Well have more on the later newscasts. A leaky container at a gas company made for tense moments. There was never any threat to People Living or working nearby. However, the workers here at mathy son gas had to be evacuated because of a container carrying an explosion chemical was leaking. Firefighters could be seen in protective suits as they worked. The leaking cylinder was carrying a chemical that was diluted. A sensor alarm went off around 7 00 at this business on central avenue. That alerted the employees to this leak. Firefighters worked alongside the companys Hazardous Materials team to move the leaking container to a special unit where it was safely drained. It was a slow process that took several hours. There was never any danger to our employees on site or any one off site or the environment during this whole team but we want to keep it that way. We have ongoing training and requirements according to the standards but our hazmat team is well trained and well versed. Reporter the chemical that was leaking is used by various Tech Companies in this area to manufacture semiconductors. A mathison representative said this kind of leak is a rare occurrence. When an emergency like this happens, they do take every precaution. Thats why the Fire Department as Hazardous Materials team was called in this morning to help out. A father and son are now dead and many questions remain. Janine de la vega joins us live from san jose where she recently spoke to police and got an update. Good afternoon, janine. Reporter good afternoon, tori. No arrests have been made. Detectives are working to identify those responsible. Police believe that there may be two people who are involved. A father and a son were found dead inside this home off rancho highway atd around 9 00 last name. Police are trying to figure out who shot them and why. Were trying to figure out. Its awful that someone went in there and did that. Reporter police had the neighborhood cordoned off for eight hours so they could canvass the area and collect evidence. A woman was injured in the shooting and taken to the hospital for treatment. Were told she was the sons give. Her injuries are not major. Detectives are interviewing her. She may prove to be key in solving this case. I feel sorry for the family. Something must have happened to get something. Something has to happen. Reporter authorities are not revealing whether or not someone forced their way into the home but Police Sources tell us at the time the shooting does not appear to be random. The house is known to law enforcement. Theyve been called to that address in the past. Degetives are looking into detectives are looking into that history to see if they can help with the investigation. Police living nearby say theres Gang Activity in the neighborhood. As far as that playing part in the shooting its too early to tell that or if theres other motives or circumstances. Thats something we always look at and typically that doesnt happen until much further in the identification. Once we have a suspect identified, then we can put all of that together. Reporter detectives are still trying to develop concrete leads. Family members were allowed back inside the home earlier this morning when police wrapped up interest investigation. Thank you, janine. San jose police are investigating a deadly crash involving a car and a man trying to walk across the street. It happened around 12 30 on tully and lanai avenue in east san jose. Police say the man was not in the crosswalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car did stop and is cooperating with investigators. Police say it does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident. Tully road is open this noontime. Police had shut it down until 6 30 this morning while they investigated. A bicyclist was taken to the hospital this morning after a collision with a vehicle in fremont. It happened just before 8 00 a. M. On westbound stevenson boulevard near interstate 880. Its not yet known how seriously the bicyclist was injured. Police are investigating the accident and theres no word on whether any citations have been issued. In developing news, an Algerian Group affiliated with the Islamic States released a video showing the beheading of a french hiker. They posted a video yesterday on social media showing the 55 yearold Mountain Guides kidnapping on sunday and threatened his death if the french failed to cancel planned airstrikes on the terror group. Stewart has returned to nascar since the deadly incident. Walnut creek Police Continue to look for the suspect in a daring midday kidnapping and robbery. Reporter that what has many resident and workers disturbed, that a suspected robber and kidnapper took a woman by gunpoint as she was standing in front of her walnut creek home. Reporter just before noon, Walnut Creek Police say a man with a gun confronted the woman at her home on the 400 block of muller road. He told her to get in her car and drive together to this bank of America Branch off north main. The man stood out side while the victim was told to go inside and withdraw money. Were still looking into whether he was alone or had an accomplice. Were looking at whether or not he left in a vehicle or on foot. Were looking at this point for any video in the area. Reporter the woman did not tell the woman she was a victim of police, according to police a victim of a crime, according to police. Its very surprising that you would be at your home in broad daylight and you think when you are at your home you are most safe and for someone, you know, to come up and hold you awpt hold you at gunpoint is very disturbing. Reporter police are initially saying the suspect is a white or hispanic man who was wearing a straw hat, sunglasses and something covering his face. Police say after the story aired during the 5 00 news, they received several calls of the man fitting that description. And today, a bank manager here couldnt talk to us on camera but they say a Security Guard was hired today as a result of the kidnapping and alleged robbery that took place yesterday. Police also say they are combing through Surveillance Video camera footage provided by the bank and they are asking residents along lakewood road to provide any surveillance cam chew footage camera footage to help in the investigation. A few students showed up but quickly left. The issue began yesterday when staffers called pg e about an odor in the performing arts center. Pg e checked and gave the all clear. But hours later, staffers noticed the gas odor elsewhere in the store. Pg e shut down a good sized gas line. Some students did not seem to mine the unexpected holiday. I didnt know what happened. It was surprising that something happened like that. Like at the last minute. The safety, the, you know, health of our student are our paramount. We want to make sure they are safe and that we can get what needs to be done and welcome them back to campus. Police in four bay area cities are working together to investigate car burglaries at dealerships. The thefts have taken place at highend dealerships in san mateo, belmont, san jose and santa clara. Already police have arrested two oakland men. 18yearold halsey and marquise banks accused of stealing cars from two san mateo dealerships. Police used this Surveillance Video from tracks auto in san mateo to make the arrest. The general manager of tracks, who did not want to be identified, said the car thefts have hurt his business. Its pretty much destroyed the way we do business here, you know, its probably gonna take a few more months for us to recuperate. Recuperate. Police say six cars stolen from audubon motors and two from the lots in san mateo were recovered in oakland near where the suspects were arrested. They are now working to see if all of the cases are connected. Investigators say they expect to make more arrests. Scientists at uc davis are testing eight suspicious meatballs found at a popular dog park in santa rosa. One dog owner discovered a meatball saturday morning at a park called a place to play. He said it had raw meat with green flex in it and he was suspicious because its just not something you see at a dog park. I was very upset. Some Business Owners in burlingame are calling on the city to lift the moratorium on new restaurants along broadway. The current ban limits the number of restaurants on the busy street to just 28 but many Broadway Merchants say the 30 yearold moratorium which was meant to keep a bal pans between restaurants and Retail Stores is actually hurting business and making people look for other places to dine out. The city Council Plans to preview the complaints at next months meeting. The king foyer is still growing in size. But firefighters are also making progress in containment. Overnight, the wildfire grew from 89,500 acres to nearly 93,000 acres. Its now 38 contained. 2,000 additional firefighters have been brought in to help fight the fire because gusty winds and low humidity have caused flairups. So far the fire has destroyed a dozen homes and 56 other buildings. Were at the mercy of mother nature.
