All because of an overturned big rig. Were going to show it to you here, kind of off in the distance. Were going to show you what were talking about. Westbound 580 just east of north greenville road. You can see that that big rig, you may be able to tell the fully loaded tractortrailer is still spread out on its side, blocking nearly every lane, nearly every westbound lane, traffic is sneaking by on that far right lane and the right hand shoulder, thats the only way traffic is getting through. So you can well imagine the backup is just incredible. We sat in it for over an hour this morning and its going all the way back over Altamont Pass into tracy. Traffic at a standstill nearly. Bumpertobumper traffic coming over the hill because of this crash that happened just after 2 00 this morning. Youve got to think whether likely played a role here, a big rig and a couple other cars got involved in this crash. The big rig fully loaded according to the chp. Flipped over onto its side, blocking all the lanes. They have one tow truck that we saw out here at the scene. So they are going to try to start the process of getting this big rig up right and moved out of the way. Of course it is a slow process as all of those folks sitting sitting in this traffic well know. Its a very slow process. Chp is trying to get these back open as quick as they can. But it doesnt look like the big rig is going anywhere anytime soon. So the best advice we can give is just just to avoid this area altogether. We say that a lot. Easier said than done. But i was looking off the freeway and some of the side roads, it was all bumperto bumper. Everywhere we look. Traffic at a standstill. Ive gotten tweets, people that they are using alternate routes. A busy morning, students at College Park High school in Pleasant Hill are devastated about deadly weekend crash that killed two students from that school and seriously injured another. Ktvus allie rasmus is at the school to tell us what may have led to that crash. Reporter it may have been a case of a teen driver being overtired and possibly falling asleep at the wheel. Investigators are looking into whether she had a provisional license or not. If she did, she shouldnt have been driving with other teens. As investigators try to piece together some answers, classmates of the three teens impacted by this crash are going to be getting some of the services of grief counselors a little later on this morning. This crash happened 3 00 a. M. Early sunday morning on Franklin Canyon road in martinez. Chp says drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. Instead investigators say the driver told them she had fallen asleep at the wheel when she veered off the road and hit a tree going 60 miles an hour. Her two teen passengers were killed. The driver hospitalized in serious condition. Everyone was either 16 or 17 years old. Thats a dangerous road to be traveling on especially at night. I have a hard time during the day. I stopped by where the crash happened, paid my respects. And i was at the service. And it was really, like, heart wrenching both times. So trying to keep it in. Reporter last night, friends and students attended a Memorial Service at a church in honor of the teen. The service that young man was referring to. Grief counselors will be on on hand to help students cope with the loss. Administrators sent an email out to parents over the weekend letting them know that those grief counselors would be available to students here for quote, as long as they are needed. An average couple who are visiting San Francisco say they were taking their daughters small dogs out for a walk when they were attacked. They told an irish newspaper a group of at least 12 raccoons attacked them and the dogs. The woman says she had to get a rabies shot. It is the second raccoon attack in the Richmond District since the beginning of september. The latest was near 41st and anza street. Animal control is talking with wildlife experts about what else they can do to prevent further raccoon attacks. Jury selection is scheduled to start today in the trial of the man accused of being the former head of San Franciscos chinatown crime gang. Federal agents arrested raymond chow on racketeering charges in march of last year. House as he is a former gang leader who has turned his life around. But prosecutors say he led a Group Responsible for extortion, Money Laundering and drug trafficking. Its expected to take a week to choose the jury. Several other people have already entered guilty pleas to related charges. A humpback whale is free once again after rescuers took two days to untangle it from hundreds of feet of rope and fishing line. The 45foot whale was first spotted up the california coast on friday. Near los angeles and seaworld, crews were sent in to track it down. In the end more than 300 feet of fishing line was removed. So far at least 50 whales have had to be rescued this year. The Los Angeles Times reports warmer ocean waters and scarce food resources may be to blame for the entitlement with whales becoming more daring to find prey, also coming in close to the shore. Investigators say the woman managed to sneak into the zoo on halloween night. While there, she reached into the tiger enclosure to pet one of the big cats and it bit her. Chp just put out three lanes now open, two lanes closed on westbound 580 from the big rig accident. The three right lanes open, the two left lanes remain shut down and this is because of a big rig that flipped over, fully loaded by the way at about 2 20. Westbound near greenville road. Delays have been 180, 200 minutes. People have been avoided it. One of the ways to get around, people have been using highway 4 as you get through brentwood and using highway 4 through concord but thats not really great either because you run into all the slow traffic there. So if you can, if you have discretion, probably the best thing would be to not go until the open up all the lanes at least. Sometimes thats impossible. Let me move the maps a little bit. This is a look at the bay bridge, toll plaza. Traffic is going to be busy. We have a very heavy traffic all over the place. Heavy traffic in nevada, san rafael, look at nevada into san rafael, stop and go traffic down here, hercules to richmond, everywhere is going to be slow. One last thing, take a look at san jose northbound 280. Traffic slow up to highway 17. A lot of fender benders in the south bay as well. 6 34, lets go back to the desk. Weve been seeing the steady rain throughout the morning in many places in the bay area. Weve been taking a look at it. There was a steady rain overnight and earlier, but right now, its barely even misting. I dont feel anything right now. Something to watch out from earlier is that because of that steady rain, it was causing flooding in some areas. We found flooding at 280 northbound near the seven connector. Weve had some crews in the last hour who remodeling that up. Lets take a look at what we shot earlier. Here is a look at 880 southbound. Depending on what area you are in, you might need to use your wipers. Definitely slow down. Weve been traveling between 40 to 50 Miles Per Hour on the freeway this morning. Darting around, following accidents that have have been popping up on the chp traffic site. A lot of solo vehicle accidents and fender benders already on 280 and 17. So far, no serious injuries. Officers have been able to clear the roads quickly, but speaking of highway 17, thats an area to watch because of all the curves and we were out there earlier. Very dark and slick, its been so long that we have gotten a good soaking but it can take some time to get used to when you are behind the wheel. We spoke to a big rig driver traveling from sacramento to say traveling from sacramento to san jose. I worry about mainly, other drivers, the way they panic when it barely starts raining. Some people dont understand the first time raining out there, slippery out here. So they are still driving pretty fast. Cutting through traffic. Its dangerous because im driving a truck. Reporter there are numerous areas as i mentioned where water is collecting on the side of the road. If you drive through there, very quickly, you may hydroplane. So slow down to prevent that. San Francisco State University Police are warning students keep their eyes open. This after an attack by three women that injured another woman. Reporter still plenty of Unanswered Questions but what we do know is that this happened over the weekend. Very near where were standing, mary ward hall. It also happened near a where were standing, 800 block of font boulevard. Just after 1 00 a. M. On sunday, a woman and her friend were walking on the sidewalk near where we mentioned where three other women nearby hanging out next to their cars, the three women are the suspects, they approached the two, some type of verbal altercation with yelling involved according to police. One of the three women took out a mini baseball bat and started beating on the victim several times. The suspects got away with the victims stuff leaving her with injuries to her face and several aberrations. Police say one of the attackers is between 1820 years old with shoulderlength hair, and lip studs on her lower lip. She was wearing a giants t shirt and high heels. The second woman described as having curly, shoulderlength hair and large bamboo earrings. No description of a third suspect. Also pretty vague description as well of the car the suspect got away in. Described as getting away in a white fourdoor car and a black fourdoor car as well. Of course is woodfox as we find out more we will definitely pass that along to you this morning. Back to you. The council is expected to talk wednesday about imposing a temporary freeze on rent increases and evictions without just cause. It will hear the results of a study on alameda rental market which was ordered after people complained that rising rents were forcing them from their homes. According to the real estate data firm zillow, alameda countys median rent is 2800 a month. The state wants your input for a new study on the possible Health Impacts related to Synthetic Turf fields. The office of Environmental Health hazard assessment will hold the first of three workshops today. You are invited to learn more about the study and give your opinions and suggestions. Chipotle announced it is temporarily closing 43 restaurants in the Pacific Northwest because of a reported e. Coli outbreak. More than 20 people have become sick in seattle and portland. The exact source of contamination has not been determined, but Officials Say expect the number of cases to rise as more people learn about the outbreak and go to get tested. We certainly expect people can still become ill even if the risk is no longer present because the incubation period can be up to 10 days. Chipotle has no plans to close restaurants outside washington and oregon. There is no evidence of a link to any other locations. San francisco will put lauras law into effect today. Mayor edley signed last year. The law allows judges to force severely mentally ill people to get treatment. The law is named from 19year old Mental Health worker laura wilcox. She was shot to death by a mentally ill man who resisted efforts to get him into treatment. California past lauras law in 2002 but let left it up to individual counties to decide whether to implement it. So far the other county that has adopted it is contra costa. A former High School Security guard is due to be sentenced later this morning for attacking a student in a wheelchair. That assault in may of last year was caught on School Security cameras. The student who was attacks suffers from cerebral palsy. In july a jury found 24year old Michelle Mitchell of guilty of felony assault. A judge could sentence him to as much as four years in is in. There is more embarrassment for the Santa Clara County sheriffs department. Two deputies have been arrested after separate investigations. Deputy ryan sons was arrested a misdemeanor counts. He is accused of gaining access to confidential records of someone he had a personal relationship with. Deputy Mark Navarette is accused of Workers Compensation fraud.
