This was the scene your 23rd and foothill boulevard. It happened earlier this morning. A driver left the scene of the rollover accident his injured passenger had to be cut out of the vehicle. Two men were inside of the car. The driver took down a power pole and is a power outage. You can see that he was taken to the hospital. Police are still searching for the driver. Theres an investigation underway. After one person was killed. This remains there for diff between linden. That accident is there but it is unclear if the bus is still involved theyre still doing measurements and one person was confirmed to be killed by that accident they are still investigating. Lets talk politics. Donald trump has reportedly made a big pic with sources telling them that they will nominate him as secretary of state. As he also says he doesnt necessarily need daily intelligence briefings. Kelly wright has the latest from new york. Certainly hes an American Icon and businessman that i think is a pretty incredible guy. Sources telling them that the head of exxon mobil is Donald Trumps pick to be the next secretary of state. Democrats are sounding the alarm over pension potential conflicts of interest. I want to know what he thinks about a broad set of issues not just energy ones but initially even some republicans are concerned. They say, that they plan to give him a fair examination during the confirmation process. Its a matter of concern that he has such a close personal relationship with vladimir putin. In the meantime, there are new concerns that russian hacking helps get donald trump elected. I think that its ridiculous. Most of the community disagrees with his assessment with politicians on both sides of the aisle calling for an investigation. We have john mccain democrats, a bipartisan effort saying we need an investigation because its very serious i think we go forward. Yes, and something that so interesting is jared and his children are interested in white house positions and we have the Bobby Kennedy rule of the code. No nepotism. However, in a sort of twisted irony Hillary Clinton having been first lady and raising the profile of that office and in fact in a court case it was decided that first ladies are we factor government employees. So that case may help the truck kids get closer to the white house. Lets talk about your book. Why write this class so little . There is so little empirical work on first ladies. And i think its a shame because they are political superstars. They get huge audiences. More people engage with public remarks. Higher Favorability Ratings and really, they are dependent on so much to deliver the president s message. So i wanted to measure that. Its so interesting when Hillary Clinton was first lady, she received a lot of criticism because people said, i voted for bill clinton not Hillary Clinton. Why is she in the forefront . Is that a big turning point in becoming more of a spokesperson . It was. Hillary clinton was controversial with healthcare involvement. She was the chair of the task force which hasnt happened. That changed the administration involving that ministration. The Obama Administration has followed suit. They advocate for policy but they are not legislatures. Do think that if melania decides not to be involved, people will try to decipher or do you think that its okay because maybe shes going to be busy being a mother . I think that shes are ready getting criticism. They cost 1 million a day for them to stay in new york and they are not very happy about that. She says that they will move in june. But of course, theres no requirement to them to live in the white house. So she can do what she wants but as someone who is a communication strategists think that it is a lost opportunity when there is so much political capitol. Thats when the Approval Ratings are highest. What you expect to see from melania . Well i would expect that she has made this declaration that she will work on Cyber Bullying but she would follow through. Its pretty early to make that type of announcement. Those resources will be there. But of course, from a communications standpoint that has been controversial because donald trump is a cyber bully. So you want something that is consistent with the administrations overarching agenda and that can be a high profile positive projects. But, the trump that we saw during the campaign which lasted a year and a half is that the one we are going to see . That would be the best indication because typically we see spouses who are very involved. But, she could be as little involved or the most involved that she would like to she can bring the American People and and directly communicate with them but you know no requirement and i think that based on what we have seen so far she may keep to herself. Its hard to follow Michelle Obama shes an exemplary first lady. All of these things that they have followed through. The most televised first lady. Exactly. And more public remarks and public involvement. And these interviews that she does with sort of alternative media, the use of social media which are only trampled probably pick up and carry but interviewing with youtube stars, going on reality tv shows, it has really been a revolution for her. And the sierra, it was all rain this week at 5 to 10 inches of rain from in grass valley on to homewood and it looks like it will be more of a snow event not so much on tuesday wednesday but late thursday. North bay tomorrow windy but try on wednesday thursday friday and it looks like things are starting to get interesting cold but dry on the weekend. Thank you. A new sinkhole opened up cutting off access to a section of the beach christian is there were the clips continue to crumble and they report that if a private property issue. Yes, i just talked to the city managed office and they are telling me that this entire path is private property. It is really up to them to determine whats going to happen what to do and whether it can be saved as you look right now you can see that there is a gaping hole in the lowest part of the path right before you get to the stairs at this point its completely not usable. The path is close to the public and you can see why it is simply too dangerous to use. No one was on the path when it wrote it out. It appears that this is the only path and neighbors tell us that they like the section because its one of the few areas that they can walk their dogs off of the lease. They say that they have watched it erode away thing that they kept away as they watched a small crack row into a gaping hole. They are worried about the future since its their only access. Its not the first erosion concern. You probably remember those buildings. Because of erosion concerns. The path right next to it, that building is condemned and its empty because of the risk of falling into the sea. Two neighbors have authority been demolished coming back out to the live shot this should give you a sense of how close the path is to the 310. And of course, the whole situation here expecting the king tides to start flowing. Really, we are hearing tuesday and wednesday should start seeing those high tides which would work to further the to weekend that path. It really big belongs to the apartment complex and its up to them to hire an engineer and find out what can be done to save the path. It has been such a rough time for those people. Its going to be a tough winter. Yes. It sure is. And with more rain in the forecast it causes more concern. You are not only worried about the ocean you are worried about the rain eroding. You think that the city would be concerned. But despite that, these are people complex in the city of pacifica. The city certainly is monitoring the situation telling us that it was the apartment complex that put up the warning sign telling people that there is no access and again since its private property they are treating it as if it is their problem. All right. Thank you. Today marks six months since the pulse nightclub shooting. They opened fire the reporter is caught up with people who share the memories. Denise remembers the night that she sent here. And nobody ever got judge. Im a straight woman, they treated me so well and i support my community. And for the first time, she brought her daughter to the place where 49 people were killed by gunfire. I feel bad for the people who lost family members brothers, and friends. And the people that they loved. They walked along the fence looking at the murals and memorials along with the others who thought of it as a place of joy in sanctuary. He is relocating north in a little while but wanted to visit one last time. Just the nicest club that i ever came to. And i met some of my best friends ever. Its so many happy memories. He said its always important to keep on dancing. I dont think that the perpetrator will when because love conquers all. We have time to be sad but we need to go out and dance again to have fun and remember the happy memories. And its those memories that make her support the owner to reopen the club in a different location. I think its a great idea not to keep it here necessarily but to keep the name the same i think its a phenomenal idea. That was not reporting. The doctors and nurses at the early Orlando Center who treated many of those victims are still trying to cope with that tragedy. The doctor tells usa today that he still attends frequent their concessions with his staffers and called it a wakeup call for the medical community. He visits hospitals around the country to talk about how they should prepare for mass casualty event just in case. He also met with lawmakers to law restrictions. And, the deadly oakland warehouse fire 36 people died agents had been there for more than a week looking into the exact cause of the fire on friday. And, that refrigerator was ruled out. And, they gave no details investigators say that they held out a News Conference tomorrow morning to give us an update. The first funeral for the victims were held over the weekend and Leigh Martinez has more on have rent and dimly remember the visual media artist. They came an hour before the service was to begin but when inside, they realized that there was no room left to stand. Family and friends filled the room at the congregation in berkeley to remember the visual media artist. The last time that i saw him, the wednesday before, he gave him an especially writing an especially good hug. Although his life and a tragic we ended tragically, his life was remembered with laughter. I found myself frequently in the position of being asked what does your brother do exactly . [laughter] its been a weekend filled with memorials and tributes. And, this fittingly, the tributes include beautiful pieces of art. I love to do art and when i heard about this, i just thought, i need to see this and to my fellow artist even if i didnt know them. She came to read each poem a note interview the artwork right here. The childrens drawings are so expressive and speak volumes about how not only how they feel but how oakland in the whole bay area feels. They ran out with only the clothes that they were wearing on sunday it quickly organized eight 8 clothing dr. One of them was a resident there and quite a few of them have friends and they were lost in the fire. So, it is quite interwoven. By wednesday, it was organized with hundreds of clothing donations. Looking for winter appropriate clothing, coats, suitcases, and toiletries. Things that will meet their immediate need. But rebuilding will not be easy. We were told at least two survivors who lived here are struggling to find housing for themselves and the pets that they saved. At the memorial his friends questioned how survivors can afford to move on while the Bay Area Community has not made significant progress in the housing crisis. The fear is that the arts will continue to be victimized by this tragedy. The Funeral Services were held yesterday for the 17 yearold drevon mcgill. He was a High School Student and the son of in Alameda County sheriffs deputy. A fundraiser to remember those fire victims was held at the nightclub and guests donated at least 20. There is also a silent auction. One staff member said last nights event was personal for him because the one of them worked as a sound engineer. And, all about support in our community and we have lost a lot of people. Its a very tightknit community. And, im hoping that we would be doing exactly what i have been doing. The entertainer will be performing for free. The musician reached out to them after hearing about the fire. We have a special section of ktvu. Com dedicated to that fire. There you can also find ways to help those victims. The Salvation Army is getting a lot of help to deliver toys to needy children. The group takes deep. They raised 110,000. They are not only helping to get them to children in need but they are teaching their own children the importance of giving back. Last year, the Salvation Army delivered about 3000 toys. And, during a twoday toy giveaway. They made a great effort to help fill that need for toys for him 8 to 16yearolds 48 to 16yearolds. The compassion experience is a free event that takes people on a journey through the stories of children living in developing countries. Today is the last day to check this out. And what happens is that people will hear an audio clip that will explain his story. And it is jay, his real life. You can come through to hear the portion of what his life was like. And each room represents different parts of their lives. This is a very small room. Where else this is he is from kenya. Right. So we have all of these different rooms. And, his life progresses just before he sponsored through compassion. He goes for a lot a very tough moment and he has to steal to be able to make money and food and eventually he is imprisoned at nine. So this was his cell . Yes. Eventually he was given hope and sponsored through this experience. So this is the classroom . Yes. And, it gives him hope. It gives them a brandnew start life. And what is through here . This part of the story where he is in an area where he discovers his own talent and becomes a dj. He starts to make christian music and performing it live. And inspiring all those around him to be able to have the hope. So this is what the compassionate experience does. It takes you through a journey at startup negative and ends on a positive note and you try to get folks to donate. Thats right. Keep it going to save as many lives as possible to give them that help because there is more than just the physical poverty it is emotional and social echoes with it. And whats in the last room . This is where the guests can come through and sponsor kids of their own. These are all the children. These are all different kids a sponsorship packet. And, sponsorships of 25 Different Countries and all different priorities and ages. Their biographies are in each of these. So they can read about them. Thank you so much. The efforts of hundreds of the United Airlines employees, the kids are escorted through the airport. Lead on to a rocket. We are so happy that you are here. Welcome. A flight is heading straight to the north pole. When you get to the north pole to get to meet santa. And reindeer, his elves, and mrs. Clause. They are all guaranteed upon landing in the big mans arctic home turf. Its amazing. And, every part of it we were almost in tears. And, you just make it so special. Or some, this is a fantasy. For these kids it makes a the reality its a dream come true. Here we go. and, United Airlines all year long to make this fantasy flight happened this is the 30th here in denver. They have flown the sick and disadvantaged children to the north pole. A monthlong we are taking time to bring you feel that stories like the one that has spread holiday cheer. Have also been asking you to nominate people that go above and beyond to help make the lives of other people just a little bit better. Today we want to introduce you to eightyearold messiah. This is video from the second can be good drive. He collected toys and canned goods to donate to alejo together. Also a special visit from the Fire Department and at the end of the day also donated the leftover food from the event to friends in need. Tell me the idea about this. Why did you want to do this . So that kids can be happy for the toys. So these are children who dont necessarily love have homes. When you see a child who doesnt have a home . How does that make you feel . Its kind of sad that they dont have any homes. I think that its very sad. When did this come onto your radar . We usually help our friends in need during the holidays. Actually throughout the whole year, we keep losing our trunks. And, he offers them food and if theres anything we can do is help them. And, last year he had it started and he started writing his own and on his listed said Fire Department toy drive. He said were going to run with this list of yours last year he had the first and we are carrying it on every year and they have the opportunity. How many toys do you think that got donated . Hundreds. And calm it is one into. And, its a toy drive and the it is a lot. What do you think of your son . Fabulous. Words cant is described he does it on his own and we are just proud of him. So what do you see him going . What do you want him to do for a living . I really want that kind of sing and play basketball. And, they cant sing. And speak and president. Obama, he brought in letters and he sent for letters. And, this is one of the president planner is talking about you, once i leave the white house i will be counting on young people like you to step up and get involved. Because, the ulster a lasting responsibility. And, it will make the nation stronger. And, it will write letters or that. And, what did you think . I was so excited. I love president. Obama. And he loves you. And were you surprised . Yes. The last one especially because it was kind of like his departure letter. I didnt have to write it. Right. He writes to him. They are kind of like penpals. And, the last one was a special surprise. Letting him know that he was going out and he was no longer going to be the official president. Its just incredible. Just to have the acknowledgment from the president i know that it is not him personally its a staff. But its still acknowledgment. And, it is a rewarding feeling. And, the white house envelopes when you get to see that dress coming from it. Yes, and its like oh my god, this is important. What is also real is what you are doing and i know its a tradition that you want to continue so its an inspiration not only to me but hopefully to all of our young boys and girls and every grown up out there because we need to do more.
