The traffic, you can see, is not doing very well. There could be something new, because its slow usually, but not this slow, so worry trying to figure out what is going on here. Traffic is going to be slower than normal from highway 1 coming up and over the hill. So if you are trying to get over the hill, give yourself some extra time. Investigators say a man armed with an assault style gun and body armor was shot by Vallejo Police officers after pointing that gun at the officers outside of starbucks last night. There is a possible connection to the shooting of a child in sasoon city. Reporter thats right. Things are back to normal here this morning, but last night police came to the door and saw a man point an assault style weapon at them. The mans weapon jammed or malfunctioned, so he didnt fire, but take a look at this Surveillance Video. You see the man walk into the starbucks. Pay attention to his reflex on the far left window of your screen, because then a few seconds later, you see the man exit the starbucks, first start walking, and then break out into a run, and you can see the two officers chase after him across the parking lot. Reporter police said they felt threatened, so the officers shot the man three times in a residential neighborhood three 0 to four like way from the starbucks, he the man went to the hospital with some lifethreatening gunshot wounds. No word on his condition this morning. When police found him, he had another loaded weapon on him, and he was wearing body armor. What is unusual is that Vallejo Police will be doing a press conference with San Francisco sassoon city police. A case there, a twoyearold child was found suffering from a gunshot wound his home. When investigators arrived to interview the family, the childs father had already left. We hope to learn more about a possible connection between the sassoon city shooting and the vallejo officerinvolved shooting that happened out here near this starbucks. Again, they are supposed to have a joint press conference at 10 30 this morning. We know that officials from two departments will be be talking about what happened here in vallejo. Back to you. A man accused of shooting a San Francisco Police Officer has died from his injuries. Officers were responding to calls about a person who was threatening others thats lake shore shopping senter in the sunset district. The suspect shot at officers, hitting one in the head. Police say there was a confrontation, and an officer shot the suspect, who died yesterday at the hospital. The windowed officer, identified as kevin downs, is partially paralyzed on one side of his body. She expected to survive. Police in santa rosa say officers shot and killed a man who charged at them with at metaling rake. It happened yesterday morning. Someone called 911 swabbing a man was pounding on the doors and windows of their home. When police arrived, they the man confronted officers, attacking them with a metal rake and he wouldnt stop despite being tased. One officer fired at least one shot, killing the man. Officers lives were definitely threatened in this. The suspect continued to charge he is officer, continued to move forward, and threaten the officers with a weapon that he would not put down. Some of the neighbors say the man was mentally unstable. After four years of wait, jury selection will finally begin in the trial of the man suspect of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar. Reporter he has been impatient, he wanted this trial to start. Sierra lamars family has been impact, they want justice, and the trial is finally getting underway this morning. Hundreds of jurors will be filling out questionnaires, and theyll determine if those jurors should sit on the jury for this highprofile case. 15yearold sierra lamar disappointed more than four years ago on her way to school. The defendant was arrested and charged with kidnapping and killing her. Her body was never found, but prosecutors say her dna was found in his car and her dna was found on his clothing. The attorney spoke amortize about the Death Penalty case spoke to us about the Death Penalty case. They are trying to delay this, because coming up in november, we have the Death Penalty ballot in california, and trailer hoping the voters vote against the Death Penalty. If they do vote against it, of course that will be taken off the table in this case. Reporter the jury selection is expected to begin today and expected to take several week. On the rough days, i would go out and take a nice long ride. Im able to just clear my mind about the negativity i have, and just settle in and enjoy the ride. Some of the people who went to this weekends Treasure Island Music Festival are demanding a refund after heavy rain caused a lot of problems, delayed or even canceled some of the performances. Alex is here now to tell us how the organizers of the festival are responding to the complaints and the backlash. So what are they saying . Good morning. Some festivalgoers were disappointed with their experience. They want their money back. However, the organizers say that is not going to happen. This morning, the cleanup is well under areway here on Treasure Island after the Music Festival which took place on saturday and sunday. 0 now, the storm, especially on saturday, caused some major scheduling delays with the shows, and there were also a couple of acts that never even took the stage. Duke dumont and flight facilities canceled their saturday performances they say out of safety concerns because of all of the heavy rain. A number of fans have taken to social media asking for their money back after missing those performances. Another Planet Entertainment did issue an an oflegy for the inconvenience an apology for the inconvenience, but will not be issuing any refunding to festival go . They say the artists could have take then storm. It was safe, and it was their choice not to go on stage. And on saturday, they point out that moist of the acts, all but two, din did perform, and that includes the headliner on saturday night, which was ice cube. Investigators got a call to a house in the rural part along highway 116 saturday night. When they arrived, they found three people who had been shot. One man died right there at the scene. Another man and woman were taken to santa rosa memorial hospital. The press democrat reports a marijuana grow was found on that property, but investigators are not saying if it had anything to do with that shooting. Police are looking for the driver who hit and killed a woman walking at a cross walk. The woman, who was in her 70s, was hit about 7 00 saturday night at rollins and adrian roads. She died at the hospital. Police say about five vehicles were in the area at the time of the crash, including this one caught on surveillance camera. A second photo well share now shows what appears to be a white toyota pick up with a pickup with a king cab. They would like to talk tow the drivers of these vehicles. This will be there for a cup of more hours, and then looks like things will start to wind down, but snow levels have been coming down a little bit, so thats good. Were looking at a little cooler temperatures here. A very warm, and humid weekend. One more system i think clips the north on tuesday. 60s and 70s today. Things a little worse on the east shore, steve, as we thought it would. Ing the this is a look at the east shore freeway. It has taken almost an hour to drive from the bridge to the mcarthur maze, this whole stretch here, and its pretty crowded. However, its not out of the ordinary. But this is usually the crunch time for that treeway, and getting down to the bay bridge toll plaza. Lets look at the rest of the east bay now. The east shore freeway, it is slow, as you can see. But 680 is slow, as well, as you drive through that area. 580 getting a little better on the alta month pass. But 680 is slow, and then the main part of the east bay here, or i shouldnt say the main part, but the part close toes the bay, from 238 down to i about stephenson, we have slow traffic on 880. Investigators say aen man armed with an assault style gun and body armor was shot by Vallejo Police officers after pointing that weapon at officers outside of a starbucks last night. Ali joins us like this morning. Youre learning that sassoon police are involve involved in that have investigation . Reporter yeah, what that sex, were not sure yet. This is the starbucks off of west lincoln road. It was 8 00 last night when they came into the coffee shop. Police say the mans weapon jammed or malfunctioned, so he didnt fire, but in this Surveillance Video from that gas station we just mentioned, you can see the man walk into the starbucks. Pay attention to his reflex on the far left window of your screen, because you can see him just barely inside the store, when a few seconds later, he walks out, first starts walking, and then the man breaks beauty is a run. You can see the two officers chasing after him across the parking lot. Rking lot. Those shot is fired were from police. Police say the man looked like he was still handling his weapon, they felt threatened, and so officers shot the man three times, about three to four blocks away from the starbucks on Magazine Road in a more residential area. The man went to the hospital with life threatening gunshot wounds. Theres say he had another loaded weapon an on him, and was also wearing body armor. Police are supposed to talk more about this case. Whats unusual is they are going to be doing that press conference jointly with the sassoon city police department. Why are both departments involved . Again be, we done know what the exact connection is, but we know that yesterday afternoon in sassoon city, police investigated an incident in which a twoyearold child was found suffering from a gunshot wound if his home. They arent sure whether the child may have accidentally shot himself, but when investigators arrived to talk to family members, one of the childs relatives had already left. We hope to learn more than about the connection between these two incidents, these two cases at that press conference with Vallejo Police. Thats happening at 10 30. In the mean time, officials from both departments arent offering any more details about what that connection is. Mike . All right, ali, thank you for that report. A man accused of shooting a San Francisco Police Officer has died from his injuries. Officers were responding about a call from of a man shooting other people. Police say the suspect shot at the officers hitting one of them in the head. That suspect then ran. Police say there was a confrontation, and an officer shot that suspect. That suspect died yesterday at the hospital. The wounded officer is partially paralyzed on one part of his body. She is expected to survive. Police in santa cruz say a man shot and killed a man who charged at them with a metal rake. This happened yesterday morning person someone called 911, saying a man was pounding on doors and windows at their home. When officers arrived, police say the man confronted officers, attacking them with a metal rake, and he wouldnt stop despite being tased. One officer fired at least winner shot, killing the man. Officers lives were definitely threat wered in this. The suspect continued to charge the officer. Continued to move forward, and threaten the officers with a weapon that he would not put down. Some neighbors say the man was mentally unstable. Santa cruz police say all of their officers go through Mental Health training, and that the two officers who were on this call had taken enhanced training. Jury selection will begin today in the trial of the man suspected and killing sierra lamar. We have a live report from the hall of justice in san jose to the start of what is no doubt a very long trial. Reporter thats right. And its likely most of the prospective jurors will have heard of the case of sierra lamar, as the case involving her received so much media attention. As far as this process goes, the prospective yours will fill out a questionnaire and the lawyers will review their answers. At the heart of this case, 15 yearold sierra lamar who disappeared back in 2012 while she was walking to school. And what happened was at morgan hill Antolin Garciatorres ended up getting arrested for her kidnapping and murder. Prosecutors say sierras dna was found in his car, and his dna was found on some of her clothing thrown in a field near where she went missing. Her body was never found. Garciatorres has pled not guilty to murdering sierra, and to three other charges of attempted kidnapping from 2009. We spoke to a ktvu legal analyst about how those charges will impact the case. Keep in mind, i think what is devastating to the defense in this case are the other counts, and thats the murder, but then there are three other counts of kidnapping with three separate victims. So those women will come in, or those victims will come in, and say he tried to kidnap me. Coupled with this case, think it pushes it way over the edge, and you can look for a long trial, but a conviction at the end of this trial of first degree murder. Reporter twelve yours and six alternates need to be picked. This is a Death Penalty case, so thats something that the jurors will be questioned about. This process could take several weeks. Jury selection begins here at the main courthouse at 9 00 a. M. Another big story we are following this morning is the weather. More rain fell overnight leaves some roads wet for this mornings commute, in the Santa Cruz Mountain this, rain caused concerns about possible mudslides in the area where the loma fire burnrd last month. A man pointed an assault style weapon at two officers who were inside a nearby starbucks. Police shot the man three times after a brief foot chase. The suspect suffered life threatening injuries. The officers were not hurt. Police say this could be tied to the recent shoot okay off child in sassoon city.
