Santa rosa, thats the direction the wind is coming from right out of the due north. Its beginning to pick up, Higher Elevations out to the valley. Sfo due north at 20 miles an hour. Livermore has gob from calm to 9 miles an hour to the north. San jose is northwest. San francisco, i did see 24 miles an hour around the presidio and around the embarcadero, 14. You combine that with that cool temperature and that cuts right through you, for us. Wind advisory started two minutes ago. That will take us through this afternoon. You can see the system beginning to dive down to Southern California. The low is going to norm. Once that does down in Southern California, High Pressure to the north, lower pressure to the south. Around this area, fifth and embarcadero. Chp reporting at least 13 cars pulled over to the side because they ran over a bunch of concrete pieces. In fact, some cars had flat tires. Again, fifth and embarcadero northbound 880 on the nimitz freeway, about 13 cars pulled over to the side. I would imagine crews working to get the pieces whatever they are off the freeway but there are several cars on the right hand shoulder disabled cars. As you can see, the backup. Take a look at the 280 880 split. Still dark. South bay traffic looking really good. Taking a look at highway 4 in the Pittsburg Baypoint area, traffic moving nicely as you approach concord or martinez. Back to the desk. All right. , thank you, brian. Snoor Berkeley Police are investigating a Berkeley Police are investigating a shooting. Alex savidge is live where police are still on the scene. Reporter Berkeley Police dont believe this was random. Two victims were shot near their car on the far side of the parking lot. As we push in here, you can see the coroner is here right now working to remove a body from the scene. This happened right outside of everett and jones barbecue next to a 99 cent store. Berkeley police were called out to the area near san pablo and University Avenue around 9 45 last night. Officers found two people shot, police say the man who was shot died at the scene. The woman was taken to the hospital and is still being treated there. Police the shooter was firing a shot gun last night. That person jumped into a car with several other people and sped off. Now, according to a report from the San Francisco chronicle, the shooting may have been the result of a medical marijuana robbery. But investigators say they are still working to figure out exactly how this crime played out. I mean, they are here in a vehicle. Its obviously involved. But part of the process will be determining were they sitting in the vehicle, were they outside of the vehicle, what exactly occurred. Those are things the investigators will try to determine. Reporter so far police have not identified the man who was killed. They have also not put out a description of the shooter other the getaway car. They are continuing to gather evidence and they are hoping to make an arrest soon ins what the third homicide of the year here in berkeley. Relatively rare occurrence there. Thank you. 7 05. An inmate at a Monterey County prison died after four other inmates attacked him. 39yearold barry story was killed in the maximum security yard. The attackers used handmade weapons. They also say they used lethal weapons to capture the attackers. Story was facing charges for filling an inmate in 2012. Police in santa cruz are searching for the driver involved in a hitandrun crash that killed a father of 11. Investigators say this white pickup truck hit and killed 6 of 3yearold jose lenez as he rode his bike to work early friday morning. Investigators also found wreckage of the truck at the scene. Now, the debris is pointing to a white 2007 Toyota Tundra like the one you see on your screen here. If you are very any information call santa cruz police. The Napa County Sheriffs Department is investigating the theft of rare and very expensive wine from the famed French Laundry restaurant. The restaurant was robbed Christmas Day. The owner tweeted out that the particular win stolen, it would raise red flags if it surfaced in public. He didnt say which bottles were stolen or how many but they do include french burgundies and screaming eagle wine from the napa valley. They are priced at 3,000 and 8,000. 7 07. New developments this morning in the search for the airasia plane. That disappeared off the coast of indonesia. Several bodies as well as debris from the plane have now been recovered in the water by search crews. This is video of crews returning with debris from the crash. The plane with 162 people on board disappeared sunday while flying from indonesia to singapore. Air air shaw offered family members an opportunity to fly over the search area tomorrow. And the ceo reacted to the confirmation of the plane crash this morning. The only slight benefit for the people in there theres some closure. This is a scar with me for the rest of my life. Family members of those on board the plane understandably reacted emotionally when they were told what search crews found today. One man fainted and had to be taken out of the airport on a stretcher. Of the 162 people on board the plane, most of them were indonesian. 7 08. Now, steve has been telling us this morning, the bay area is about to get real cold this week. The National Weather service has already issued a wind advisory. Pg e, they are ramping up storm preparations anticipating windy weather because of high winds could mean downed trees and power lines. Well learn how much snow has fallen inspect sierra so far this winter. The department of Water Resources will conduct its first snow survey of the season. A couple of major storms have rolled through the sierra last month and this month dropping several feet of snow. However, electronic readings have shown that the snowpack is only 54 of average statewide. But todays manual survey near echo summit will give a more accurate reading. The release of a longawaited autopsy report shows Police Fatally shot an unarmed mentally ill africanamerican man three times during a confrontation back in august. Yesterday, protesters marched after the autopsy report on ford came out. The medical examiner says ford was shot three times in his right side, his back and his arm. Police say they were questioning ford about what they call suspicious actions when they say ford tried to grab a Police Officers gun. Ford was not a gang member. He had no reason to be stopped by the police. The civilian members of the board of Police Commissioners will make the final determination whether the officerinvolved shooting was consistent with policy. They say the shooting was more like an execution than a confrontation, the ford family also have filed a lawsuit and a claim against the city. Police in arkansas, searching for whoever wrote a threat on a bathroom wall at a gas station saying, a cop will be killed on new years eve. Police say the threat was written at a gas station just down the street from the Rogers Police department. Its signed with the name ms 13. They are a violent gang. Police say its not clear if one of the gang members actually wrote that threat. They believe it could have been influenced by recent threats against police around the country. The families of drunk driving victims say a new bill that cracks down on dui offenders is long overdue. Yesterday, jerry hill introduced his ignition interlock bill. It would require drivers convicted of dui to install a device that will test for their test their breath for alcohol before starting the car. At yesterdays News Conference, jair hill was joined by two woman who lost their children to drunk drivers. They say in both cases, the person was a repeat offender. He was on a suspended license and he was suspended five times prior to killing matt. I know the man who was sentenced in connection with my daughters death was driving on a suspended license. According to the bill, the number of offenses would dirk tate how long the device would be in place dictate how long the device would be in place. The Ride Sharing Service lyft is joining forces with mothers against drunk driving to promote a safer new years eve. The San Franciscobased company will donate 1 to madd for everyone who pledges not to drink and drive on the holiday. Lyft founder john zimmer said hes so committed to the program he will be driving lyft customers himself wednesday night and thursday morning. Hes doing the driving. Yeah, there were reports earlier, dave and tori good morning, by the way, of concrete pieces on the highway. It remains unclear how the pieces were on the freeway in the first place. But the chp reporting at least 13 cars were disabled. Some had flat tires. As were taking a look at live pictures. This is near fifth and embarcadero pretty near the ktvu station. A lot of cars pulled over to the side. You see a tow truck crew helping to replace some of the flat tires, spare tires, if you will. Again, 13 cars possibly had flat tires because the concrete pieces on northbound 880 morning. As we take a look at the maps now, you can see the traffic backed up from that point. Fifth and embarcadero is where a lot of those cars are but as you can see, traffic backed up all the way down to fruitvale avenue. Expect slow and go traffic this morning until the scene is cleared. The other thing as i pull my map back a little bit. The other issue, just past the san mateo bridge this morning, another accident, a white jeep blocking the number two lane just past the bridge. Its causing a little bit of backup past the high rise on the san mateo bridge this morning. Taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, this looks really good. Metering lights were turned off around 6 45. Pretty nice as you approach San Francisco. Ten minutes to get you across the span. And that bob pretty much it that would be pretty much it. Steve, its gonna be cold. It is. Mostly clear. Concord, buchanan says fog in the area. I know theres some up in the santa cruz mountains. It wont last long. Drier air coming in. North wind will chew it up. Not windy for everyone. The breeze will crank up here a little bit for some. 30s on the temps. Breeze holding up a few of these temps. Fairfield, 42. 40s for many. 30s for others. Its really tonight and tomorrow when we get kind kind of lose the breeze where things pick up and then get cold. Up in the sierra, a couple of inches of new snow up there, there is a wind advisory out there. More snowshowers than anything else. Thats more fresh powder. I mean, the air is very dry. 25 gusting to 35 and 42 degrees. That will cut through it. Napa, 15 out of the north. Santa rosa out of the north. Oakland out of the north. Thats the direction of wind is coming from. Its coming out of the north northwest. San jose, north 20 at sfo. Half moon bay had a gust of 24 earlier. Now 6th out of the north. San francisco ive seen about 17 to 24 along the embarcadero north beach and also towards the presidio. Its a northerly component. Wind advisory is out. Could lead to some downed trees, Higher Elevations or the coast. It will be a blustery and cold day. So sunny, its sunny out there. Wind picks up. The breeze will take care of any of that fog or low clouds. The low, the key on this is going to be the low. You can actually start to see the signature of it forming. As it does in Southern California, its going to wrap up. That will create a tremendous difference. High pressure to the north. Low pressure to the south. Were caught in between. High pressure doesnt like low pressure. Whats it do . It fills it with wind. Thats going to also get more moisture. Southern california, las vegas and arizona. I mean, this could be a good snow event for them. Not so much for us, we get the year air. 30s for some. 40s for others. If it werent for the freeze, a lot of these would be colder. By the time we get to the first, well see low 20s. Some of these north bay locations. Pittsburg was 39. Now 42. San ramon, 39. Theres enough of a puff of a breeze to hold these terp temperatures up. Menlo park, 34. Foster city, 45. Look at the cold air. All of the way down. Were not alone. We have a lot of company. 20 up in tahoe. 29 ukiah. So the cold air moves in between noon and 6 00. Its one of those days where it gets colder throughout the day for the sierra. A wind advisory is out until 5 00. Snowshowers but that snow level way on down. Look at how everything is disappearing. It wont last long. The cold air continues to plunge in here. It will be with us for a couple of days. No rain but it will be cold and windy. The wind advisory is there and temperatures 40s for some. Low, low 50s for others. This looks like kind of a cold pattern for the Higher Elevations. I think the east bay. A lot of cold air in plate. Bundle up in place. The reason why, as we go to video now, several cars pulled over to the side because of reports of concrete pieces. About 45 minutes ago on the freeway. Now, it remains unclear how the concrete pieces were on the freeway in the first place. But chp reports at least 13 cars may have had flat tires. So they were pulled over to the side. You can see tow crews coming in to help. Chp escorting some of the cars off the side of the road on the side street. But the good news that scene appears to be clear. But you will have the slow and go traffic at least for a while. Going to the maps. Lets go to the south bay overall south bay traffic looking really good. There are reports on 101 southbound near story road. A car 10 feet off the roadway, its into a creek somewhere. They are working on that scene. 101 southbound near story road. We take a look near san mateo. The san mateo bridge. Things are looking better. There was an earlier accident past the high rise. Riders are being warned to be on alert after three people were beaten and suffered attacks near the richmond b. A. R. T. Station just last night. Ktvus katie utehs is live at the Richmond Police station where investigators say they dont have much to help them find the suspect. Good morning, katie. Reporter good morning,er to. I just spoke with a sergeant here at richmond pd, they do believe that all three of these cases are connected. They are actively following up with those victims in order to try to catch this robber who hit three people last night and one of those very serious injury to a womans eye. She had to be taken to Kaiser Hospital, which is nearby. Shes in stable condition. Thats the good news this morning. The other two were not as severely injured. This happened after 8 00 last night near the richmond b. A. R. T. Station. In each case, police say the victims walking alone when the suspect approached them and took their cell phone and money. Riders weve talked to this morning say they are not surprised by the attack since there are a lot of people to target who may be walking home from the b. A. R. T. Station. B. A. R. T. Riders say they are on alert. Im used to it. I come here all of the time. I have to be really careful. I look at my surroundings. So i think thats smart. When i park at the parking lot, i try to go out with a group. We believe the suspect that was responsible for all three of those is the same subject. Weve not made an arrest on that person yet. Were still following up on some information that we need to confirm and obviously do some more interviews. Reporter police say the robber was described as 58 to 510 and wearing all black. They are warning people to be careful of your surroundings. They say during the holiday season, when people are rushed, they often have their heads down looking at your cell phone. And they say make sure you have your keys ready for your car or house. The key not only makes you get in your car more quickly but it can potentially be a weapon to protect yourself as well. Extra Oakland Police are patrolling grizzly peak after two shootings there in the last nine days. Police say a man was parked on a grizzly peak boulevard around 11 30 sunday night when two people robbed him at gunpoint. Even though the victim cooperated, the thieves still shot him in the leg. Then on december 19th, two people were parked in a car when it was hit by gunfire. Our time is 7 38. A mass is being planned for later this week. Its to remember a High School Vice principal hit and killed while riding his bicycle. 40yearold herman shum was a vice principal in berkeley. On saturday, shum was out riding with a large group of psychingists in Contra Costa County when he lost control of his bike and was hit by his truck. The chp says it appears he was swerving to avoid other cyclists in front of him. Yesterday, students gathered to lay flowers right in the middle of the school courtyard. It hurts my heart that he wont see any of us cross that stage on graduation day. Hes been there with us every day for the past four years. School Officials Say there will be grief counselors there on monday when the students come back from their winter break. The mass for shum, its planned for later this week. 7 39. Another company that makes caramel apples has issued a recall in connection with the recent outbreak of listeria. The company made the announcement yesterday. It supplies apples to california snack foods and missouri happy apples. The cdc says the listeria outbreak has affected at least 29 people in ten states, including an elderly woman from santa cruz who died from the bacteria. More than a dozen calfire firefighters have been put on paid leave. It stems from an investigation into claims of a sex tape involving former battalion chief Orville Fleming. Hes charged with killing his girlfriend in sacramento. During that investigation, his estranged wife claims she saw a video of the girlfriend having sex with fleming and other firefighters on a fire engine. Investigators say that claim was unfounded but they uncoverrd other unrelated policy violations that led to 16 suspensions. Weve heard now from the 49ers management after the team parted ways with head coach jim harbaugh. Yesterday the players cleaned out their lockers in santa clara after getting the official word they were losing one of the most successful coaches in 49ers ears history. Jed york continued to say the parting was mutual. He suggested that the harbaugh area was tainted by several off the field issues. Since january of 2012, six players have been arrested, ten times. Thats a league record. Six of those arrests came from aldon smith and ray mcdonald. As for who will be the next head coach of the 49ers, defensive coordinator vick and jim have been mentioned as possible dits. Theres also reports the 49ers have asked for permission to talk to this man, todd bowles from arizona as well as dan quinn from seattle. Now, jim harbaugh, hes expected to be later introduced this morning as the new head football coach at the university of michigan. Yesterday, harbaugh flew to detroit on this private plane and then later photographed arriving at a nearby hotel with his family. University of michigan has scheduled a News Conference for 9 00 this morning our time. According to some reports, his deal with his alma mater is worth 49 million over six years. So heres the deal i bet i you get a lot of people saying okay, my new years resolution, clean slate. Lets get going. Yeah. And how many of them do you think have all of the tools in order to make the right choices to actually see that through . You know, they have the tools available to them. Its just how much do they want it. A lot of the foods right here, they seem great but there are always better choice you can make. Its all about choices. Every little thing adds up. One piece of chocolate. [laughter] adds up into a lot yeah. Lets talk about the stuff. Were not talking about chocolate. Have to start in a good place. Oatmeal and cereal. Were gonna start off on how you start your day. Is this good stuff when you are talking about how to eat . Yeah. You know, a lot of people love cereal. Yes. I grew up on it. Its so good. But usually, higher sugar content, more calories and less protein than you find in oatmeal. Oatmeal, not as much sugar, really good brain food in the morning. The nice thing here you can add in berries, nuts, make it superhealthy. And natural sugars. Doesnt dump in the a lot of people think if im already eating oatmeal, maybe i can sweeten it up. Dont do that. Some other choices up on the screen, the oatmeal verses the honey nut cheerios. Its similar except when up get to the sugar content and sugar ive been told that six packs are made in the kitchen. If you want to look good you have to work on your eating as well as exercise. Yep. Lets talk about this yogurt. Im thinking greek yogurt. We have two options. This is not inherently bad. This is coconut vanilla. But the additives, the added sugar. That takes up room. Soap you are losing protein, adding in calories. Here you add in your own fruit. Who doesnt like black berrirs black blerry blackberries. We we are put the number ons numbers on the screen. This next one throws people off. Lets say youve had your oatmeal, yogurt. Youve done your berries. And then you grab these are cliff bars. It can be any brand. Theres so many. What is wrong with these . These look pretty good. One is better than the other. Flip them around. If we flip them around, this one is gonna be higher cal will calories, higher sugar. Just about the same preteen where as this guy right here, i dont know if we can see it we have two different bars. Theres that sugar again. You are getting half of the sugar. One of those brown shoe gars at a coffee shop, thats one or two grams. How much should we have . I put it in my coffee, theat about about thats about it. The less the better. Good rule of thumb look on the back. So many. Sugar. Sugar. I ly like sugar. This is what we put in our bodies but we also have to exercise. Ten minutes to get you across the span. Back to the desk. Thank you, brian. Berkeley police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and a woman injured. Alex savidge is in berkeley this morning with the ongoing search for the person responsible. Reporter well, Berkeley Police are trying to track down the shooter who used a shot gun to open fire on a man and bomb in and man and woman in this parking lot. They were shot in their car on far side of the parking lot. This is right outside of everett and jones barbecue, next to the 99 cents only store near san pablo and University Avenues. Berkeley police got several 911 calls about gunfire in this area at about 9 45 last night. Officers got here. They found two people who had been shot, including one victim who was hit in the face. Police say the man who was shot died here at the scene. And a woman was taken to the hospital to be treated. Police say the shooter jumped into a car with several other people after this happened and sped off. That person remains on the loose. According to a report from the San Francisco chronicle, its possible it could have been a medical marijuana robbery. We dont think its random but we are trying to determine how the shooting occurred where they may have been. We dont believe its random at this point, but were trying to determine exactly how it occurred. That would be part of the process during the investigation. Reporter so far police have not identified the man who was killed out here last night. They have also not put out a description of the shooter they are looking for or the getaway car that was involved here. But investigators are continuing to gather evidence this morning. This entire area remains a crime scene. This was the third homicide of the year here in berkeley. Back to you. 8 04. New developments this morning in the search for the air air shaw plane that disappeared airasia plane that disappeared. Several bodies as well as debris from the plane have been recovered in the sea by search crews. This is video of crews returning with debris from the crash. The plane with 162 people on board disappeared sunday while flying from indonesia to singapore. This morning, airasia offered family members an opportunity to fly over the search area tomorrow. Airasias ceo reacted to the confirmation of the plane crash this morning. The only slight benefit is for the people in there, theres some closure. This is a scar with me for the rest of my life. Family members of those on board, reacted emotionally when they were told that what search crews had found today. One man fainted and had to be taken out of the airport on a stretcher. Of the 162 people on board the plane, most of them were indonesian. 8 05. A wellknown San Francisco restaurant in chinatown is getting ready to close for good. Tomorrow. The restaurant opened in 1967. This beautiful dining room with this vibl views once hosted celebrities like Jane Mansfield and sammy davis junior. The building is being sold. The Napa County Sheriffs Department is investigating the theft of very rare and expensive wines from the famed French Laundry restaurant. The yountville restaurant was robbed on Christmas Day and chef Thomas Keller tweeted that the particular wine bottles stolen will raise red flags if they surface in public. He didnt say which were stolen or how many but they include french burgundies and wine from the napa valley. They are priced between 3,000 and 8,000. Air bnb is sending 1 million to make the world a better place. Actually, the San Francisco based home sharing website is helping 100,000 of its hosts do something good. Each of them will be given 10,000 to make a small gesture to improve the world. Reporter were here in san jose and its been in the low 40s all morning. Here inside the bikkardo Reception Center there are dozens of Homeless People who slept inside because they couldnt take the cold temperatures. Santa clara county is taking precautions to keep those who normally sleep outside safe. Last night the Reception Center opened and staff said there will remain they will remain open 24 7 until sunday. They will take people at all hours instead of a set time in the afternoon. Weve been visiting several locations in the south bay. Earlier this morning at a shopping stuff, workers were setting up stations outside bundled you. The department of Water Resources will conduct its first snow survey of the season. A couple of major storms have rolled through the sierra last month and this month dropping several feet of new snow. However, the electronic readings have shown the snowpack is only 54 of average statewide. But today they are gonna do a manual survey near echo summit. That will give a more accurate reading. In las vegas, would you believe they are getting ready for a possible dumping of snow in vegas . This was the scene in september of 2008. Cold storm dropped three and a half inches snoef at the las vegas and on the strip. Theres a chance snow may fall on thousands of people tomorrow, new years eastern. Organizers of the big Fireworks Show say their show will go on with or without snow. In los angeles, the police have a longakuwaited autopsy report that shows Police Fatality shot a mentally ill man three times in august. Protesters were marching after the autopsy report on ford came out. The medical examiner says ford was shot three times in his right side, his back and his arm. Now, the police say they were questioning ford about what they call suspicious actions when they say ford tried to grab a Police Officers gun. Ford was not a gang member. He had no reason to be stopped by the police. The civilian members of the board of Police Commissioners will make the final determination whether the officerinvolved shooting was consistent with l. A. P. D. s use of force policy. Fords parents say the autopsy report shows the shooting was more like an execution than a confrontation. The ford family has filed a civil lawsuit and a 75 million claim against the city. New yorks mayor is looking to clear the air today with police unions. Its pretty cold here for many. A few clouds left. But they wont last long. They are getting pushed off well to the south as the low forms in Southern California. Some Higher Elevations are in the 30s. They will be tough to get above 48 or 49 degrees. If it wasnt for the breeze, it could be colder. The breeze is the key. A little bit of snow up in the sierra. Been some powder up there. A couple of reports there. About 2 to 4. It looks like things are winding down as the low continues to form and track towards Southern California. The north wind at travis, 41 degrees. Concord. Napa north at 17. Had stronger reports of that up in north napa. North at santa rosa, north at oakland, also down towards sfo, north at 23. Half moon bay a north wind. Some areas calm. Others not too bad but it looks like a cool, cool cold day. San francisco, again, there have been gusts to 31. So 19, 21, 30 along the embarcadero. It will be a cold, blustery day. The wind advisory is out. That takes us some of the Higher Elevations would get over 50, 60 miles an hour. Dont expect that at the surface. You can see the low forming coming out of nevada. Snow in carson city as the low drops into Southern California. Riders, be be on alert. Three people were beaten right near the rich mofnd station. Katie utehs has more on what they are doing to find the suspect. Reporter police say this morning they are following up with the victims to try to get a better description of the robber. In one of these cases, the woman was beaten so severely she had to be taken to nearby Kaiser Hospital to injuries to her eye. Shes in stable condition. All three of the robberies happened within an hour last night after 8 00 near the richmond b. A. R. T. Station along nevin avenue. In each case, police say the victim was walking alone when the robber approached and took their cell phones and money. Riders we talked to say they are not surprised by the attacks, since there are a lot of people to target who may be walking home from the b. A. R. T. Station. B. A. R. T. Theres four things you can really do to help your chances of really achieving that goal. The one is plan ahead. If its sunday and you think you are gonna work out that week, plan it out. The last tip that you have, probably the most important, be departmentable. Absolutely. Does that mean a workout buddy, a personal trainer, people can afford or that or a program or all of the above . Really any of the above. You need support and accountability whether its a friend thats gonna bug you about nutrition, meet you at the gym. Whether its a facility thats gonna do that for you. You need someone who is gonna bother you to make sure you did go exercise. You are watching your food. You are not having diet soda every day. Whatever it is, you need that accountability. Police say a man was parked on grizzly peak boulevard sunday night at about 11 30 when two gunmen robbed him. The victim was shot in the leg even though he cooperated. Then on december 19th, two people were parked in a car when that car was hit by gunfire. Police in emeryville still searching for whoever shot and injured a man at a gas station. Now, it happened on powell street last night about 7 00. The victim suffered nonlife threatening injuries. Investigators are still looking for two suspects, one had a shot gun. The other had a pistol. Financial help is pouring in for the window washer and his family.
