Reporter we spoke with the battalion chief and they are not certain whether all of these car fires are connected but they consider the two in brentwood overnight suspicious and the battalion chief said this is not normal to have two car fires happening within a mile apart within 10 minutes. We spoke with the homeowner and luckily he and the family were able to get out safely thanks to the quick thinking of the neighbor. The neighbor was getting ready to go to work and saw the car on fire, ran over and knocked on the door to make sure that everyone in the house got out. The homeowner said this was very frightening because he is two young kids were asleep in the bedrooms right above the garage. 10 minutes prior to the fire being reported we have video of the scene at the other fire that happened in brentwood on highland way at 3 30 am. The owners of the car that caught on fire are out of town so no one was injured. The neighbors heard the commotion came outside and the neighbor also called 911 to report the fire. It was about 3 30 am and i heard the car alarm going off in a big boom. I woke up immediately and i saw the fire. Reporter investigators rat the scene both fires this morning and they told us they are considering these car fires suspicious because they happened within a mile from each other within 10 minutes from 3 20 am to 3 30 am. Over the course of the week there have been at least three other car fires in the western part of Contra Costa County from martinez, walnut creek and lafayette. We asked the battalion chief if they believe the car fires are all connected and they are looking into the possibility. They have handed over the information to the Contra Costa County fire investigator.
