Get across the bridge, westbound 92 there is a report of a crash between hesperian. Trying to find a better location for it. However, traffic will be busy as you approach the san mateo bridge. Lets go to live pictures now. I want to show you that northbound 280 coming up on 17 is already slowing down. So is 85 coming up on 17 and 101 on 880. Right now were getting the first spots of stopandgo traffic in the valley as you drive toward cupertino and sunnyvale. The bridge, thats a 25 to 30 minute drive time with most of that waiting at the toll plaza back to the desk. Breaking news out of Alameda County. A Castro Valley man wanted for the shooting death of his wife surrenders to the Alameda County Sheriffs Department overnight. Ktvu channel 2 reporter, Tara Moriarty, is at santa rita jail in dublin and says Police Received another key piece of evidence and that would be the mans vehicle. Good morning, tara. Reporter thats right. The Alameda County Sheriffs Office tweeted out that their prime suspect feng mi turned himself in last night. We believe hes being booked here. The opinion manhunt for him began after his wifes body was found in the family home friday afternoon in Castro Valley. The couples 14yearold daughter is the one who found 46yearold yunyi zhang. Suspicion turned to feng mi because he vanished after the filling and made no attempt to contact his daughters. Evidence also linked him to the killing. Theyve located the silver rav4 with with paper plates he was believed to be driving. Investigators responded to the family home three times in 2009 on Domestic Violence calls. Right now were waiting to hear what fekmy is being charged with feng mi is being charged the charged with. Well let you know what we find out. Were following develops news in south san jose. Police are investigating what they call a suspicious death. Brian flores is live at the scene. Police are trying to figure out whether Marijuana Plants might be connected to the crime. They are still trying to figure that out. They are still continuing to gather evidence as you can see right now. Were on the 5000 block of eppling lane here in south san jose. Still trying to gather more details. Police say they first got a 911 call of shots being fired here around 9 39 last night. When they arrived, they found a young man in his 20s who had been shot once and he was pronounced dead at the scene. This morning, we dont know what led up to the shooting if there was an argument or fight. But what investigators did find inside the home were several marijuana pot plants. They didnt say whether this was a growhouse. Its also unclear if theres a connection between the hot plants and shooting as well. Several Police Cruisers are here. A crime scene van is here gathering evidence. Police will be here for some time. Homicide investigators arrived on scene, taking away items such as computer hard drives. New this morning, the investigation is underway into a suspicious earlymorning fire at a Neighborhood Market in  oakland. It started shortly before 3 00 this morning at the market on macarthur boulevard near 82nd avenue. There were actually two fires, one at the front of the market. The other in the back and that is raising red flags among investigators at the fire scene. Not only having fired two distinct locations but a locked up building where we had to force entry. Thats rare that the fire began at two separate locations inside a secured building. Faves kept the flames from firefighters kept the flames from spreading to other buildings. A fire at an abandoned building an mare island started this morning. Several people were inside when firefighters arrived. No one was hurt. Crews were able to quickly put out the flames. A suspect now in custody accused in the deadly hitand run crash in concord that killed a mother of four adult children. Now, Police Arrested 29year old tyler larson last night. Investigators say hes the driver of the pickup truck that veered off willow pass road sunday night jumped the sidewalk and killed the woman. Concord police say they got a tip from the chp late yesterday. That led them to the suspect and his Chevy Silverado pickup truck in antioch. We caught a lucky break. Fortunately, the chp gave us lead. They had contact with a similar vehicle which turned out to be the vehicle we were looking for. 46yearold yolanda was killed in sunday nights crash. The 46yearold woman was living on the street while sometimes staying with friends. Ktvu obtained this Surveillance Video of her pushing a shopping cart moments before she was killed on willow pass road. The man accused of trying to run over two San Francisco Police Officers is due back in court in just a few hours. Jeffrey ruano is scheduled to be formally charged with several felony counts tied to the incident ten days ago in the mission district. Investigators say he tried to back his car into two officers. Officer adam shaw was shot in the arm during that incident. But San Francisco police say its possible shaws partner may have accidentally wounded him during the chaos. Ruanos Attorney Says his client is being used as the fall guy in this case. Opening steaums are scheduled in the trial statements are scheduled in the trial of a man accused of shooting and killing two people on Fishermans Wharf. They say the man owned a store and killed two others he saw as rivals. Another recall is linked to a petaluma slaughterhouse thats accused of selling beef from cows that have cancer. The company, crave jerky, is recalling its garlic chili pepper flavor beef jerkry jerky. The recall recalls those with the number 18951. Health Officials Say the beef jerky may contain product from the Rancho Feeding Corporation. They recalled almost 9 Million Pounds of meat products. Crave jerky says so far no reports of customers getting sick. Fastfood workers around the country will protest saying they are not being paid for all of the hours they work. Demonstrations are planned in oakland and about 30 other cities. Now, in oakland, workers will gather at 11 30 at the mcdonalds at 12th street and 25th avenue. The rallies come just days after workers here in california and two other states sued mcdonalds. They say the restaurants remove hours from their time sheets and dont let them take all of their breaks. A businessman has abandoned a plan to ask voters to raise the minimum wage to 12. They put teenaged decoys outside of Liquor Stores, told them to ask people to buy beer for them. In el cerrito, the decoy asked ten people to buy beer for them. Nine said no. One person did not. Well start off on the peninsula. We had an earlier crash southbound 101 at millbrae. The crash has cleared to the shoulder. 101 northbound and southbound just a complete mess driving to the airport. If you are trying to catch a flight at sfo, you need to give yourself extra time. It feels terrible to miss a flight. Just urknow get on the road as you know, get on the road as early as possible getting to the San Francisco airport. I want to go to napa. There is a deadly crash on silverado trail at trancas. That road is closed. It was a headon collision with major damage to the vehicle. One person has been confirmed killed in the crash. And the coroner is on the way. This is gonna be a big deal for the next few hours as they do the investigation. In the south bay, we have slow traffic on 280, 85 and 101. 280 is improving. 85 is not. And neither is 101. Its pretty heavy all over the santa clara valley. Bay bridge about a 30minute drive time into San Francisco. Most of that time waiting at the toll plaza and then if you are driving on the Richmond San Rafael bridge approach. Its backing up getting to the toll plaza and all of the lanes even the fastrack lane. The only lane thats clear is the carpool lane. Back to the desk. Caltrain is sharing some dramatic video of a man who had a frightening close call with the train as he ran across the tracks right at the redwood city station. Janine de la vega is at that station in morning. Youve even witnessed some of this basically lifethreatening behavior, right . Reporter yeah, we have. Theres so many warning signs here telling people into the to do this. But weve seen not to do this. But weve seen people come and walk across the tracks when the gates are down. A train is coming. They dont seem to care and they dont want to talk to us about what they took the risk. The man you are about to see in this video is lucky. You can hear the warning sirens that a train is coming in the background. Several people scurry across the tracks. Just as a train approaches, a man walks across narrowly getting hit. Caltrain is highlighting this close call to prove to people that its just not worth it. We captured several people doing the same thing this morning. In the same place, ignoring the warning gates to beat the train. We asked riders about taking the risk. Im kind of a goodie two shoes about that thing. Partly because i think even if you do it and get by with it, other people see you getting by with it. They take risks that maybe they shouldnt as well. Reporter so far, three people have been hit and killed by caltrain this year. Its not only devastating for the victims hes loved ones but for the train operators who cant stop in time. The Transportation Agency is reminding people to never go around the gates. Pay attention near the tracks. Watch out for a second train and to expect a train on any track at any time. As i mentioned before, there are plenty of warning signs. You are looking at one of them. It shows that its going to cost you 271. Thats the fine if you are caught actually crossing the tracks illegally. There are security people who do ticket and do enforce that but they cant catch everybody. The investigation into a deadly hitandrun crash on a busy oakland freeway earlier this month has taken a trainge turn. Ktvu news learned the driver killed in the crash was chasing down a car thief and we have exclusive Surveillance Video of that car theft in progress in san leandro. You can see the thief in a hooded sweatshirt right there getting into an unlocked honda and driving away. The owner of the stolen car and his friend, then get into a minivan to chase the chief. The two cars collide on interstate 880 near the oakland coliseum. Were very thankful that Surveillance Video did come forward. It will be huge for our investigation. The man trying to help his friend get back his stolen car was killed in the crash. His friend was seriously injured. The car thief ran away from the crash scene and is still on the loose. Homicide detectives in campbell are still trying to determine what sparked a deadly confrontation at a city park sunday night. A homeless man is accused in the fatal stabbing of 16year old ivan diaz a junior at boynton high school. Yesterday, the suspect gave an interview to janine de la vega. Todd tharp said he only used his knife as a last resort when diaz and several other teenagers jumped him. I was getting hit in the head, kicked in the head. I was definitely worried about my own safety. I would like to know how everything started. Why what reasons did the guy have to stab my brother. Reporter investigators are looking into tharps claim of selfdefense and hes expected to appear in court. Mountain view firefighters say a house fire over the weekend was deliberately set. He came to my house an hour beforehand and said i want you to see what i look like because im gonna be in plain clothes. He said you have to do this hand signal when you are confident its your bike. If we have any incling there is violence, well shut it down. They didnt have to shut it down. The seller showed up. She gave the hand signal to the officers telling them it was her bike and they moved in. Within seconds, the bike chief was surrounded and thief was surrounded and in handcuffs. Tara moriarty is at santa rita jail with more on the surrender and the other evidence that police have recovered. Reporter good morning. Alameda county sheriffs deputies say that feng mi turned himself in late last night. We believe he will be booked at the santa rita jail. Authorities have also recovered the suv that they believe that feng mi was driving. The manhunt for him began after his wifes body was found at the family home friday afternoon in tas troe valley. The couples daughter is the one who found 46yearold yunyi zhang shot to death. Suspicion turned to feng mi because he vanished after the kill killing and made no attempt to after the killing and made no attempt to contact his daughters. Deputies say feng mi has twofer registered firearms one was found inside the home. Were not sure if deputies recovered the other weapon. But investigators say they responded to the familys home three times, in 2009 on Domestic Violence calls. Lately, neighbors say that it had been quiet. They are trying to get that question answered as well as gathering evidence this morning from the citys latest homicide. Weve seen officers and detectives coming in and out of the home all morning long as we go to video now, weve seen some carrying bags of evidence. Weve seen police examining a car in front of the driveway where this happened as well. Heres what we know police say they first got a 911 call of shots being fired on eppling lane 9 39 last night. When they arrived, they found a young man in his 20s who had been shot once. He was pronounced dead at the scene. We dont know what led up to the shooting, if there was an argument or fight. What investigators did find when they went inside the home were several Marijuana Plants but they are coming short and saying this was a freehouse growhouse. There with reports that there was another person in the house that may have called 911 at the time. Weve not been able to confirm that. Still a lot of questions. One of them is whether there is a connection between the marijuana found inside as well as the shooting. As we take it back out here live, again, the victims name has not been released as they try to notify next of kin and there are no suspects taken into custody as well. New this morning, the investigation is underway into a suspicious earlymorning fire at a Neighborhood Market in oakland. It started shortly before 3 00 this morning at the market on macarthur boulevard near 82nd avenue. There were actually two fires, one at the front of the market. The other in the back. And that has raised red flags among investigators. Not only having two fires but having the entire building contained, logged up, secure where we had to force entry. That in itself is rare that the fires would begin at two separate locations inside a secure building. Fire crews kept the flames from spreading to other buildings and no one was hurt. Investigators in vallejo are trying to determine the cause of an earlymorning fire at an abandoned u. S. Navy building. It started around 12 30 this morning on mare island way. Firefighters say several Homeless People were inside the boarded up building whens rived on the when they arrived on the scene. No one was hurt. Crews were able to quickly put out the flames. A suspect in custody accused in the deadly hitand run crash in concord that killed a mother of four grown children. Last night, Police Arrested 29 yearold tyler larsen. Investigators say hes the driver of the pickup truck that villed veered off willow pass road, jumped the sidewalk and killed the bomb. Concord police got a tip from the chp that led them to the suspect in his chevy pickup in antioch. We caught a lublgy break. Fortunately chp gave us some lead. Evidently they had contact with a similar vehicle which turned out to be the vehicle we were looking for. 46yearold yolanda was killed in sunday nights crash. The 46yearold woman had been living on the street while sometimes staying with friends. Now, ktvu obtained this Surveillance Video of her pushing a shopping cart. This was just moments before she was killed on willow pass road. 8 07. The man accused of trying to run over two San Francisco Police Officers is due back in court in about one hour. Jeffrey ruano is scheduled to be formally charged with several felony counts tied to the incident ten days ago in the mission district. Investigators say he tried to back his car into two officers. Officer adam shaw was shot in the arm during that incident. But San Francisco police say its possible shaws partner may have accidentally wounded him during the chaos. Ruanos Attorney Says his client is being used as a fall by in this case. Opening statements are scheduled this morning in the trial of a man accused of shooting and killing two people on Fishermans Wharf in 2011. Prosecutors say the man owned a store at the wharf and killed two people in another store he believed were rivals. Hes charged with two counts of murder and a firearm enhancement. 8 08. Another recall is linked to a petaluma slaughterhouse. Its accused of selling beef from cows that had cancer. The company crave jerky is recalling its garlic chili pepper flavored beef jerky. It sold at many different stores. But the recall involves those packages with a number of 18951. Health Officials Say the product may be from the Rancho Feeding Corporation which recalled 900 Million Pound of meat products. Crave jerky said there are no supports so far of anyone getting sick. Fastfood workers around the country plan to protest what they call wage theft. They say mcdonalds is stealing from them not by not paying overtime and removing hours from their time sheet. The New York Times is now reporting that the abrupt turn the plane made away from its flight path just under an hour into its flight was programmed into the onflight Computer System by someone in the cockpit. Aviation experts say whoever changed the flight path typed seven or eight key strokes into the cockpit computer. They say its usually something pilots do to avoid bad weather or congested airspace. At a News Conference earlier this morning, malaysian authorities said the search area continues to expand. The entire such area is now 2. 24 million square nautical miles. This is an enormous search area. Thailands military says its aidar detected a plane on a twissing flight path that may have been 370 minutes after the Communications System went down. But it did not share that information with malaysia sooner because it was not specifically asked for it. This morning, Vladimir Putin signed a treaty to make crimea a part of russia. He signed the treaty with crimean leaders in moscow. The agreement has to be rat tied by russias parly minute to take parliament to take effect. President obama said in the peoples hearts crimea has california has met a major milestone for its Healthcare Exchange and with time to spare. These are live pictures, a news helicopter from komo tv in seattle has crashed near the Seattle Space needle. An incredible scene you are looking at right now. There are reports that the news helicopter was coming in for a landing on the roof of the tv station when it apparently hit the side of the building and then went down. You can see the crash scene. It hit several cars on the street below. The helicopter and those cars exploded into the flames you are seeing here. Were getting reports at least two people are dead. This commute here is backed up for about a 30minute delay. So were starting to count only for the macarthur maze which is good. Some of the other approaches have cleared up. If you are driving in the carpool lane or the fast track outside lanes, i think you will be doing even better than that. Weve had some slow traffic on 880 south coming down south as you come down through san leandro. Westbound 580 is also slow and southbound 880 as you drive down to fremont, still very, very slow. I want to mention the peninsula approach on 101 to the airport is very slow because of earlier issues. 8 32. Back to the desk. Thank you. Caltrain is sharing some really dramatic video of a man who had a frightening close call with a train after he ran across the tracks at the redwood city station. Ktvus janine de la vega is at the station this morning and janine, youve seen with our own eyes some of this risky behavior. Yes, we certainly have, dave. Theres numerous Safety Measures in place here. They have this yellow line here on the platform telling people not to cross it. Theres also different signs telling people not to cross the tracks when those warning gates are down. But all of this gets ignored frequently. And what you are about to see is a frightening example of that. [horn] reporter you can hear the warning sirens that a train is coming in the background here in redwood city. But several people still scurry across the tracks just as the bullet train approaches, a man runs across nearly getting hit. This was posted on caltrans trains blog called peninsulamove. Caltrans is highlighting this to prove its not worth it. We spoke to people who witnessed others trying to beat the train. I saw a group of boys some of them dared to go across and a straggler was trying to catch up and he cut it way, way too close. Reporter heres video we captured this morning showing three people crossing the tracks illegally while the crossing gates are down. And a train is come requesting forwards them coming towards them. Throughout the morning, we saw more people do the same thing. We asked commuters if they think the video caltrain posted will make a difference. In the short term, yes. In the longterm, no. [laughter] i mean, people forget very quickly when theres a tragedy. And theres too many of them. Reporter so far, three people have been hit and killed by caltrains this year. Its not only devastating for the victims loved ones for but for the train operators who cant stop in sign. There will be signs posting the fine is 271 for crossing illegally and there are sheriffs cutes who are here at the various stations. They are the ones that hand out the tickets. The investigation into a deadly hitandrun crash on a busy oakland freeway earlier this month has taken a strange turn. Ktvu news has learned the driver killed in the crash was chasing down a car thief and we have exclusive Surveillance Video of that car theft in progress in san leandro. You can see the thief highlighted here in a hooded sweatshirt getting into an unlocked black honda and then driving away. The owner of the stolen car and his friend then get in a minivan to chase the thief. The two cars collide on interstate 880 near the oakland coliseum. Were very thankful that Surveillance Video came forward. It will be huge for our investigation. The man trying to help his friend get back his stolen car was killed in the crash. His friend was seriously injured. The car thief ran away from the crash scene and is still on the loose. 8 36. Homicide detectives in campbell still trying to determine what sparked a deadly confrontation at a city park sunday night. Now, a homeless man is accused in the fatal stabbing of ivan diaz. Hes a junior at boynton high school. Yesterday, the suspect gave a jailhouse interview to our reporter. Todd tharp said he only used his knife as a last resort when diaz and several other teens jumped him. I was getting kicked and hit in the head with a bottle. I was definitely worried about myself, you know, my own safety. I would like to know how everything started. Why, what reasons did the guy have to stab my brother. Investigators are looking into tharps claim of self defense. They are expected to present their findings when he appears in court tomorrow. Three California High School students and a 76year old man are being credited for rescuing two women from their burning home. The fire started yesterday morning on scarboro place in san ramon. Neighbors heard loud booms and saw flames shooting from the home. One man came to help. Three teens driving in the neighborhood also jumped out to help. A 94yearold woman and her daughter were inside. The elderly woman is still in the hospital this morning recovering from burns. Firefighters are still trying to figure out how the fire started. 8 37. An outside agency now investigating last weeks violent confrontation between students and the police at city college of San Francisco. Now, on thursday, students clashed with the officers after they occupied conlon hall. Protesters were demanding the removal of a special trustee and protesting a policy that required students to pay their fees in full. During this fight, some of the students were pepper sprayed and arrested. The chancellor of ccsf is also planning several community forums. A cal Football Player is one of the plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit accusing the ncaa of operating as an unlawful cartel, making billions of dollars off the labor of players. The suit claims College Football and basketball players should be able to get some of the money they make for the schools. The lawsuit also targets specific conferences like the sec, acc, pac 1, big 10, and the pac 12, big 10 and the big 12. Happening today, the excitement building by the minute. A Police Officer is walking around. The tv station the news helicopter was taken off from the tv station roof when it possibly hit the side of the building and then crashed down. It landed on top of several cars. Look at these pictures. Witnesses say the chopper and then the cars exploded into flames. The seattle Fire Department says so far two people are known to be dead. The prime suspect in the deadly shooting of a Castro Valley woman is now in custody. Tara morety Tara Moriarty is at santa rita jail and we understand you just spoke to sheriffs deputies. Reporter yes, and they told me that feng mi has been booked here. He turned himself in and is being charged with hles. Authority homicide. Authorities were able to recover the suv that they believe that feng mi was driving. Now, authorities named him a suspect saturday, one day after his wife s bod body was found. At the home. Suspicion turned to feng mi because he vanished after his wifes killing and made no attempt to contact his daughters. Authorities say evidence inside the home also linked him to his wifes killing. Mi turned himself into the cal state east Bay Police Department last night around 11 00 p. M. Mi has not spoken with investigators and is currently awaiting his arraignment at santa rita jail. Its unknown where mi has been for the last few days or if hes been in contact with anyone. Reporter deputies say feng mi has two registered firearms, one was found in the home. Deputies say theyve not been able to find the other one. Investigators say that they responded to the familys home three times in 2009 on Domestic Violence calls. But lately it had been quiet according to neighbors. We are told that his daughters, 8 and 14, are in a safe place and in speaking with Alameda County Sheriffs Department, they do say that they wanted to thank the public for really putting this case out there because they believe that is that pressure allowed feng mi to turn himself in. Some were i was buying the ticket. I saw two friends over there talking to each other. It was all my people lurking in the shadows. Undercover b. A. R. T. Police officers were there as well. Eight years ago, 34yearold Chloe Johnson surgically changed herself from a man to a woman. San leandros mayor says he will not support a proposal to fly the flag of another country over city hall. Now, the idea was to temporarily fly the chinese flag in place of the city flag. Well, that sparked yesterdays protest by supporters of tibet who say the chinese flag is sa symbol of oppression. And then last night, the protesters went to the city council meeting. One councilmember said the idea to fly foreign flags is about unity and culture. However, the mayor disagrees. To do it at city hall is a severe mistake. That no longer becomes a group of people in the community celebrating their culture. It becomes our City Government linking itself with the chinese government. After many hours of debate, the city council said that this is an issue they can bring up for a vote on a casebycase basis.
