In pockets, its okay. In others, its great. 40s and 50s. Its gonna be heavyduty rain. Well see if we can get some of that filter over us. The first one, a caltrain accident involving a pedestrian. This one in palo alto. Pulled up the maps. This is the area where it happened. According to caltrain, it happened north of church hill avenue near alma street. The tracks one parallel to alma street. According to caltrain it happened around 6 23. The northbound 309 train struck and killed a person on the tracks, a pedestrian. Trains are not moving in both directions in this morning. If you are taking caltrain, be aware of that. The caltrain pedestrian accident this morning, well keep an eye on that. 280 in the south bay, northbound 280, stopped basically because of an accident. This is south of north of northbound 880. The second lane from the left is blocked. Expect delays. Thats northbound 280 near the southbound excuse me. Near the northbound 880 interchange. Moving onto the san mateo bridge, thats also heavy traffic coming off the nimitz freeway. That stems from an earlier accident westbound in the high rise fear foster city. The right shoulder is blocked. You can expect delays there. Northbound 680 near castlewood, delays. The chp has shut off the offramp because of an overturned pickup. Back to the desk. Thank you. The search for an escaped inmate is entering the third day. Thats leaving people in the south bay on edge. Jonel carter was arrested in campbell last march. Sheriff deputies are not sure if he would ever come back its making some people nervous. Here is a picture. Hes described as peaking 511 as being 511, 220 pounds. He has a goatee, and the word alice tattooed on his neck. Theres been extra paroles but no sign of carter. He was being treated at a hospital when he overpoured a deputy and escaped. Always concerned about that when kids are involved. I hope the police find him. Reporter several hours later, a burglary was reported at the nearby sierra Crest Apartments and police think carter may have been responsibles. Sheriffs deputies say he should be considered armed and dangerous. So if you see him, call 911 immediately. This is very disturbing news. People who have children [lost audio] we just lost contact with janine. Well get an update on that. A man is in the hospital with a serious head injury after another man reportedly pushed him into the side of an oncoming muni train in San Francisco. It happened around 9 00 last night at the Civic Center Muni situation platform. Police say two men were fighting and one of the men pushed the other into the side of a train. A fire dispatcher says the man was able to pull himself off the tracks but was taken to the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. Police say the other man ran away before they arrived on scene. They are looking at Surveillance Footage for clues. Its unclear if the men knew each other. The search is on for a hit andrun driver who killed a wellknown east bay artist. Celeste jewel howell was walking to her art studio saturday afternoon when she was hit by a car on pine street. Investigator says it appears the driver jumped the car and drove half a block on the sidewalk before hitting a metal fence and howell. Her boyfriend brian mason knew something was wrong when she didnt answer his calls or text. I want justice to be done and these people found and locked up. Howells family and friends are calling on the hitandrun driver to surrender to police. The investigation continues. 7 a 6. A bicyclist still in the hospital with critical injuries after a San Francisco fire truck hit him over the weekend. This happened at turk and market streets Early Saturday Morning as the fire crew was coming back to their station after a call. The cyclist suffered a serious head injury. We have no word yet on who might have been at fault but the investigation goes on. Police in pleasanton searching for a man and woman suspected of stealing power tools at a home depot and making their getaway by ramming their car into a Security Guard. This is a surveillance photo. Officers were called saturday night to the home depot on johnson avenue just before 10 30. Police say a store Security Guard detainled the woman but then a man intentionally ran over the Security Guard with the car. The woman jumped into that car and both suspects drove away. The Security Guard was hurt but hes expected to make a full recovery. Apple holding another of its special events and as usual, a company is being the company is being very secretive about whats on the agenda. The chronicle says fort mason is three potential locations along with the current home at pier 33 and the old location at pier 41. The University Says its investigating whether its students are involved. But the fraternitys National Headquarters is has already shut down that chapter. A protest against racism is due to take place on that company pus this morning. Well, floridas governor rick scott has said publicly he doesnt believe in Global Warming. When he took office in 2011, he installed a policy, barring employees with the state department of Environmental Protection from using the terms Global Warming or climate change. Scientists are now urging Governor Scott to reconsider his stance. Last year, the National Climate assessment named miami, one of the cities in the u. S. Most vulnerable to damage from rising sea levels. A law to do away with say light savings time in utah is on hold. The bill would have dropped utah from the time change just like hawaii and most of arizona. This is the northbound 309 train. I pulled up the the accident happened, was a caltrain hitting and killing a pedestrian. North of the church hill there in palo alto. I just got this information from caltrain saying they are basically doing a bus bridge for passengers. All passengers on board the train were able to get off at the stanford station but they are doing a bus bridge now. Northbound 207 stopped. Expect major delays in service between palo alto and menlo park as a result of this fatal accident involving caltrain this morning. Moving on to the san mateo bridge, this is booked solid coming in from the nimitz freeway into the high rise into foster city. See that fog out there. But there was an earlier accident involving a car that hit the righthand shoulder. That slowed things down. So definitely backed up there, close to an hour your commute time from hayward into san mateo. Finally bay bridge toll plaza, solid backup from the foot of the maze. Burned the house. Walked away. Come back like nothing happene. Two women from california arrested at the coliseum in rome. The first thing were gonna talk about is this deadly caltrain accident involving a pedestrian. This is the general area where it happened. North of church hill. The tracks run along alma street. This happened where cal train hit a pedestrian. Car traffic moving through there and just got a train saying they are slowly moving northbound trains in between menlo park and palo alto. Heavy delays on caltrain this morning along the peninsula. Lets move on now as we move look at the Livermore Valley actually, were moving on 280 and 880 southbound. An accident there at the split actually so traffic moving slowly through that area also very busy, northbound 680 near the castlewood drive area near plan near planton. That exit is blocked off. The eastshore freeway, 34 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze also very busy as you approach the bay bridge toll plaza. Back to the desk. Okay. Thank you. San Francisco Police are busy reportedly, they are investigating an earlymorning burglary that had a very disturbing twist. Tara moriarty joining us live near the mission district. Whats the latest with this investigation. What happened . Reporter well, the odd thing about this, while the burglars were committing their crime, they possibly had their child in a parked car waiting nearby. This is the home that they were breaking into. Its currently under renovation. The home that the thieves targeted, it could be that these thieves were after the material from construction or the power tools. Officers were called to the house in the mission delower rose corridor and delores corridor. One suspect tried to escape by running along the rooftops. He hurt himself. Hid and was found by a police dog. The other suspect ran out of the house and was detained by police. As this investigation progressed, officers discovered a car with a 4yearold boy inside. Police believe that child may be related to at least one of the suspects. Now, construction workers said this is not the first time this particular home has been hit. In santa rosa, a 6yearold child is being treed for treated for lifethreatening injuries after being hit pie a car. The child was walking in the crosswalk near Petaluma Hill road and breezeway about 9 30 last night. There was crime scene tape and a childs shoe was underneath a car. Police tell us the driver, a 67 yearold man pulled over and is cooperating with the investigation. There is no word yet on what may have led up to the collision. A man and woman are facing several charges this morning stemming from the theft of a womans purse in walnut creek. Police say Charles Farmer stole the purse from the front southeast of an unlocked car. The victims husband chased farmer to a nearby car, driven by a woman identified by police only as nelson. Police say farmer threw the purse on the ground and ran from the scene. He was found two blocks away. The other suspect was detained at the scene. They were arrested for conspiracy to commit robbery and probation violations. Farmer is charged with possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Well, get ready. The bay areas three biggest water districts are thinking about rate hikes despite the fact that customers are using less water. The Santa Clara Valley water district, San Francisco Public Utilities commission and east bay mud say the lower water usage is due to conservation efforts. The drought is leading the higher cost for the water agencies. Thats because they are having to buy water from the sacramento area to meet the demands here in the bay area. People are conserving more. The bills being paid are coming down ever so slightly. Well, east bay m. U. D. Plans to talk about a possible rate hike at a Board Meeting late there month. Santa clara contract district is due to have a similar discussion at tomorrows meeting. San francisco has not set a rate hike meeting as of yet. Mailin balots are ballots are going out today. Ten people are campaigning for a seat vacated by campson chu. Once one candidate gets more than 50 of the vote a Runoff Election will be held in june. Fans of the 90s show full house recently missed a golden opportunity. John stamos paid a visit to the San Francisco house made famous by the tv show. But people gawking at the home didnt even notice him. The actor posted this photo to instagram. It shows him standing outside of the home right next to fans who are oblivious to the fact that uncle jessie is standing right next to them. Stamos included the caption, these guys have 0 0 of what they are missing. A skunk invasion is causing a smelly problem in the sacramento area. Placer county animal control says this time of year young chunks venture off from their parents. They say its quite common for the critters to creep into peoples yards and tear up their lawns. One homeowner is using Peanut Butter to trap the skunks. This one i had to replant because it was dug up. You can smell it inside the house even if you have all of the doors closed. Vince has trapped 14 skunks in the past year using about 18 pounds of Peanut Butter. Once the skunks are caught, he calls trappers with Placer County to pick them up. Wildlife experts say if you have a skunk problem fence off your garden to discourage them from eating your flowers and plants. Big businesses in bed with several state lawmakers. The free and extravagant perks enjoyed by those voted into office. In less than an hour, president obama is scheduled to announce a new training for hightech jobs. Well, apple has given us some details of a pay hike for its shuttle drivers. Some those workers protested working conditions and voted to join the teamsters union. Apple is working with the companies that employ the drivers and it will help pay for 25 hourly pay hike, premium pay for split smist shifts and will improve the driver break areas as well. Fixing an error on your Credit Report can be a nightmare. Today were learning the reporting agencies will be changing ways of how they handle works. Medical debts which are responsible for about half of all credit issues will no longer be reported until after a 180day waiting period. This will allow time for insurance payments to be applied. Police in santa rosa arrested a man who is accused of trying to burn down a house where his brother and his roommates were inside. Witnesses say the man soaked his own mattress with gasoline, then set it on fire. Then reportedly he walked away without saying a word. That was reportedly after he threatened to kill his sister inlaw who lived in that house with his brother but they managed to get out by escaping through a window. Now, as firefighters were putting out the flames, the man accused of starting the fire came back to watch. The residents identified him as the suspect. We detained him. Police are still trying to figure out why Sam Sewell Alvarez may have started the samuel may have started the fire. 12 people are now homeless after an Apartment Fire in oakland. It started just after 4 00 yesterday afternoon at a two Story Building at international boulevard and 53rd avenue. It took firefighters 30 minutes to knock down the flames. Three of the units were damaged by the fire but the business on the first floor only suffered minor water damage. 12 residents were able to get out without being hurt. Lets talk about the san mateo bridge, where, as you can see, traffic is still slow and go through there. This was solid backup just about five minutes ago. Traffic moving through there nicely but theres new reports that a disabled vehicle westbound on the san mateo bridge near the toll plaza, the left lanes are block. You can expect delays there. Thats been the case throughout the morning. Want to talk about something a very serious accident in palo alto this morning. This is the general area where it happened. This was just north of church hill avenue. This was involving a caltrain and a bed, it happened the 6 25 this morning. The latest update from caltrain is that they are slowly moving trains. They are single tracking trains through the area. There are delays up to 50 minutes on caltrain this morning between menlo park and san mateo and throughout the system. Be aware of that this morning. Want to move quickly, zoom out here as we can along the you can see all of the traffic there. New accident southbound 880 as well near hayward to tell you about. Very busy through the corridor. Finally, 101 san jose, also very busy. Northbound exiting Great America parkway. There is an accident. The right hand shoulder is blocked. Northbound 101 near 85. The right shoulder is also blocked. Also another accident, 101 or actually, 280, 880 split. A lot of accidents on the road. Be patient. We have a lot of low clouds and fog in place. 40s and 50s. Just incredible how warm its been and the beat goes on. Theres no sign of any cooldown. The fog will cool down. Santa rosa should be 63. Mountain view, 64. And san jose 67. The toddler was rushed to hospital in critical condition. But hospital Officials Say shes in stable condition and a Family Member said shes doing well. Three Police Officers and four firefighters who entered the river to rescue the girl were also taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia. Moving onto the bay bridge toll plaza, its also very busy across the near the foot of the maze. Toward the toll plaza, especially in the cash lanes. 25 minutes to get you across the spain. Doesnt get any better along the eastshore freeway. 44 minutes from the bridge to the macarthur maze stemming from an accident on westbound 80 at cumming skyway near crockett. Finally 880 through the oakland area not too bad past the coliseum. A couple of accidents to tell you about. Southbound 880 near 92. Northbound 880 near vargas. Authorities say Jonell Carter yoef powered a deputy on friday and escaped from Valley Medical Center in san jose. The accused child molesters has ties to campbell. Thats where he was arrested a year ago. People who live in campbell saying knowing carter is on the loose makes them pretty nervous. I know if i tell my mom, she will be scared especially with the willow glen breakins. I know that will freak other out and make extra precautions and walks just like the alarm system set. Carter was in you Santa Clara County jail facing five counts of molestation. Anyone who sees him should call 911. A man is in the hospital this morning with a serious head injury after another man reportedly pushed him into the side of an oncoming muni train in San Francisco. This happened around 9 00 last night at the Civic Center Muni situation platform. Police say two men were dpitting and one of the men pushed the other into the side of the train. A dispatcher said a man was able to pull hill off the tracks but was taken to the hospital. The other man arrived before they were on scene and they are looking at surveillance foolage for clue footage for clues. The search goes on for a hitandrun driver who killed an artist. Celeste jewel howell was hit by a car on pine street. Investigators say it appears the driver jumped the curb and drove half a block on the sidewalk. The driver abandoned the car and ran away. Howells boyfriend ryan mason knew something was wrong when she didnt answer his calls or text. A freak accident but i want justice to be done and these people found and looked up. New this morning, a jetblue plane was forced to make an Emergency Landing when a crew member got sick. The jetblue flight left j. F. K. That caltrain that was involved in this accident is right behind me. Its train 309. You can see its stopped there on the northbound tracks. There are caltrain officials and Transit Police talking. The train is empty. But an hour ago, they opened up the southbound tracks so they are moving trains in both directions on there heres what we know. This train involved in the accident took off from the station in san jose at 6 09 this morning and at 6 25, thats when it hit and killed a pedestrian who was on the tracks near church hill avenue in palo alto. We dont know if it was a man or a woman that was hit and killed or what that person was doing on the tracks but this is not a crossing and it is a restricted area for pedestrians. The people on the train were able to get off at the stanford station and the vta provided a bus bridge. Caltrain says the accident investigation is affecting all train traffic. Expect major delays. Were being told up to 50 minutes. Sal transand the vta are accepting tickets. For the total for last year for 2014 for accidents, there was ten. Were already at eight. Very tragic news this morning. Transit police are investigating. Wouldnt doe know what this we dont know what this person was doing on the tracks but well be talking to caltrain again to see if they can give us any answers. South of highway 12 in rio vista. Severe Traffic Alert being issued. Alternate lanes being closed until 11 30. This map is in the north bay, where there are a couple of accidents. Northbound 101 near sir francis drake. There is an accident also on highway 37 on the way to 101 also. Taking a look at the south bay, 101 in san jose. There are a few accidents to report of. Its been pretty busy through there all throughout the day. But expect heavy traffic. There is an accident on 85 as well in san jose. Finally through the sunol grade. Things are moving nicely on way to fremont into san jose. Earlier we talked about a an offramp closed, castlewood. Chp was able to get that opened finally but theres delays on the southbound side of 80. Be aware of of 680. Be aware of that. Its not been an easy commute for really anyone out there. We know its easy to look at, steve. Some mornings are better than others. Okay. Easy to look at if you like fog. There is a lot out there. Mark in Pleasant Hill and concord buchanan says sunny. Thats one of the few locations. Everyone else is saying fog. Although it will be okay. Clearlake, mostly sunny up there. A few high clouds coming in. Its affecting at least Caltrain Service in the peninsula area, near palo alto. These are live pictures now of the actual caltrain that got involved in the accident with the pedestrian. This is north of church hill avenue in palo alto. That train is stopped. Now, the latest were hearing from caltrain is that delays are close to an hour. Passengers they are moving trains slowly through there, they are single tracking through the area. They are investigating this accident here this morning. Side streets moving okay. But very busy through the corridor. Well have another live report in a couple of minutes. 880 in oakland where its slow and go. A couple of accidents to tell you about. Northbound 880, north of a street in hayward. The right shoulder is blocked. Also southbound 880, south of 92. 880 along the nimitz freeway. Eastshore freeway. This has been a pretty bad trouble spot. At least 44 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the mac maze and its still backing up to the toll plaza. Back to you. Thank you. An earlymorning burglary in San Francisco has led to a very alarming discovery. It happened in the Mission Delores corridor, not known as a high crime area. Janine de Tara Moriarty is live there. What do you know about it . Reporter neighbors we just spoke to said it was extremely noisy because police were on the bullhorns telling one of the suspects to come down from off of the roof from the green house you see. They said they were shocked that this burglar shot a child with them parked in a car nearby. This is the home they were targeting. Its under renovation all while the 4yearold sat in the car nearby. Neighbors started to hear strange noises coming from that house. So they called 911. When officers arrived, they saw signs of a breakin. Police were able to detain two suspects. As their investigation progress. They discovered a 4yearold boy possibly related to a suspect there parked in a car. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Nans are shocked that the burglars neighbors are shocked that the burglars brought a child. But they are not surprised that a home was burglarized. I would if i were to rob a house, i would rob a house that has a lot more stuff in it. Im not a robber. Reporter now, that search dog was able to track down one of the suspects hurt and hiding on the roof of that green house. The other suspect ran out of the house and was detained by police. A construction worker said this is not the first time this home was hit. Two weeks ago, the thieves made off with 5,000 wort of power tools worth of power tools. Back to you. Thank you. 8 35. In santa rosa, a 6yearold child being treated for life threatening injuries after being hit by a car. Now, it happened last night near Petaluma Hill road and breezeway about 9 30. There was crime scene tape and evidence markers out there. And a childs shoe was beneath a car. Police tell us the driver, that 67yearold man, did stop. He pulled over and is cooperating with the investigation. Still no word as to what may have led to that collision. Well, not too far from where that child was hit. Santa rosa Police Arrested a man accused of trying to burn down a house with his roommates and his brother inside. Witnesses says the man soaked his own mattress with gasoline and then set it on fire and walked away without saying a word. That was reportedly after he threatened to kill his sister inlaw who lived in the same house ahong with his brother. They did manage to escape out a window. As firefighters were put outlook the flames, the man accused of starting the fire came back to watch. Its a little odd. You wouldnt expect a suspect to do that. But the residents that were here identified him, there was a little crowd watching the fire department. They identified him as the suspect so we detained him. Police are still trying to figure out why Samuel Alvarez may have saturdayed the fire. In the started the fire. His sister suffered smoke inhalation. His brother suffered second and third degree burns in an etch art to escape the flames. A bicyclist still in the hospital with critical injuries after a San Francisco fire truck hit him over the weekend. It happened at turk and market streets Early Saturday Morning. The cyclist, reportedly a man in his 30, sured a seer suffered a serious injury. 8 37. A man and woman are facing several charges this morning stemming from the theft of a womans purse in walnut creek. Police say Charles Farmer stole the purse from the front seat of an unlocked parked car at the countrywood shopping setter last night. The victims husband chased farmer to a nearby car driven by a woman identified by police only as nelson. Police say farmer threw the purse on the ground and ran from the scene. He was found two blocks away. The other suspect was detained at the scene. They were arrested for conspiracy to commit robbery and probation violations. Something very specific, and that is how can we Work Together to build a pipeline of tech workers for this . This doesnt just apply to San Francisco. This doesnt just apply to boston. It applies across the board in every part of the country. Right now, america has more job openings than at any point since 2001. So thats good news. We got a lot of job openings. Heres the catch over 500,000 of those jobs are Technology Jobs. A lot of those jobs didnt even exist 10, 20 years ago. Titles like mobile app developer or user face designer. Now, we tend to think that all. These tech jobs are in the silicon valley, that Companies Like google and ebay or maybe in a few spots like austin texas, where you have seen youve sun a Tech Industry youve seen a Tech Industry thrive but the truth is two third of these jobs are in nonhightech Industries Like healthcare or manufacturing or banking which means they are in every corner of the country. See, theres no industry that hasnt been touched by this technology revolution. And whats more, a lot of these jobs dont require a fouryear degree in computer science. They dont require you be an engineer. Folks can get the skills they need for these jobs in newer, streamlined, faster training programs. Whats more, these tech jobs pay 50 more than the average private sector wage, which means they are a ticket into the middle class. And you all know better than anybody, this is an Economic Development issue because when companies have job openings they cannot fill, that costs them money. It costs them market share. It cost them exports. So they go look for where they can find the people they need. And if we dont have them, that makes it harder for us to keep and attract good jobs to the shores or to your communities. The san mateo bridge traffic is start ing to back up. A commute from hayward into san mateo, not too bad. Roughly around 34 minutes. That continues to be a mess esout there.
