And snow, finally turned to snow in the sierra nevada. It will be a tough commute for many. A lot of enhancement here especially up towards the north bay. Cold air coming in, looks like a low is forming off the coast. Take a swath of rain anywhere you want, sierra finally getting snow. It has turned green. Rain turned to snow especially at truckee. Its snowing in truckee, starting before 5 00 a. M. , well take that. It was rain heavy rain for a while. Trying to update these as fast as i can. 49, john lindsay. Jet stream support, all here. Rainy day, temperatures 50s for some in the Higher Elevations, 60s for others. All right, sal. Tough monday. You knew it would happen. Thats right. One of the worst commutes is this commute on 580 westbound. We have a crash that is blocking the lanes. In fact blocking all of the lanes. 580 at greenville, a truck overturned. They are trying to write the truck and also a diesel spill. In this back up, alex savidge is on the phone with us. In a live truck trying to get through to perhaps get pictures of it. Alex, you are barely moving on 580. Are you moving at all . Reporter at this current time, we are not moving. No. We started to crawl along in the stands bill for about 15 minutes or so before that, when they shut down all of the things westbound 580 east of north greenville road because it is overturned, fully loaded tractortrailer. We understand it was fully loaded. Unclear what was inside of it. It flipped over onto its side and obviously causing an incredible back up through the ultimate pass. Were talking miles and miles of bumpertobumper traffic all of the side roads backed up as well this morning. Getting through here is just an absolute nightmare. We have been sitting in traffic for about the last hour or so. Weve gone maybe three quarters of a mile. Hard to say. We still have another mile until we get anywhere close to where this crash is. Its going to take you a while. One of the things i wanted to ask you is an people completely stopped and out of their cars were just kind of moving along inch by inch at this point . No. I havent seen people getting out of their cars yet. Although part of that may be the fact we have wet weather this morning so its kind of rainy and a little bit more comfortable to be inside your car than outside. But there have been points where everybody has been just at a standstill for 10, 15 minutes at a time. And that is pretty standard out here for westbound 580 this morning. This backup is one of the worst ive seen in quite some time. Alex savidge, reporting live in the news van, trying to get to the accident scene. Caught up in that big traffic. Thank you. Were going to let you know more as soon as we find out. Again, the traffic is backed up. We dont recommend using 580 before greenville road. I would use highway 4 or perhaps 12 but dont use interstate 580. If you are getting on the freeway after greenville, its a decent drive, remember its raining out there. Lets take a look at some of these other pictures. Wet roads, about 530, you can see traffic moderately heavy. All that traffic on the also want pass not coming in, may make it lighter downstream, if you will. 280 in san jose, thats been some rain there, steve has mentioned northbound 280 is going to be okay so far but some pretty heavy rain coming through the area. Something out there. Some parts of the bay area have had steady rain for a couple hours. Janine de la vega in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Youve seen some rain up there too . Reporter yes. Actually we just came back from the Santa Cruz Mountains because we heard of some traffic collisions that were happening here. We are actually now in downtown san jose. We want to move around a lot today. Where the rain is coming down, pretty steady, we did want to stop on interstate 280 northbound near the 87 connector but we couldnt because it was too dangerous. With roadway flooding there, already caltrans crews trying to clean that up. But a lot of ponding going down there. Lets go to video we shot earlier this morning. Thats there in the Santa Cruz Mountains. That area on highway 17, near the summit, 17 because of the curves and where the roads are very slick, its an area where accidents happen a lot. One happened at 3 30 a. M. Luckily there was no injuries but it was blocking one of the lanes there for quite some time. Thats been cleared up. Actually misting up there, raining a lot heavier here in san jose. We also have some footage by photographer george bustos, heading south on 880 from the east bay coming down to san jose. So ever since i woke up at 2 00 a. M. , in san jose, it has been raining. So make sure when you are out there, slowdown, give yourself lots of time. Theres been traffic collisions. A lot of them have been noninjuries. Its been so low vehicles, a couple fender benders, but we imagine as the rain continues, its going to happen a lot more often. Give yourself some extra time heading out on the roads. Back to you guys in the studio. Janine de la vega in san jose, be careful too. 5 46. Some bigger problems out there as well. Absolutely. As a matter of fact, traffic has been moving so slowly its taking the computers it says 180 minutes to drive from grant line road to the 680 interchange. If youre stuck in that traffic, barely moving at all. I would not recommend that. As a matter of fact, if you are coming in from the central valley, using highway 4 perhaps to go through, a lot of people are using highway 4, people are coming in, highway 4 is extremely busy, almost all the way through from antioch to concord as people have heard about. A lot more traffic on that part of the road and it is wet, slow everywhere you look. Bay bridge backed up for 2030 minute delay although thats not the worst of it right now. Pretty typical.
