Tonight the police chief posted a meeting. Reporter were told the man moved here from danbury connecticut to pursue some new opportunities, but according to those three suicidal notes something happened. It was in a dark place, so hope faded, and then he orchestrated his killing. A church can provide compassion for those proceeds by suicidal thoughts. Tonight, this church in San Franciscos Mission district was used to provide details of a suicide. A sympathetic chief described the shooting of matthew hoffman. He said hoffman confronted police in the Mission Parking lot and was asked to leave. Instead, he turned and faced the officers. The officers see a but of a gun, he pulls the weapon cobb pointed at the officers. The two sgts. Fire their weapons 10 times. Reporter the weapon turned out to be a pellet gun, is bright orange markings covered. The sergeants were forced to pull a trigger on a man who they thought had a real gun. They are secondguessing themselves. Should the have seen something they each didnt see . They navigated a lifeanddeath situation and then find out its not a real gun. Reporter hours before the shooting, hoffman approached the officers asking about their weapons and ammunition. Audit encounters, the chief said , that didnt raise suspicion. It wasnt until after the shooting and a check of his cell phone that they connected the dots. Three suicide notes including one addressed to the officers saying they did nothing wrong, that they ended the life who was too much of a coward to do it himself. This is really hard on the cops. You have been in a lifeand death situation, and you survived. Then you find out that you took somebodys life mr. Hoffman is not a criminal, but he planned this whole thing. Now the officers have to live with the fact that they took somebodys life. Its hard on them. Reporter critics at tonights meeting questioned whether there was another way to handle this, but the chief insisted there wasnt. He also detailed this alert from officials in connecticut. An officer there received disturbing texts from hoffman back in february. He asked them what would happen if he pointed a fake gun and a cop . A neighbor tells me a couple has lived here for years. Investigators say one son has a record. They researched the residence and found that the owners son is on probation. Reporter they found and removed items such as grow lights and equipment used to make honey oil, a derivative of marijuana. Similar but more potent than hash oil. They use butane tanks, and that butane is what is hazardous. That is why the hazmat was called out. Reporter police say they arrested 31yearold Ahmad Suleman who was home alone. He is accused of running a drug lab in the garage. The devices were fairly sophisticated. There were quite a few. I would consider this a sophisticated operation. Reporter police say they did not recover firearms nor was there a large amount of cash. We did see investigators removed items including an oven. Its quite alarming. Reporter police say suleman is being held at the jail where there will be no bail because they say he violated probation. Police are not say why he is on probation. A doctor was shot and killed today at a Military Hospital in texas. Reports of an active shooter at the va facility caused tense moments, but in the end, the gunmen killed himself. The shooting happened this afternoon at fort bliss in el paso. The military hasnt identified the doctor or the gunmen. The shooting triggered a lockdown.
