A San Francisco train stalled in the transbay tube for about half an hour. The lead car lost power plunging that car into darkness. Here is a viewers cell phone video. Some passengers said they smelled chemicals during this ordeal. They were smelling brake fuels. This whole experience was an anonmy. Its not something that we expected. They add the delays were compounded by medical emergencies with a medical emergency. John sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. A deadly accident in San Francisco after a big rig and bicyclist collided. It happened just after 7 00 near 6th and folsom streets. Brian flores is there and tells us whether the driver is is facing charges. Reporter good afternoon, tori. You have cars, bicyclists and trucks in close vicinity of each other in this accident. This is the latest accident. I just got off the phone with the San Francisco police department. They say this appears to be an accident. For now, its still under investigation. The driver will not face any charges. This after a 24yearold woman they say was kill as she was riding her bicycle on folsom. This is around the same time a boxed truck was trying to make a right turn onto 6th at folsom. Police say the driver didnt see the bicyclist and collided near the right rear tire of the truck. A bicyclist pulls up from the rear traveling eastbound folsom. As he begins his turn, he says he hears a noise, stops his truck, gets out and see the bicyclist on the road. Reporter after she was hit, the victim was taken to San Francisco general where she died as a result of her injuries. She has not been identified yet. Neither has the driver. We spoke to a bike rider on 6th and folsom this morning. He said this latest incident makes him service. I hope the city bigs bigger and better bike lines and takes care of cyclists. My sister rides her bike every day, too. Reporter police say the driver has been cooperating with police. He was not cited. They say at this point, he will not be charged. As we take it back out here live, the circles indicate where the bicyclist was hit. Police have come back at least one more time to make more measurements and continue the investigation. According to the spokeswoman for the San Francisco police, the bicyclists and the pedestrian were taken to the hospital. The extent of the injuries are not known at this time. Police in the east bay city of pittsburg have arrested a suspect. They arrested Kenneth Thompson at a home in martinez this morning. They say hes the person who fired in a car wounding three men and leaving one of them paralyzed. Hes also wanted for attempted homicide in antioch. Police say theyve been trying to track him down for some time. The body of sandra coke has been identified. Were now waiting to find out how she died. God bless her family. Oakland police would only confirm the body found in vacaville was coke but would not comment on the cause of death. Randy alana was seen with coke the night she disappeared. What we will say is randy alana is still considered a person of interest. In a Statement Released by cokes relatives they say cokes co workers issued a statement. It reads in part the Santa Clara County coroner has identified the woman struck and killed by Construction Machinery yesterday at San Jose City college. 49yearold maga gonzalez died at the hospital while she was hit. They were walking in that same spot about ten minutes before the deadly collision yesterday. This whole campus appears to be surrounded by construction. If you take a look over my shoulder, theres really its unclear where the construction area begins and where it is safe to walk. Thats some of the concerns that people are having. The women i spoke to, they dont recall any construction tape blocking off the area. Around 11 00 yesterday morning, five dispatchers responded to reports of a frontloader being used for work at San Jose City college had struck a woman. You are looking at video from the scene, you can see the large machinery involved in the collision still on the sidewalk. The worker was part was part of a crew. He was installing a water valve. City college of San Francisco is making new demands today that a decision to pull its accreditation be reversed because of problems within the accrediting commission. In the last hour, city college held a teleconference and said the u. S. Department of education complaint against the commission validates the demands. The president of the California Federation of teachers says the problem goes beyond city college. Weve urged the u. S. Department of education to thoroughly scrutinize the commissions work during the upcoming consideration of the commissions application for continued fedel itio he claims the commission has disploesed a high number of sanctions against Community Colleges in california. The sttion said last month that city college had not done enough to address problems and would lose its accreditation a year from now. Its the first day of school for some bay area students. Some are being introduced to big changes in the way there learn and how they are in the way they learn and how they are graded. Burnett is one of the schools introducing new teaching methods as part of a Pilot Program. Students will be using ipads in the classroom with apps that help with individualized learning. Teachers will work on a grading system that will provide more information about the students strengths and weaknesses in each subject area. As teachers were very often looking at all of these separate components but they get combined in a singleletter grade. If this works, it could be rolled out across the district in future years.
