Still coming across. There are some areas of rain. That will continue throughout most of the day. There are advisories for snow from Northern California to oregon. Into nevada, up and down the sierra and even down to the grapevine. All right. Winter weather advisories even in the apartment barbara mountains and the mountains of ventura county. Really down in the grapevine. Yes. Yes. It will happen. That would be the Winter Weather service in los angeles. About half an inch to an inch covered. Pretty uniform there. It went quick but intense for a while. Now it is heading up to topaz lake and kirkwood. That is putting the snow right about i dont think it is to grass valley yet but it will go below about 4500 feet to 4,000. A roaring south wind in advance of that. Another line is forming here up in parts of mendocino county, lake county, napa county, back over to santa rosa. Also now again in the santa cruz mountains. That is letting up a little bit. Still there to the santa clara valley. Take a look at shasta 5 north. That is snow there. The lowest snow levels near the oregon border. 40s on the temperatures. Thats it. Theres your south southeast wind. Look to the left of your screen. A lot of that is heading towards central california. That is extremely cold unstable air. If we get any snow, it will be from that swinging in late tonight, early tomorrow morning. Were not done yet. 50s on the temps. Today is the main rain day. A pg e worker thinks another business had moved in. The fire was towards the back. We have video from earlier. It appears that the smoke started when fire crews came upon it. They had to force entry into the warehouse. Crashing through their large metal doors. They said that no people were inside. But pallets and debris is what was on fire. As of right now, fire crews were just checking for hidden fires. Just to make sure there was nothing else that could potentially cause a little bit of an issue out here in oakland. Talking to one fire battalion chief, couldnt provide us much info. Fire inspectors are on their way to determine the cause. Again, this is mothers cookies that closed in 2008. Another top story. Stormy weather in the baya irand l. A. Area is expected to cause airport delays on this busy Holiday Travel day. Christien kafton is live at sfo with the latest. You said that the lines are getting longer and getting shorter, getting longer. What is it like now. Sal, we have been working the story all morning long to give you a sense of what were dealing with. You can see the lines here to go through security at sfo, not that long right now. As we look at the big board, we see there are delays here. The f. A. A. Has issued a Traffic Management program here at sfo which means that the average delay on arriving flights right now about two hours, 15 minutes. Looking at the big board, you can see a lot of delays. A flight from san diego was supposed to land at 8 35. Now will land 15 minutes from now. That gives you a sense of what people are looking at. Delays on departures out of sfo as well. An estimated 2. 4 million travelers are expected to fly today. We have video from lax showing the situation down there. 230 flights in and out of lax have been canceled due to Stormy Weather in the south. Lax officials saying there could be 200 Flights Canceled or delayed by noon today. The f. A. A. Listing an average of an hour and a half delay for flights going into lax. We had a camera in oakland earlier. There were delays this morning. Things are looking smooth now. We heard about delays out of san jose. The airport is saying those delays are related to the problems out of lax. They have seen some diverted flight thats were supposed to land at sfo instead landing there in san jose. Coming back to the live shot at sfo. You can see some of the reasons that the flights may have been diverted to san jose out of sfo. Wet roads, gray skies here. Still the story right now. That could certainly limit visibility and certainly slow flights in and out of sfo. Airlines and the airports are advising people to check with the airlines to see if they are departing on time. Pam, you and i are talking earlier about how weather across the country can affect things in the bay area. Weve been checking on the other delays. Delays into aspen, colorado due to weather. Dallas, were hearing about delays on departures. Those are flights leaving dallas here for the bay area. That is due to volume of flights right now. And also were hearing the same story out of miami as well. If youre expecting visitors from those cities, you might want to check the status of those flights. Always a good idea to call the airline beforehand to check on the status of your flight. One final piece of advice, you want to be sure that you call the airport and make sure there is longterm parking. You certainly dont want to arrive at the airport and find there is no place to park your car. I was going to ask you that. So stressful. Luckily bart goes to oakland and sfo now. Are you getting any indication there of how the parking lots are doing . Reporter you know, weve been focused pretty much on the terminals. We dont know exactly how the parking situation is looking here at sfo. I can tell you from personal experience, i have flown my family out and we didnt check and make reservations and we showed up at the airport and it was a mess. We had to scramble to find a place to park our cars. Learn from my mistakes, people. Learn from my mistakes. Go online. Make sure that theres a place to park the car. Get there two to three hours prior. That will help. Reporter Public Transit is always great. Exactly. Two hijackers have surrendered after they diverted the plane to malta. They released all of the passengers and crew this morning and left the plane and were taken into custody. Reportedly they have asked for a political asylum in malta earlier this morning. There were reports that the hijackers were threatening to blow up the plane, saying they had grenades. Airport officials in malta said there were 118 passengers on board the plane. If youre just joining us, the suspect in the Christmas Market attack in berlin was killed early this morning in a shootout with police in italy. Italian Police Say Two officers stopped anis amri near milan because he was wandering around around a train station. They asked for his papers and he reached into a backpack, pulled out a gun and shot one of the officers before being shot and killed by the second officer. It is believed that he traveled to italy through france from germany. There was a ticket in his backpack. The attack killed 12 people and injured 49 others. The Italian Police officer was not seriously injured. New at 9 00, president elect donald trump releasing a letter that he says he received from russian president putin. The letter dated december the 15th. And inside the letter, the russian president wishing mr. Trump warmest christmas and new years greetings. He goes on to say that serious global and region challenges show that relations between russia and the United States remain an important factor. President putin hopes to work cooperatively with mr. Trump once he takes the oval office. President elect released a statement in response to the letter saying, a very nice letter from putin. His thoughts are so correct. Both sides are able to live up to these thoughts he hopes and we do not have to travel an alternative pathway. In the meantime president elect donald trump is shaking up the pentagon with a tweet of one of the most expensive u. S. Weapons system. He announced that the jet fighter could be replaced with a modified version of a less expensive plane. The tweet says based on the tremendous cost and cost overruns of the Lockheed Martin f35 i have been asking boeing to price out a comparable super hornet. In another tweet yeah. President elect brought back memories of the cold war with this tweet about Nuclear Weapons quoting here. The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its Nuclear Capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes. Again, that was a quote, a tweet from trump. And coop, for people who dont travel up to lets say tahoe where you are often, what do they need to know about getting up there . Is it sold out or is there room to go up there and find lodging. She explained her father had been murdered four years ago today. Her letter was so touching. And the folks at the toy drive with the San Francisco Fire Department were so moved that they have planned a special surprise for her. They are actually coming down the street right now. We should be hearing the lights and sirens here any minute. Here they come. They will be surprising this little girl with all of the items on her list today. If you guys can come back here live, you can see that the truck is headed down. She is inside her house. She has no idea that this is about to happen. Her name is nevea. Her father was murdered four years ago today in oakland. He was shot. And that murder was never solved. So she had written a letter and explained to the Fire Department that this was kind of a sad time for her and her family. And the Fire Department decided to do something a little extra special. The chp is investigating a shooting that happened on interstate 580 in oakland that sent two people to the hospital. This happened just after 7 00 last night in the eastbound lanes of the freeway near the harrison street bit. Right now it is enclear what led up to the shooting. The chp says both of the victims were riding in the same car. We havent gotten an update on their conditions. No arrests made so far. Ubers selfdriving car program has left San Francisco and is headed to arizona. It has pulled the fleet from the city because the dmv revoked the reservations of the 16 selfdriving suvs. The state said that uber needed to apply for permits like the other companies. Uber says it doesnt need permits because a driver is always in the car. Arizonas governor by the way is welcoming the selfdriving cars. Well, you can add milpitas to the list of bay area cities looking for a new chief. The current chief tells the Milpitas Post that he will retire next week after 30 years with the department. He tells the newspaper that his wife is battling cancer and he wants to care for her as she undergoes treatment. He will stay on as a consultant until june so they can find another chief. A san jose man has quite a story to tell how he came to call Silicon Valley his home recently. Maureen introduces us to him and says he made his dream of living in the u. S. Come true by putting his life on the line for u. S. Soldiers. It was very bad. You can see from here, from here, right over here, all the way up here. Reporter the man behind these scars is considered a hero by the u. S. Military for risking everything to save the lives of american soldiers. Because i was a little guy, they called me little mikey all the time. Reporter he went by the alias mikey to protect his true identity. At the age of 17 he started working for the u. S. Army as a translator in afghanistan. For five years, starting in 2007, he was the eyes and ears of the u. S. Military in the war zone. Its a feeling of scared, feeling of like you know that you feel youre going to die any second. Reporter the now 26year old has dozens of recommendation letters from a general to captains. His effectiveness was not only noted by my soldiers. Reporter in this letter, army captain tyler rund wrote mikey distinguished himself running through the middle of the gun fight to give ammunition to one of the vehicles who had run out. If he was an american soldier, it is the kind of valor that we give medals for. He speaks four languages and recalled one especially harrowing translation that he made in the province in 200 where his and american soldiers lives were on the line after he heard the enemy say this. Saying let all of them go through. Were going to shoot them from behind so they dont fight us in the facetoface. We can kill at least a couple of them or all of them. I told my po, i was like, listen man, were about to get killed. Theyre trackings right here. He told all of the guys to get on the ground. The minute we get on the ground, the fire fight starts. Reporter the government gave him a special immigrant visa to live in the United States. He moved into the san jose apartment with his wife and ninemonthold son. Thold son. I was like you know what, there is a big opportunity that i can go to United States of america. Reporter his first accomplishment here, passing his drivers test and getting a license. Some friends started an online fundraiser to help buy for a used car and pay for a few months rent and raise almost 5,000 in two weeks. I miss my family a lot. It is very hard to be far away. Reporter while his wife misses home. The young mother says living here comes with a welcome and dramatically different life. The biggest change in my life from moving moving from afghanistan to the United States is feeling more secure and safe in my daily life. In afghanistan, we lived in fear. I think when i was about five, i really wanted to be a dancer. When i was like three. I love dapsing. Its really fun. If you love it that much, then you should do it. Reporter and they know when it comes to ballet, christmas is all about the nutcracker. I think that its a classic ballet for christmas. It is really a cool family ballet. I like infantry because of all the mice and we get to like hold the guns. And we get to march and like have red stickers on our cheeks. And i love the music. The music is so good. Im really grateful that the Ballet Company is actually letting some of the students dance in it because i know that in some other companies, they dont let the kids do it. I have been in it twice. This is my third time. Reporter like so many dancers they remember seeing the nutcracker for the first time. I first saw it when i was first starting ballet. When i was 7, we would used to drive and i would see these posters. And then on top. And then i would say to myself, oh, i want to be someone like that. I was in the Ballet School when i first saw the nutcracker. I want to be fritz really bad. I was bobby last year. Now im henry green this year. I just im trying to work my want up to be fritz. Reporter as the young dancers dance, they also dream. I would love to be clara. Clara San Francisco ballet clara is huge. I want to be clara too. If i got the part clara, it would be so magical. And you get to dance with some of the company members. And i just think thats really awesome. Reporter but until those big roles come, they will enjoy the love of dance. The magic of the audience. And the thrill of the stage. And of course their favorite scene. Because youre in it. Yeah. Theyre so lucky to have the San Francisco ballet here. Listening to the girls, my little ballerina got to be clara in her nutcracker last year at the dance studio. What a moment. To be clara in San Francisco. I took her last week to see the San Francisco ballet. Love touchdown. Mesmerized. It is a wonderful family tradition. Coming up, these group of cheerleaders from pacifica are now national champions. A demonstration of their skills when mornings on 2 continues. [music] welcome back. On december 17th, history was made as the cheer squad was crowned national champions. Until this year, no other cheer squad in pacifica, including high school ever captured a national title. The team will perform for us in a couple minutes. We want to welcome the head coach to the 9. Thank you for joining us. Thank you. I have a competition cheerleader in my house. Were happy that it is a sport. Right. Ridiculous it hasnt been a sport before. Agreed. People dont realize, this is really intense. Yes. You are throwing and catching. Yes. Girls who weigh almost as much as you do. What is the most challenging part. This year, every time i thought something would be too hard for them, they aced it right away. So i constantly had to come up with new stuff. So that they could, you know, learn and grow and not be board. Talk to us about the number of hours that go into this. It is like dance. Athletics too. Yeah. I imagine youre practicing every day. In august we did practice five days a week for two hours. September, october and november, it was down to three days a week. Now that youre national champions, are you the talk of the town . It is a small town. It has been incredible. Everybody is asking, arent you the team that just took the National Championship. It is incredible that chief is being recognized, especially in pacifica because people dont realize how big it is. How long has the team been together . Was it pacifica is small, like we said. How many girls are there and able to do this. On our team we have 21 cheerleaders. A good handful have been here for quite a few years. We have a few girls that this was their first year to cheer. Every year weve gotten better and better. I think that has enticed people to join the program. When did you think that you had a chance . When did you think, you know what, i have a team here that could take home the gold, if you will . I know how hard it is to place first in nationals. To me, i thought it was impossible. So this year was a huge like star struck moment for us. We did not expect this at all. I expected them to place in nationals. They got the highest score that pacifica has ever seen at a competition. The highest score across the entire level. I knew they would be good. There are nationals in anaheim. Yep. Did you choose to go to the one in orlando because it is a bigger deal. Anaheim is not for pop warner. Okay. Pop warner, our National Championship is held in orlando. Were looking at the video. We just got off it. What was it like to win and go through the competition . How fierce was it when you were there. It was the most incredible feeling when we won. I have no words to explain it at all. The one of the few things i said to them before they went on, go out there and hit it. I want to you see the video and not think that you made mistakes. They went out there and they were on fire. No mistakes. None. You couldnt tell. They were professionals. What age,. Eight, nine, ten and 11. These are young girls. We should see them cheer. Theyre here and are going to give us a demo of the National Championship forum. Lets send it over to them. [applause] one proud coach over here watching. Did they hit this . Yep. They did fantastic.
