He is muni has not yet provided any information about jacksons career. Another man was also seriously injured in the shooting. Police have arrested a suspect but did not release information about him or a positive motive in the shooting. Some people are expressing outrage over a sixmonth jail sentence giving to a former swimmer after he was convicted of raping an unconscious woman outside a fraternity. Happening today the Baltimore Police officer facing the most serious charge in the death of freddie gray heads to court. Officer Caesar Goodson is facing a murder charge in the case. He and two other officers arrested grey last year. Goodson was driving the Police Transport van when grey suffered a fatal final injury. Prosecutors say he is responsible for greys death because he failed to properly buckle him in the van. He is charged with Second Degree murder and could face 30 years in prison if convicted. Edward nero last month was acquitted of all charges. The first officers trial ended in a hung jury. We are learning more about a man accused of stealing an fbi agents gun in San Francisco over the memorial day weekend. It was taken from the agents car. When Police Arrested Michael Gregory jr. At his home in San Francisco they say they discovered more than five grams of cocaine and 1,400 cash. If he is convicted on drug charges, he could be sent to prison for 20 years. He is already facing a ten year sentence for stealing the agents gun, which has been recovered, and the agents i. D. , which is still missing. A deadly weekend in san jose has pushed the citys homicide rate to 22 so far this year. That count is according to the mercury news. The paper reports that at this time last year there had only been eight homicides. The latest happened just after 3 00 yesterday afternoon near east julian and north 26th streets. Police found a shooting there and found him dead. San jose police are investigating a deadly shooting from saturday night. This one happened at about 8 45 in the parking lot of a strip mall at east hills drive and south white road. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he died. A witness said two men got into an argument. One pulled out a knife and a gun. The witness says that during a scuffle the man dropped the gun and the second man picked it up and shot the other in the chest before leaving the scene in a black beach cruiser bicycle. Stanford university is warning students to be on alert. Campus police say both incidents happened friday morning between 3 and 6 45 on campus drive east. A man walked into the rooms and lifted covers off students beds. A woman chased him out of the room. The other scared him off. He is between 18 and 30 years old, 59 with a stocky build and short brown hair. In vallejo a woman escaped a kidnapping attempt thanks to the quick actions of her friend. Investigators say a man was seen dragging a woman against her will while her small child walked from a nearby car. The womans friend saw what was happening and pepper sprayed the man in the face, allowing the victim to escape. An 18yearold man was arrested and booked into jail. This incident is similar to the kidnapping of pearl pinson two weeks ago. She was seen being dragged by a man on a walkway not far from the site of fridays kidnapping attempt. A little girl was laid to rest. 100 people attend funeral on saturday. The ceo of facebook has other social media accounts like the rest of us, and over the weekend his twitter, linkedin and pinterest accounts were hacked. They say they hacked into zuckerbergs account to, quote, test security. They tweeted zuckerbergs linkedin password. The group says it was leaked last month when there was a data breach at linkedin. We talked about this. Millions of users were affected. The company advised everyone to change their password. The problem is many of us use the same password for many accounts, and it sounds like Mark Zuckerberg is no different. So it is a good reminder for all of us, dont use the same passwords for everything. Dont store the passwords on your tablet or your phone. I am guilty. I know. I cant remember them either. And so i have certain passwords i use for, you know, accounts attached to kids. And then i realized all of this hacking. I have a good oldfashioned piece of paper. A few more dollars. A couple more decimals. Five men from oakland are behind bars after police in vacaville found them with 4,700 worth of stolen red bull. Vacaville police say someone spotted the men wheeling the cart of the energy drink out of Grocery Stores and into a u haul van on saturday. Police spotted the van on interstate 80. The flooding is so bad in Southeast Texas thousands of inmates from three prisons were moved to east texas. The governor of texas has declared 31 counties a disaster area. Luckily, we are not flooded inside the house. As you see, the water is pretty high right here in the land. It dont seem like its gonna slow down any time soon. The flooding in texas has been deadly. Fire crews up and down california are working to contain a number of actively burning wildfires. Right knew there are five fires burning across the state including two north of san diego, one in San Luis Obispo county, and another outside of los angeles. Near calabasas, that is 80 contained. Fire crews say it started after a car ran into a power pole over the weekend. 5,000 people were evacuated but are now allowed to return home. In Northern California firefighters are trying to get a handle on a wildfire in monterey county. More than 100 homes are being threatened. Some people have been evacuated as well. Ktvus alex savidge to talk about why this fire season could be bad. Reporter el nino rains led to overgrown grass and vegetation which, unfortunately, is trying out right now. This is a familiar scene around the bay area and across california. You see a lot of these brown hillsides like this one that fire officials are concerned about. They believe that this kind of vegetation could easily go up in flames, and they believe this will be an especially challenging fire season. Now, memorial day marks the unofficial start of the season and the outlook is not good. Drought conditions have led to tens of millions of dead and dying trees across the state that are more likely to burn. The feds have come in and committed 30 million to our state to help clear those dead trees, trying to lessen the fire risk. They are hoping to avoid a season like last year when we saw a number of devastating fires across the state including the valley fire in lake county that killed four people and destroyed 1300 homes. And again as we bring you back here life, we are in sunol this morning outside of calfire station 14. Already several large fires burning across the state and already we understand calfire is bringing more firefighters on early in the season. The union that represents air Traffic Controllers says there is a problem with stateofthe art tower control equipment set to go into operation this fall at San Francisco international airport. They say the new computer equipment designed to help controllers track planes is not reliable. Controllers need to be able to turn to the old system of passing paper strips from one controltory the other to keep track of planes that the new tower doesnt have the tables, printers or places to hang the strips that are necessary for controllers to use that old system. We are take the highest price for gas so far this year. Prices are up a dime in california in the last month. Police found a shooting victim there and pronounced him dead. So far into arrests have been made. San jose police are also investigating a deadly shooting from saturday night. This one happened at about 8 45 in the parking lot of a strip mall at east hills drive and south white road. Police say the victim was rushed to a hospital where he died. A witness tells the mercury news that the two men got into an argument. One pulled out a knife and then a gun. The witness says during a scuffle the man dropped the gun and the second man picked it up and shot the other in the chest before leaving the scene on a black beach cruiser bicycle. Police are checking Surveillance Video from nearby businesses. In vallejo a woman was able to escape a kidnapping attempt thanks to the quick action of her friend. This happened on home acres avenue on friday. Investigators say a man was seen dragging a woman against her will while a small child watched from a car. The womans friend saw what was happening and pepper sprayed the man in the face. An 18yearold man was arrested and booked into jail. This is similar to the kidnapping of pearl pinson two weeks ago. She was last seen being dragged by a man on a walkway. Authorities say 19yearold Fernando Castro abducted her. They killed him in a shootout the next day. Pearl has not been found. Happening today the Baltimore Police officer facing the most serious charge in the death of freddie gray has opted for a bench trial in his case. Officers Caesar Goodson is facing a murder charge in the case. He is the third of six officers charged in connection with grays death to go to trial. Goodson was driving the Police Transport van when gray suffered a fatal spinal injury last year after being arrested. Prosecutor say goodson is responsible for grays death because he failed to properly buckle him in the van. He is charged with Second Degree murder and could face 30 years in prison if convicted. Today an ohio prosecutor is expected to announce whether charges will be filed against the parents of the little boy who ended up in the gorilla enclosure the cincinnati zoo. Last saturday video captured the 400pound gorilla dragging the little boy. Zoo officials killed the silverback for the childs safety. Reporter other counties are bigger in terms of the size, in terms of the number of registered voters. However, San Mateo County has 20 cities. It has about 25 school districts. 26 special districts. We have over 60 jurisdictions that we conduct elections for. There are no other counties in the bay area that match us with respect to that volume of jurisdictions and i would venture to say we are one of the busiest in the state of california.
