Alameda county sheriffs deputies announced the arrest just a short time ago. Ktvus alex savidge was there and joins us live with what led deputies to the suspects and what the victims family said today at the announcement. Good afternoon, alex. Reporter well, good afternoon. The victims family has waited a lon time for this. They tell me they never gave up hope. Its been more than two decades in this case. Its been a lot of frustration, a lot of despair for this family but they are glad with the work that the cold case detectives have put in, in this case and finally, they say, the man accused of killing their beloved father, the two people accused of killing their beloved father, both behind bars. Were pretty overwhelmed at the moment. Very surreal. Not like something can tell you what to expect when this happens. We waited a long, long time. Reporter thats tammy borha. Shes the victims father. He was found dead in the east bay hills back in 1990. The homicide was originally investigated by the east Bay Regional Parks police. Investigators at the time zeroed in on the victims ex wife, sheryl ann dras, and her lover, william chensey. But the case grew cold and thats when the unit took over. The detectives began to do more interviews and used mod ernd Dna Technology to an modern Dna Technology to analyze some of the evidence and the detectives were able to arrest the two last week for this unsolved murder. A very gratifying thing for them. When you look at a case thats gone unsolved for 23 years and you meet the family and you hear their stories and you learn the devastation its caused in their lives and then you realize that the perpetrators are free and basically got away with this brutal crime , to be able to give closure to the family is uge huge for us. Reporter investigators say the man was killed by his ex wife for financial gain. The two of them were going through a divorce at the time. They were actually living in the same home preparing to sell that place. Both killers have been charged with firstdegree murder with special circumstances. They appeared in court for the first time yesterday and cold case detectives with the Alameda County Sheriffs Office believe these two likely would have got away with this killing if they hadnt taken another look at the case. Five San Francisco firefighters now face possible suspensions regated to allegations that one related to allegations that one firefighter hit a motorcyclist with a ladder truck while driving drunk. Michael quinn was arrested on dui charges after the june 29th crash. Ktvu has learned two assistant chiefs could be suspended for up to ten days along with three other firefighters who were at the crash scene. Three pedestrians have been hit and killed in san jose over the past two days in three different accidents. Police say the rate of auto verses pedestrian accidents is alarming. Well, were here at this high school, a 15yearold girl who was in 9th grade was hit by a car, she was crossing the road. Now, grief counselors are on campus to help her classmates cope. The principal of the high school tells us a freshman girl was leaving her boyfriends house sunday night when she was hit by a car on white road near highland. Later that evening was pronounced deceased. She was kept on life support for the next day. The driver did remain at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. Reporter the teen was not using the crosswalk. Neighbors say this area is a problem. A person was hit in may. You try to cross the street, people just nend not to stop tend not to stop. They just keep going. Kids if they are running late, they cant make it to the crosswalk, they will cotion the street halfway cross the street halfway. Reporter police say a 50 yearold woman who appeared to be a transient was hit and killed by a car on monterey road on san jose avenue. Officers shy we was wearing dash she was wearing dark clothes and did not use the crosswalk. And then a 3yearold as well. We are at 24 pedestrian fatalities. Its high. Were concerned. Were asking drivers to drive cautiously and pedestrians when you are crossing to use caution. Reporter police say they are sper yugessing an eight year high in the number of fatal pedestrian accidents here. They are not sure why the city is experiencing that. In all of the accidents the drivers stopped and are cooperating with police. Alcohol or drugs does not appear to be a factor in any of them. Tonight in fremont, hundreds of people are expected to attend the candlelight vigil to honor a popular teacher and coach. 76yearold john webb was killed over the weekend on interstate 680. The chp says he was trying to direct traffic away from a serious crash when another car hit and killed him. Webb was a longtime teacher and coach at john f. Kennedy high school. The vigil is at 6 00 tonight at the school. Santa cruz police are interviewing a person of interest in the suspicious death of a man found partially clothed this person. A woman walking her dog found the body at 7 00 a. M. On cypress avenue. Police say the man had blood around his neck but they havent said what kind of wound he had or why he was partially clothed. They say its still early in the investigation. Authorities authorities on the peninsula have broken up a trafficking operation in millbrae. Officials from five agencies including the san mateo Sheriffs Office and the department of Homeland Security carried out a stick on friday. Two San Francisco residents were arrested. 31yearold Calvin Williams and 24yearold Gwendolyn Sampson are charged with human trafficking, pimping, and criminal conspiracy. Both are being held on 250,000 bail. Police in the east bay say an argument about money ended today in a shooting and a theft. It happened about 6 30 this morning in hayward at an Apartment Building on b street near center street. Police say an argument broke out between a man visiting the apartment and the man and woman who lived there about money he owed them. Investigators say the man left, came back with an ak47 Assault Rifle and started shooting. No one was hurt. Police say the shooter took an undisclosed amount of cash before he left. Police have not released his name. Theres no word yesterday on whether he is in custody. A San Francisco man is warning others to use Car Sharing Services to be careful after he says he was harassed by his driver. James alba said he used the uber app to get a ride home from a bar in the castro when the incident occurred. He has used uber before but this time the driver was aggressive and made racially degrading comments. I think you are just a dirty mexican [bleep]. You are the worst of it. Uber says the driver has been suspended. In the meantime, alba will use cabs in the future or try another cab service. New information about bryan stow. The Los Angeles Dodgers have filed Court Documents asking the judge if the team is liable for his injuries. The dodgers want the court to decide before it addresses the issues of damage owed to stow. Hes suing the team for his injuries and medical bills. He suffered massive brain trauma and struggles with basic functions. Two San Bernardino men were arrested in connection with the attack. The 61yearold marine credited with saving a womans life at the Oakland Coliseum says he is not a hero. Ktvu news spoke with donnie shortly after he left the hospital yesterday. The stockton man was hurt while breaking the fall of a woman who jumped from the third deck of the Oakland Coliseum after sundays raiders game. He said it was his experience as a marine in vietnam that helped him respond to this life ordeath situation. Had i not done anything and did witness her hitting and the impact, that would have etched in my mind until i died. The woman is in critical condition. Still. Word on why she jumped. Ktvus sal castanedo talked to one woman who heard the shooting and joins us live from Oakland Police headquarters. Good afternoon, sal. Reporter good afternoon. Weve been waiting around to see if Oakland Police will have more information. Weve been calling them as well. We do have some more information about the shooting that left seven people injured. Police received the call of gunshots just after 6 00 p. M. Last night near the corner of 96th and olive. Today, weve confirmed at least one of the victims was an innocent bystander. Two critically injured. This morning, the market was open. You could see damage inside including a bullet hole that came through a displays a display shelf. When the shooting began this woman said she and everyone inside her home took immediate action. We all dropped to the floor. So its like, you know, we dont know where its coming from. We just know its close. We drop on the floor, everybody get down. Went around the house to make sure everybody was okay. Reporter the violence was so bad, she says her little sister canted by her bike down the street cant ride her bike down the street. The Police Showed up with a turkey and this made her feel better. It scared my sister, like the Oakland Police. It was nice. The police are trying to help out the community and stuff like that. Especially with what happened last night. Reporter we have been speaking with Oakland Police off camera. They say they are still working to develop leads and they are still looking for witnesses if anyone saw the shooting. Transit bus is due in route. The attorney for Richard Thomas is trying to block efforts by the prosecution to try his client as an adult. Thomas is accused of setting 18 yearold Sasha Fleishman on fire earlier this month. Fleishman was wearing a skirt and identifies as agender. Were told sasha will be coming home from the hospital tomorrow. Thomas faces a hate charge in addition to other charges. A 49yearold pittsburg man has been identified as the operator who died as the excavator he was working on fell off the barge and into the Sacramento River yesterday. Sheriffs say it took several hours for dive teams to reach Richard Wayne alexander because the excavator became partially buried sideways in several feet of silt 15 feet under the water. No word on why the excavator fell off the barge. A Richmond Group that helped struggling families is handing out food bags. The Bay Area Rescue Mission is distributing 850 food bags to make sure homeless and needy families can enjoy thanksgiving. The director John Anderson says that each bag has enough food to feed 12 to 20 people and that this year the food giveaway has grown larger than it ever has before. Over the years, the number of people that we help has significantly increased. In the last 12 months, the Bay Area Rescue Mission has provided almost 1. 5 million meals. Anderson says the food giveaway will continue in the coming days. But they are still 500 turkeys short of what they need. Donations can be delivered at any time of the bay to the Bay Area Rescue Mission on mcdonald avenue in richmond. People on the east coast are bracing for an early and messy winter storm heading their way. The storm started here on the west coast last week and has listen moving slowly across the country. It dropped snow, rain and sleet in the midwest, Southern Plains and rockies. The storm is expected to hit the northeast coast tonight and tomorrow. Now, this is, of course, expected to be one of the busiest travel weeks of the year and the were could make it a rough one for air travelers tonight and tomorrow. We talked to travelers at sfo today who say they are happy to be flying out ahead of the storm. Im much happier to travel today than tomorrow. The next system will give us a lot of high clouds, kind of cool us down. It looks like a quiet pattern. And then mostly cloudy by thanksgiving for us. But rain down south. Consumer advocates are issuing a warning about dangerous toys that can still be found on store shelves despite new safety laws. Cal per presented the troubled report. The group contained toys that contain toxic substances as well as toys that are so loud they could damage a childs hearing. They warned about toys that could contain small magnets that could easily be swallowed. When a child swallows these two magnets, they can cause internal damage by pinching internal organs. The group showed other toys as well. They are recommending the government change the choking standard to the size of a common item that everyone has at home, a toilet paper role to make it easier for roll to make it easier for parents to make their own judgment about what is safe. San franciscos Market Street is set to flip on the holiday spirit at 6 30 this evening.
