be something better. People cant just go around shooting and killing each other. There has to be. Reporter the victim 29year old Jessica Anderson drove about a half a mile from the shooting to the corner of avanof and hancroft. This is where she died. A neighbor shot this video. She said the person in the car was yelling for someone to call 911. When you have three shootings on one night, it has to stop. Reporter theres joy in the service at axeful gospel but theres an under current. A frustration. We have so many killings in oakland it just has to stop. It has to stop. We need to do something beforehand, before it gets to the point of young people losing their lives and so we just have to get fed up and say that its time for us to change. Reporter this was oaklands 60th homicide this year but a neighbor points out a number doesnt explain what was lost. Now you have a child without a mother. A twoyearold child and thats just a sad thing. Police and Crime Stoppers are offering a 20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a gunman in that deadly shooting. Theres also a 5,000 reward being offered for information in any of the other shootings where someone was listed wounded. Noelle walker. Palo alto police are looking for a man who exposed himself to a woman driving away from a Downtown Parking garage. The incident happened on friday just before 10 00 p. M. About two blocks south of city parking garage r on high street. Police say the woman stopped to program her gps when the man knocked on her window and pulled down his pants. The victim is described as a male in his 20s with a medium built and medium length brown hair. That 62yearold hiker we first told you about last night who was lost in the sierra for nine days is recovering tonight from surgery for a broken leg. As she continues to recooperate, those who brought her to safety are talking about the rescue. I heard a whistle and at first thought i couldnt believe my ears. Then i heard it again. Reporter thats 15yearold coby cole. He was the first to hear mayuki harwoods distress whistle yesterday. Harwood was in a canyon. It took rescuers 10 minutes before they saw her head pop up in the distance. She was happy to see us as we were happy to see her. She was a bit emotional when we first arrived on the scene. I was a little emotional because it was a really important thing for us to have found her. Extremely grateful to finally have been found. Theres no words to express how your presence can change someones life in an instant. Harwood was separated from her hiking group back on august 20th. Despite having that broken leg, she was able to crawl to a creek where she used the filter to drink. A heros welcome as a young man credited for helping foiled a terror attack in france returns home. Anthony sadlers family and friends say theyre thankful to have him back. Reporter it was a morning filled with music, praise and gratitude. Even though police here now have a suspect in custody, what they dont have is a motive. A motive for gunning down a texas deputy who was simply putting gas in his patrol car. Its an act of cowardness and brutality, one that i have never seen before. I have been in Law Enforcement 45 years and i do not recall another incident this coldblooded and cowardly. Reporter shannon miles is thesuspect, the 31yearold has a long criminal record. He lived just blocks from the gas station where Deputy Goforth took his last breath. We heard black lives matter, all lives matter. Well cops lives matter too. So why dont we just drop the qualitier and just say lives matter. Reporter miles will have his First Court Appearance on monday before a judge. Still some patchy fog near parts of the shoreline and those readings only in the 60s. So heres the plan for your monday for the Morning Hours you can expect areas of fog near the coast and near the bay. And then partly sunny skies more sunshine inland. Still patchy overcast right near the immediate coastline. The temperature 55 to 60 degrees by 4 00 that temperature range expands. Well go with mid60s for the beaches. 70s around the bay. 80s inland and as we showed you the warmest locations will be approaching 90 degrees by 4 00 tomorrow afternoon. Allie rasmus was at the livermore airport where the unit spent the weekend preparing for the worse. This is a cessna 182 ill be sitting here in the pilot seat. Reporter theyre doing a test to make sure their skills and equipment are in top shape. The semilated the disaster, an earthquake in the bay area. The camera will take picture at interval and we fly the airplane at a specific speed and specific altitude. This gives us a panorama. Reporter this is what those photos look like. This is over the Alameda Naval base. The pictures allow, especially fema to determine and analyze the disaster and damage that has occurred. Reporter the plane has these special window windows so the photographer can take the pictures from outside without getting a glare. The photographers, pilots and all the people organizing this Training Exercise are volunteers. We do it because i think primarily we just have a love for the area we live in. The pacific much difficult different story weve been tracking two systems on either side of hawaii. Heres a closer look at the systems right now. We have the category four thats category jimena and category three thats ignacio closest to the islands. And hurricane kilo will continue to move out to sea. Heres a closer look right now. Hurricane jimena category four system. Winds of 150 Miles Per Hour. Theres the track lets keep an eye on this for next week for wednesday. For this week, for wednesday and into thursday. But along this track it should weaken. Now heres the latest on hurricane ignacio this has been weakening and the latest forecast pretty consistent in pushing this storm to the north of the islands. Lets keep an eye on all of these systems. Taking a look outside out toward the bay bridge. We have mostly clear skies right now. Patchy fog trying to regroup right near the immediate coastline. And that will be a factor in our forecast first thing tomorrow morning. For tonight partly cloudy skies, fog developing. Tomorrow itll be mild to warm. And in the extends forecast a sun cloud mix will be cooling things down over the next few days but then just in time for the weekend the Labor Day Weekend temperatures will be trending back up. Overnight lows first thing tomorrow morning were thinking lots of 50s to right around 60 degrees out there to start out your monday morning. Partly cloudy skies. We could be tracking some drizzle for Tuesday Morning possibly into wednesday morning. And then the last forecast models in a few minutes ago and bumping up those numbers for the weekend. A bay area woman fell to her death while hiking in big sur this weekend. 20yearold medina f era s was climbing down a cliff friday afternoon when she slipped and fell into the ocean. They say she was hiking in that area without the proper clothing or equipment. Her body was recovered. The preliminary cause of death is listed as drowning. For the first time in several years, Richmond Police are responding an increase in climbing crime. Thats twice as many as this time last year. Robberies are up 21 from 2014. Officials say many of the crimes are gang related. They also blame the spike of crime offenders to changes of crimes from felony to misdemeanors. Ktvus keba arnold sat down with a sergeant to discuss this cold case in this weeks edition of crime files. Reporter were joined by Sergeant Gina johansson. Youre here to talk to us about a case of the beating death of a an elderly woman. In the Early Morning hours, we believe sometime between 4 30 and 5 00, q uan was out walking for her morning walk. Would normally start from her apartment and go down to Central Avenue by nations burgers and walk back up. Sometime approximately 4 30ish, she was assaulted. Basically jumped, severely severely beaten. And then sexually assaulted. And this happened at the big o tires on san pablo avenue. It was very, very dark at the time. And then she was left in one of the i believe it was the owner of big o tire found her at about 9 00 that morning. Such a horrific crime. This elderly woman she didnt die that day. She spent the next few months of her life in the hospital. She did. Yeah. She sustained severe injuries. Brain injury, i mean this beating was so brutal that she lost quite a few teeth. It was very horrific physical assault in addition to the sexual assault. She was immediately transported to john muir hospital that morning where she was held for quite some time and she went to a couple of different rehab facilities, one in marin county and then to walnut creek to a rehabilitation facility where ultimately she died july 21st of that year. How can our viewers help solve this case. I know you had a chance to interview her before she passed but with the brain injuries it may have been difficult. It was very challenging in terms of getting a comprehensive statement from her. We were able to get a statement to the best that she was able to provide at the time. And then six months later we attempted again. At this point with this case, what we really need from the public is its my opinion that theres somebody out there who has information. Kind of either heard it through the grapevine or something to that effect. We would love for people to just call. They can call 5106206616. They can remain anonymous if they wish. This is one of the cases, i dont think you need to be concerned about retaliatory kind of thing. But we really need to reach out to the public and hope someone can come forward with information. That means his vital signs are unstable. And he may be unconscious and his prognosis is uncertain. The first time Something Like that has happened here. The school is pretty calm. Reporter 20 miles away, mario daire recalls how busy the school was friday night for the Football Game versus foothill high school. It was a very busy night. Cars parked all over the place. After a woman says that she saw something beneath her and saw it was a shark. She pushed the board toward the shark as she jumped off. The surfer was not hurt.
