Golden gate bridge traffic looks good on the span. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. Breaking news from oakland. A baby boy and his father were killed in an earlymorning shooting. Ktvu news has obtained a picture of the child and ktvus Tara Moriarty joins us live from the scene of this horrific crime where grieving family members have gathered. Reporter good morning. Its been a gutwrenching morning for family members. Theyve lost a one father and his 1yearold son. About 15 minutes ago, the coroner pulled up to take away the fathers body. We want to show you a picture of the 1yearold victim in this case, drew jackson. He was taken to Childrens Hospital earlier this morning after being shot but he did not survive. Police say someone crept into the backyard of the house on gormley avenue and shot little drew and his 20yearold father while they were in the bedroom. Neighbors say six to eight shots rang out just before 3 00 this morning. The father died on the scene. Family members say the violence in oakland is unbearable and no mother should have to bury their baby. He was a jolly kid. I know everybody says that about that niece and nephew. He liked to play outside. He liked animals and he liked to play, he liked to play with his sister. Reporter this happened on the 400 block of gormley east of 880 by the Oakland Airport. Police have been going door to door asking people what they saw, what they heard. We dont know what the motive is here or even if there is a suspect description. C. Transit buses are running this morning after a tentative deal was reached for a strike. The deal will keep riders from being stranded by a strike that was scheduled to begin just after midnight. Both sides say they wish a deal had been reached sooner but they say negotiations were not contentious. There was a lot of Mutual Respect on both sides. It was not an acrimonious one. It was a long process, longer than either one of us wanted it to be. But just because the issues were difficult. Union members must still ratify the contract. A. C. Transit serves 181,000 riders in the east bay and into San Francisco a day. Happening today in fact, in a couple of hours, a critical hearing in the b. A. R. T. Labor dispute will begin. B. A. R. T. Officials say a dog became seriously ill and had to be put down after getting into the water at clearlake last week. Officials are still waiting for test results to come to determine whether blue green algae in the lake lead to the dog tea death. So they were watching the developments very closely. We usually travel between 12 00 at night and 4 00 in the morning. This would really affect us if they didnt. When we heard they were gonna be on strike, we were worried they werent gonna be running. So it was either a taxi that doesnt run on san pablo or working. A family, desperately searching for a hardworking single mom. Ktvus pam cook is in the newsroom to tell us what happened and the reason they need your help. Pam . Reporter well, this mysterious case started with a burglary of a home in oakland and the missing dog. Now a woman is missing as well. 50yearold sandra coke was last seen sunday night at about 7 00 leaving her home on aline street in oakland. She told her daughter she was heading out to meet someone who said they found her dog jenny. Now, the dog has been missing for several months now after their home had been burglarized. When sandra didnt come home sunday night, her daughter called police and her sister flew out from new jersey. She has a 15yearold daughter who is the light of her life and is her number one concern. My sister was about her daughter and work. She was not somebody who went out late at night. Thats why her sister is so concerned. She also told us that someone previously tried to extort money from sandra, falsely claiming they had her dog. Sandra coke is an investigatorrer with the federal Defenders Office in sacramento. People in palo alto, you are being told to lock your windows, lock your doors, there have been at least six burglaries in the past week and a half. The first was on july 26th. The most recent, august 1st. Investigators think the thieves are getting in through open windows and unlocked doors. New this morning, demolition crews are tearing down the cleveland home where ariel castro held three young women captive for years. Todays demolition comes less than a week after castro was sentenced. Security is very tight and the the remnants of the house are being shredded to prevent souvenirs to bying e of the victims watching, michele knight. Once the home is torn down, knight wants to build a park at the site with a garden and a statue of an angel. Google did some hightech demolition before castros house came down. The Search Engine giant removed his home from the google map system. Searches for the address now show a blurred blocks instead of castros house. The man accused of driving his car into a crowd at the venice beach boardwalk in los angeles says it was a horrible accident. 38yearold Nathan Campbell pleaded not guilty yesterday. He was charged with nearly three dozen felony accounts, including murder, assault and hit and run. Security video shows the car crashing into the crowd. An italian woman on her honeymoon was killed. Six others were hurt. Is being held on ted to be 1 million. Investigators are searching for a second man who may be tied for the deadly stabbing of a Hardware Store clerk. Surveillance video shows the man arriving in a white car, just ahead of the man believed to be agnew. Police say mark kresh wrestled the suspect to the ground after opening fire during a Town Council Meeting in rural pennsylvania monday night. Three people were killed. Three others wounded. Then they found 38 bales containing 119 packages of marijuana. Two people were arrested. In new york city, an ice cream vendor was arrested for allegedly selling something a lot different from popcicles. Police found Illegal Drugs hidden in the ice cream truck. The man from brooklyn is accused of selling narcotics, including cocaine. Surveillance video shows undercover cops buying the drugs with a hat full of crash. The truck was parked at a pier where a lot of children often play. Nine minutes before 8 00. Americas love for beer appears to be fading. A new survey shows the number of people who drink beer compared to wine is now virtually the same. 20 years ago, beer had a 20 point advantage. Researchers showed people were choosing wine over beer. But a chronicle reports shift could be blamed to Johannes Mehserles supervisor and possibly the transit agency. New this morning, five small grass fires in san jose are under investigation. The fire started near Bailey Avenue off highway 101 about 3 00 this morning. He was taken to Childrens Hospital earlier this morning after being shot. But he did not survive. Police are now looking for the person who crept into the backyard of the house on gormley avenue and shot little drew and his 20yearold father andrew thomas. Neighbors say 6 to 8 shots rang out just before 3 00 this morning. The father was shot several times, according to police, and died on scene. Now, we spoke to the boys aunt earlier this morning who said drew was a jolly baby who liked to play outside. No mother deserves to bury their 1yearold child. The violence in oakland just plainly needs to stop. It needs to stop. They need to pick it up and figure it out, get the guns off the streets. My nephew did not deserve to get killed. The fbi just released these photos of a man they say robbed at least two banks in San Francisco since june. Investigators say they may be responsible for a as many as five bankriries in San Francisco and millbrae. The latest robbery happened last week at the First Republic bank on geary boulevard in San Francisco. Investigators say the men are armed and they are becoming more violent. 8 25. I just got off the phone with sandra cokes sister who flew out from new jersey to help find her sister. This case started with a burglary of a home in oakland and a missing dog. Now sandra coke is missing as well. At the time of the burglary, the family says the dog was either stolen or let out. Sandra told her daughter she was meeting someone who found the dog and would be right back. That was about 7 00 sunday night. She has not been seen since. She has a 15yearold daughter who is the light of her life and her number one concern. My sister was about her daughter and her work. She was not someone who went out late at night. Her sister is a federals investigator San Francisco. Itnow, sandra cokes car has been found a couple of miles from the house on aileen street in oakland. Her sister also tells me that a Good Samaritan found one of sandras phones and called the family. She had two phones, cell phone, one person am, one for work both are in the personal one for work. Both are in the hands of investigators. They are not telling. Family or friends very much information right now or if they found any leads on the phone at this time not to jeopardize the investigation. This morning a massive manhunt continues for a man accused of abducting two children who are the focus of a statewide amber alert. Police say James Dimaggio burned down the home killing the childrens mother and an unidentified child. The authorities have issued an amber alert for 16yearold Hannah Anderson and her 8year old brother, ethan. Family members believe the child found in the burned out home is ethan but police have not confirmed that. Thats why hes still being considered a missing child. Police say dimaggio may be driving a blue fourdoor nissan versa with the license plate number 6 wcu 8986. And could be headed to texas or canada. Police bring my cousin home. Hannah is my baby cousin. Family and friends held an emotional vigil for Hannah Anderson pleading with dimaggio to bring her home. Hannahs father and grandmother spoke at the vigil and asked loved ones not to lose hope before releasing balloons in the sky. Police say dimaggio was a friend of the family who rented the home hes now accused of burning down. Friends of hanna say he was interested in dating her. San francisco will be the latest bay area city to host a gun buyback event. Its scheduled for tomorrow night. Unloaded guns will be exchanged for 100. 200 for assault weapons.
