Sal, i know you have road closures but what about 580 . Yeah. Basically highway 129 is going to be closed in that whole area. Unless you need to be up there. Were advising you to avoid it. Closer to home if youre trying to take a car to the airport, if youre trying to get to the airport using the car northbound 101 at millbrae there is a crash. Its blocking several lanes. We actually had a viewer drive by and say what an awful mess on northbound 101. Coming out of san mateo and burlingame heading up to millbrae avenue where that crash is. Remember weve had bad traffic on westbound 580. We had an earlier crash. But traffic is much slower than usual from tracy all the way to dublin this morning. And were looking at contra costa county. Highway 4 is also very slow. Kind of early. Antioch and also pittsburg and bay point. 80 is backed up from beyond highway 4. That is being added to your afternoon commute. So just be aware of that. 6 34 lets go back to the desk. We are still talking about the big fire. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed in the valley fire. At least one person has been killed. The valley fire is still burning and its just the latest in a series of devastating fires in lake county and the surrounding areas. We do have Live Team Coverage for you this morning. Brian flores is up in napa county. Allie. Reporter one of the cal fire battalion chiefs said one of the challenges with this fire is it has spread in all Different Directions. The fires path has been pretty erratic and you can see that behind us on this canyon here. Were on highway 29 near western mine road. This is a couple miles north. Now you can see that we first came out here to get some pictures when it was 3 30 this morning and the fire was a little bit higher up on that ridge. There is not a lot of wind. The valley fire has become one of the most destructive wild fires. 50,000 acres burned. Zero containment. According to a cal fire there has been at least 1,000 structures burned including at least 400 homes. But he added that is a conservative estimate. It will be very challenging for fire crews to fully assess the damage. This area is pretty evident these were homes. However up in the rural areas it could have been a shop, it could have been a residence. It will take time to determine what building was. The destruction is not limited to the rural areas of course. This is what is left of an apartment complex. The two story apartment the structure that was highway completely burned to the ground. We have a picture to show you what this apartment looked like from the fire. You can see from the two pictures side by side how destructive the fire was. We were driving through there this morning. Its startling to see how the fire jumped from 12 houses and spared the house right across the street. Again that is one of the challenges out here. There are several cal fire trucks out here on stand by. You can see now that the sun is up, you can see one of them out in the distance. Again where we are is highway 29 near western mine road and shady grove road. So there are still crews out here keeping an eye on things and were hoping to get an update later on this morning on how many acres have burned over night. Pam and dave back to you. Alex savidge in middletown, thank you. Ktvu fox 2 brian flores continuing Live Team Coverage for you. Youre at one of the evacuation centers. How are people doing this morning brian . Ive got to tell you, dave. Honestly they are exhausted. They are tired. They are also overwhelmed by the amount of generosity they have seen from this Main Evacuation Center for the valley fire. Youre taking a look now as sid my camera man pans around. You can see them getting a cup of coffee. Others getting other supplies they need. That is really the case here. There has been an innovation taste of a lot of supplies. Some are sleeping in motor homes. Others are simply using their car as shelter. They are awaiting word on whether their home is Still Standing and when they will be able to return to their neighborhoods. We heard from alex savidge earlier that it could be tomorrow at the earliest. Evacuees here are doing the best they can with what they have. They are still in shock with how quick the fire spread. One person i spoke with said the fire may reach the home in about an hour. At first when the fire broke out on saturday. His home was near highway 175 near bogs mountain. He said it reached the ridge line in 15 minutes. He said he stayed until the very last minute and was able to save his home. I have Farm Equipment and i have cut a huge fire break around it and i stayed until i ran out of water and we ran out of electricity. You wake up in the morning and you go, okay everything is out. And then it hits you. And you just go okay. What can you do at this point . You can move forward or you can sit there. And i have a beautiful wife and a loving family so pretty much what you need. Reporter now that couple you heard from say they lost their home. They live on stone ridge road in the Hidden Valley lake area. They lived at that home for five years. They were not able to save some of the more important things like pictures and important papers. Even the ashes of their late parents. But they tell me they are in good spirits. The husband said they saved each other which is the most important part. The red cross shelter will remain open as needed until evacuees are able to return home. As we take you back out here live. Several people waking up this morning. Probably a rough night for many of them. But i talked to quite a few other people as well. Many who have families out here who say they are treating this like a camping trip. They have tents pitched out here. They brought their motor homes. Several brought tents. There is a person who brought their dog as well. The red cross says they have been indated with donations. Donations of several different things. Water, food, pet food supply. They have enough to last for a couple of days. What they are asking for is any cash donations that way if the situation changes, if the fire gets worse. Were crossing our fingers that does not happen. That way the red cross can use that money to filter to what the evacuees need at that time. Many are simply waiting to hear word on whether they can return to their neighborhoods and whether their homes are standing. Dave, back to you. You really told the story about the fact that it doesnt seem real to the folks out there. Like what had just happened to our lives . Reporter its simply unbelievable to hear some of these stories. I mean people, ive got to tell you on the other side of it ive had four people come up to me in tears and telling me they have never seen that much generosity. That is what happens whether they are manmade or Natural Communities come together. This is exactly what the city of calistoga has done to welcome open arms. Thank you for update from the napa county fairgrounds. We have been getting a lot of photos from the valley fire. A lot shows the extensive damage left behind like this. Others share the scaring moments from the evacuations with structures on fire like this. We want to see your photos as well. Please share them with us on our facebook, instagram, and twitter pages. Just use ktvu. We just got an update on that fire. 61,000 acres for the valley fire and it was zero percent contained. We are now hearing 5 contained. We also have an update now on the other fire that is burning in the sierra foothills. Cal fire now says the butte fire is 30 contained with crews making Good Progress over night there. It has burned though more than 71,000 acres in the gold country. This is rural amador and calveras counties. At least 86 homes have been destroyed in that fire. 6400 structures remain threatened.
