Here in vallejo, this is where the officer involved shooting incident started, at this starbucks off of west lincoln road and interstate 80. Two officers came to the coffee shop. They say they saw a man point an assault style weapon at them. They say the mans gun jam order malfunctioned, so he didnt fire, but from this surveillance video, you can see this man walk into a starbucks. He is in the store for just looks like just a few seconds, when you see him come out. First he starts walking, and then he breaks out into a run, and shortly after, you can see the two officers chasing after him across the parking lot. G lot. As you heard from that audio, the officers werent hurt, but the suspect was, the man with the gun was. You can hear police say they believe the man had tried to ambush him. The Police Chased the man to a nearby residential neighborhood near sheridan and magazine road. Thats when the police opened fire and shot the man three times. He went to the hospital with lifethreatening gunshot wounds. How this is connected to sassoon is unclear. But here is what we know about what happened in that city yesterday. Police investigated an accident in which a twoyearold child was found suffering from a gun shot wound in his home. Police werent sure whether the child may have accidentally shot himself, but when they arrived to interview the family members, the childs father had already left. We hope to get some clarification on the connection between threepoint two cases. Thai there will be a press conference later this morning, but right now, they are not offering any details about any connection. Now to San Francisco, where the man accused of shooting an officer are there has died from his injury. Sisters were responding to calls about a person threatening others in the sunset district friday night. Police say the suspect shot at officers, hitting one in the head, and went into a nearby grove. There was a confrontation, and an officer shot the suspect, who died yesterday at the hospital. The officer is partially paralyzed on one side of his body. He is expected to survive. In the south bay, jury selection is getting underway for the trial of the man accused of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar. It has now been more than 15 years since the 15yearold disappeared on her are way home from school. Her body has never been found. We have a live report now from the hall of justice if in san jose. Reporter this was such a highprofile case. Many people have been following this case of sierra lamar since she has been missing. Its been four years. As you mentioned, her body has never been found, but the suspect has been sitting in jail for that time. Now finally today, jury selection supposed to begin, and im joined now with stephen clark. Tell me, is it going to be a challenge to find 12 jurors and six alternates to serve on this jury . This is the most important phase of the case for both sides. Both sides will start indocktrying these potential juniors. For the defense, they want people that will at least have an open mind. Theres been so Much Negative publicity against garcia torres, they need the jurors to keep an open mind, and for the prosecution, they have to convince the jury that sierra lamar is dead. They are seeking a Death Penalty in a case where they cannot provide the body. That is a big hurdle in a Death Penalty case. They will be asking what these jurors know about sierra lamars case, their background, their connection to law enforcement. Anything that could suggest that they cannot be fair and impartial. And both sides are going to be seeking a jury thats very different from the other. They even get 20 channels at kicking jurors off. But this is the most important phase of the case. What about delays . I know that, you know, weve been waiting for man four years, and the teens has seemed to be defense has seemed to be asking for more things, and its been delayed. Will that happen again . Its certainly possible that the defense wants to at least put off jury selection past the election as to whether or not were even going to have a Death Penalty, because theyre afraid that these jurors will be death qualified, and even if theres not a Death Penalty in existence, theyre going to be a much more conservative jury. And certainly what could happen if these potential jurors come to court and say we just cant be fair, weve heard too much about the series lamar case, you can see the change of venue motion revisited, whichever could then take this case completely off track. As you just heard, that change of venue issue could still come up. Today, it is going to be about weeding out. Tential jurors, do they have a hardship . Can they not serve . Because this trial is expected to go as long as possibly six months. You see right now, thats the cypress structure that used to be in oakland. Also the bay bridge here, they it just collapsed. In all, 63 people died, and more man 3700 people were injured. We have partner programs with police department, with our animal care and control, so that if you have an interest in volunteering to support some of those other agencies you can do so. Police in santa cruz say officers hot and killed a man who charged at them with a metal rake. It happened yesterday morning at a home on chance street. Now, someone called 911 to say a man was pounding on the doors and windows of their home. They theycy man confronted officers, attacking them with a metal rake and wouldnt stop despite being tased. Officers fired one shot killing the man. The suspect continued to charge the officer, continued to move forward and threat then officers with a weapon that he would not put down. Some neighbors say the man was mentally unstable. Santa cruz police say all of their officers go through Mental Health training, and that two officers on the call had taken enhanced training. The Sonoma County Sheriffs Office is investigating a triple shooting last night that left one man dead and two people wounded. The shooting was reported at 8 15 p. M. At a house if a rural area along highway 115. One man died attie seen, another panel and woman were taken to the hospital. Their conditions havent been released. Police are looking for a driver who hit and called woman who was walking in a crews walk. The woman in her 70 was hit saturday night at rollins and adryian roads. She died at the hospital. Police say at least five vehicles were there in the area at the time of the crash, including this one, which they describe as a white full sized chevy pickup with a camper shell.
