Two of our detectives picked up on this and started listening on the radio and flanked the suspect. The other suspect kept running through the neighborhooded and on to highway neighborhood and on to highway 280 before being caught. They are deaths happening decades ago. The fbi is taking a fresh look at the killings because of new evidence in the case out of reno. We reported authorities would reopen the 1976 cold cases last night at 10 00 p. M. Authorities say there is reason to believe the person who killed that woman in reno may have also killed in the bay area. Reporter 1976s, university of nevada student found dead. The same year five women are killed. Today a connection is announced. Recent evidence that has been developed, links the crimes to several of our crimes here. Reporter ktvu learned that evidence is male dna. Law enforcement Officials Say the evidence tied someone else to the murder. There may have been another person involved in the case. Man whose dna also connects him to the string of killings on the peninsula. That is why there is that link here to the 5 other bay area murders. The deaths of the five women gripped the bay area in 1976 starting with the first victim. She disappeared from a bus stop in january, her body was later found. Investigators say there are multiple similarities between the murders. Forensic evidence, the methods, the timing, the profile of the victims. They all match. Given the new evidence a new effort was announced today. The fbi and Law Enforcement agencies who will Work Together to try uncover new leads. They will start by going to neighborhoods. We ask all members of the public to reflect on your memories from that time in 1976, if anything comes to mind notify us.
