Seven High School Students had to be taken to a hospital in walnut creek after the bus they were riding on caught fire last night. The bus was carrying about 40 teens from arizona to a sign language event. They were on southbound i680 when the driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the bus and he pulled over to the side of the freeway. Contra costa sheriffs Deputy Anthony coniglio also saw the problem and stopped to help. There was a lot of smoke. Many of the kids teens from out of state on a. The Sheriffs Department says the seven who were taken to the hospital suffered smoke inhalation. Most were not hurt. A 11yearold gets hit by a car this morning. Police say she was on commercial avenue with her younger brother when a car came by and hit her. She was rushed to San FranciscoGeneral Hospital but her injuries are not considered life threatening. Police say the driver, 26year old Alberto Marquez gomez failed a sobriety test, booked into jail on a felony dui charge. Napa police are looking at more details about a suspect. They were already at the napa home when the 41yearold suspect James Richard jimenez rode up on a motorcycle. Officers say he recognized them and sped away. They chased him for a few blocks before he crashed. When officers moved in they say he reached for a handgun at his waist and that is when a officer fired three shots killing him. Police recovered a gun, methamphetamine and large amount of cash. His family held a vigil last night. They say he was a good man who didnt need to die. A protest is planned in downtown santa rosa today in recognition of the 19th anual International Day against police brutality. The protests begin after an informational session about how to engage safely with police. It starts 3 00 this afternoon at courthouse square. We have more details on racist texts allegedly sent by convicted San FranciscoPolice Officer ian ferminer and four coworkers. The texts made public when filed in Court Documents friday. They were used to argue against allowing him out on bail. He was convicted last december on corruption charges. The other four officers have been reassigned to jobs where they dont work with the public. It includes slurs against africanamericans, latinos, filipinos and gays. According to the court filing ferminger texted we have two blacks at my boys school and they are brother and sister, i am watching them like hawks. In response a text saying just boarded train at mission and 16th. He wrote ok, just watch out for black males. Along with the slur to the black officer promoted to sergeant, he says any bias has no place in the San FranciscoPolice Department. Fermingers attorney has yet to comment. For the first time were hearing from the family of a mother shot and killed in oakland while protecting her children. The family of 30yearold shamille pierce spoke at an event to celebrate her life outside Oakland City Hall yesterday. She was an innocent victim who was shot while trying to protect her children from gunfire in her west oakland neighborhood last monday. Seven High School Students had to be taken to the hospital in walnut creek after the bus they were on caught fire last night. It came from arizona, going to a sign language event. They were southbound on i680 when the driver noticed smoke from the back of the bus and pulled to the side of the freeway. Contra costa sheriffs Deputy Coniglio saw the problem and stopped to help. Obviously there was a lot of smoke. Many of the kids, teenaged kids from out of state. Here on a field trip. The Sheriffs Department says most of the students were not hurt and its believed that the seven who were takening to the hospital suffered from smoke inhalation. We have more details now on racist texts allegedly sent by convicted San FranciscoPolice OfficerIan Ferminger and four coworkers. The texts were put out in court friday. He was convicted last december on corruption charges. The four other officers have been reassigned to jobs where they dont work with the public. It included slurs against africanamericans, latinos, filipinos and gays. For the first time we are hearing from the family of a mother shot and killed in oakland while protecting her children. The family of 30yearold shamille pierce spoke at an event to celebrate her life outside Oakland City Hall yesterday. Pierce was an innocent victim who was shot while trying to protect her children from gunfire in her west oakland neighborhood last monday. Her sister told the crowd it was a tragedy that didnt have to happen. Take a moment and think about what youre doing before you do it. Because a lot of times you put innocent lives at risk. Organizers say the celebration of life was not just for pierce but for many other lives recently lost. We are all one big family and the way that we stop losing life is to remember that and live in that, walk in that. Santa clara police are looking for a man who stabbed two people in a safeway parking lot. They say the fight broke out 4 30 yesterday afternoon in the stores parking lot on the almeida. A middle aged man was killed and his wife in the passenger seat remains hospitalized with what is described as a major concussion. Just like a violent jerk reaction when you come to a sudden stop and suddenly something pushes you. Everyone was just driving and in the front the traffic just stopped. I didnt think i was going to make it. I580 was shut down for nearly five hours. Chp investigators found no reason so far the reason the vehicle stopped so suddenly on the freeway. The young man told eric for gang members getting a gun is as easy as you and i going to a vending machine and getting a soda. He says if he can go back 10 years he will tell his former self the same thing a friend recently said to him. Youre a smart kid, do the right thing, youre much more than this. He said wakeup calls got him off drugs and away from the gang. With the help of others including the church and police he has a new apartment and new job. According to the San Francisco chronicle the trash has actually led to a rat problem. The city spends 400,000 a year cleaning up garbage there. The chronicle reports a Pest Management team has set traps and changed the landscape and around the playground because of those rats. Oaklands mayor joined volunteers this weekend to clean up a neighborhood. Libby schaaf helped to clean up Clinton Square and the area around 7th avenue and international boulevard yesterday. The volunteers picked up trash and removed graffiti. The mayor says taking pride in oakland is a key part of her administration. The goal is to make a neighborhood that we can be proud of. A neighborhood that looks clean, that looks safe, that feels good, that feels like the people who live here love and respect this neighborhood and they expect others to do the same. Seven High School Students had to be brought to the hospital after the bus they were riding on caught fire. They were going to an event for people who know sign language. The driver of the bus saw smoke coming from the back so he pulled over to the side of the freeway. Sheriffs Department Says most of the kids werent hurt. It is believed that the seven who had to go to the hospital were suffering from smoke inhalation. An 11 year old is recovering after she was hit by the car. Police say she was crossing with her younger brother when a car hit her. She was rushed to San FranciscoGeneral Hospital, injuries not considered life threatening. Police say the driver failed a sobriety test and was booked into jail on felony dui. We are hearing from the family of a mother shot and killed in oakland while protecting her children. The family of the 30 year old smoke at an event to celebrate her life yesterday. She was an innocent victim shot while trying to protect her children from gunfire in her west oakland neighborhood last monday. Her sister told the crowd it was a tragedy that didnt have to happen. Organizers say the celebration of life was not just for pierce but for many other lives recently lost. Napa police are providing details about the shooting that killed a drug suspect. Officers say they were already at the home to serve a search warrant when the suspect James Richard jimenez rode up on his motorcycle. He recognized them and he sped away. Officers say he reached for a hand gun and an officer fired three shots killing him. Police recovered a gun, methamphetamine, cash. The family held a vigil for him last night and say he was a good man who did not need to die. We will have the possibility of rain coming to the north bay at least north of Golden Gate Bridge tonight into tomorrow. He did offer a glimpse yesterday at his first ever state of the city address. He says safety is a major issue for his administration. Napa county Sheriffs Office is offering an independent investigation into fridays shooting in napa. Police say they were serving a search warrant when James Richard jimenez rode up, recognized them and took off. When Police Caught up to him he reached for a hand gun at his waist. Thats when an officer shot and killed him. Seven teens ended up in the hospital after a smoky fiery incident on an east bay freeway. They went to the hospital with smoke inhalation. There is no word on how theyre doing this morning. There is new information on the crash in livermore. Investigators say 14 vehicles were involved in a cluster of Chain Reaction crashes on the Altamont Pass. One man was killed in the collision. His wife remains hospitalized with whats described as a major concussion. Its just like a violent jerk reaction and then suddenly something pushes you. They end up in the refrigerator and want to know what do with them. Today we have our deviled eggs. Who doesnt like deviled eggs . Today we have our sun tried tomato and feta deviled eggs as well as our pesto ones. Thats awesome. You have talked about how you are for beautiful things and putting them all together but you have said you want these to be things people cannot be intimidated by. Its actually so simple. We love things that are very attainable. All you really need is your hard boiled eggs here. We have a little bit of mayo, a great binder. We have a little bit dijon mustard for flavor, white wine vinegar will help with acidity and richness. Sugar and pesto. Not too many ingredients. Just enough to mix it together. Once you peel your eggs, you have a couple ingredients and you are set. You can even use a food processor. You can use a bag like you do for icing or use two spoons. Thats the problem i have. You try to shove it in and it is messy. This looks way better for sure. We love finishing off with whatever is in it so people know, garnish with a sun dried tomato and feta. What do you think the hardest part is . Everyone has their secret. Some people talk about oh i like this. What is the secret . Is it consistency, making sure you use the eggs soon enough . I think consistency is important. You dont want them too firm or soupy. You want it so that they fill and lift in the actual egg white. You make it look really easy. Tell me about your book. As it does it is going to allow for the rain line to move closer to the bay area. Today we are dry but as we get into tonight and tomorrow morning, we will have the possibility of a few scattered showers pull into parts of the north bay. Between now and then its going to be the mix of clouds with partly sunny skies. Its going to feel warm and humid. The ridge of High Pressure is shifting a little bit and its going to help temperatures cool some. The light onshore breeze is back and it will be cooling us as well. Into the afternoon today the rain will stay north at least for the time being. Tonight into tomorrow morning we will get a better shot north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Temperatures today will be in the 60s and 70s as opposed to 80s and 90s that we saw yesterday. Into the afternoon, there are a lot of 70s over the north bay. Its going to be a mild one. What this ten year old wrote to earn the gratitude of officers across the united states. Affection text girl is texas girl is being recognized for her thank you to Police Officers campaign. This video is from friday. This is the 10 year old as she is escorted by dallas Police Honor Guard at Dallas Fort Worth international airport. She came to the terminal and they saluted her as a thank you for a project she started in honor of Police Officers everywhere. Apparently she was inspired because she heard about the death of the two new york Police Officers last december. What she did is started writing thank you notes to officers all over the country, thanking them for their service. Friday she had returned from london where she was invited to meet officers there after writing to thank them as well. She says Police Officers are her heroes and she wants them to know she appreciates sacrifices they make everyday. A cool story. Shes not done yet. She wants her fellow students and students at the local high school to start writing their own notes and sending them out. Thats the chain. I love that she throws up a challenge too.
