police are still on the scene of an overnight shooting. it happened outside a warehouse party at teagarden and alvarado streets. alley is live there this morning. you just talked to investigators. >> that's right, mike. san leandro police say the organizers of this warehouse party advertised the event ahead of time online and on facebook. police say anywhere from 100 to 150 people attended. the party organizers rented out one of the buildings in this industrial park in san leandro right here behind us on the corner of aladdin and the parking lot of this industrial park is where the shooting happened around 1:30 this morning. three people were killed. two others seriously wounded. >> the party was shut down. it ended. and as the party-goers were leaving the area of the party, they were in the parking lot and that's when the victims were approached by what we believe to be right now two gunmen that were on foot. they shot multiple rounds. >> those two gunmen ran away on foot and police are still looking for them. police don't know at this point whether the victims here were targeted. but they say so far, police don't have any information indicating any sort of fights or altercation right before this shooting but police are asking the public for help. this happened in the parking lot outside a warehouse party and police say there were at least 100 people at that event last night. they say anyone who may have seen or heard anything that happened is asked to give san leandro police a call. the search for the man suspected of killing two men in mendocino county is over after deputies shot him seven times. mendocino county sheriff tom alman held a news conference to announce the death of 35-year- old aron bosser will. earlier in the day, a team of three deputies from sacramento shot bassler from 40 yards away. it happened two miles from his mother's house. bassler had an assault rifle in his hand. >> i've stated many times that i wish this incident could be ended without another shot being fired. but obviously that did not happen today. i fully support the manner in which this ended. >> bassler's lock time friend did not want to show his face on camera but over the years, he watched the 35-year-old spiral into drug and alcohol use. >> i just watched him slowly lose touch with reality. drugs, psychotropics drugs and gangster rap and he programmed himself into becoming this killer. >> more than 40 agencies participated in the 36-day manhunt for bassler after the murders of city councilman mellow and coleman in august. an investigation is underway after a bay point woman says she shot and killed a man who broke into her home. investigators from the contra costa sheriff's office spent last night inspecting the scene on azore's circle. the woman told the deputies the intruder threatened her and her pregnant daughter. deputies say they may have known the man but no names are being released. investigators did question the woman. no charges have been filed. santa cruz police have arrested a man suspected of pointing a fake gun at a woman and impersonating a police officer. the victim says she was knocking on a glass window at a business on the 700 block of front street yesterday morning trying to get into work. she says this man approached her from behind and pushed what felt like a gun to the back of her neck. he demanded to know what she was doing there. that's when a coworker cameout and the suspect told them he was an undercover police officers. they tracked noah paskus to a parking garage. they arrested him on exhibiting an imitation firearm and impersonating a peace officer. the san leandro police officer is launching an internal investigation after a police chase ended with a fatal crash. as we first showed you yesterday on mornings on 2, the crash happened early saturday on the 98th avenue off-ramp from north 880 in oakland. three of the car's passengers died. another female passenger is in the hospital with life- threatening injuries. officers started the chase after seeing the buick driving erratically outside a food max grocery store. a san leandro lieutenant tells ktvu is appears they followed pursuit policy. >> a crossing where an amtrak train and a big rig collided has no gates or warning signals. it happen friday near discovery bay. the crossing has no gates or warning lights because it is on private property. 37 passengers and two amtrak crew members were taken to the hospital and later released. this week, palo alto police will focus on the safety of students walking to and from school. operation safe passage begins tomorrow. throughout the week, palo alto police will be watching during peak commute hours for traffic or pedestrian violations in and around all local school zones. and in nearby east palo alto, the city council will discuss additional safety measures at a busy intersection where a 6- year-old girl was hit and killed while walking to school. police say torres was in the crosswalk at bay street and gloria way wednesday morning when a car hit her. the driver, a teacher at another elementary school has been interviewed by police but is not under arrest. city has put up new crossing signals at the intersection and say a crossing guard will be there each afternoon. berkeley students are coming forward with a proposal that could end up with a student serving on the berkeley city council. this map created by students shows proposed berkeley city council districts. it features two super majority student districts, district four and district seven. right now, students who live around campus are mostly divided into four different council districts. supporters of the plan say a large student population in berkeley needs to be better represented at city hall. crisis counselors will be at the southern high school tomorrow after a cheerleader went into cardiac arrest at a football game and later died. it happened friday night in los angeles. 16-year-old sophomore angela geddes collapsed during an away game at a nearby school. she was immediately taken to the hospital. gud she later died three hours later. >> high school has its share of unfortunate events regarding youth. we are prepared for that. but you can never really prepare if you know what i mean. so, yeah, it is devastating and tragic. >> geddes' family says she had no known medical problems. an autopsy is expected to be performed this week. tracy man has died more than one week after he was rob and beaten on the streets of oakland. he died at the hospital. he was assaulted on september 21st along the 800 block of international boulevard. he was taken to the hospital and shortly after arriving, he suffered a heart attack. no arrests have been made in the assault case. anyone with information is asked to call oakland police. our fire season looks like it will end early this year. rain is expected to fall in the next few days. while lightning strikes spark some small fires, a wet and cool spring and summer have kept the fire danger low. statewide, an average season has nearly 4900 wildland fires burning more than 150,000 acres. take a look at this. this year, there have been 4600 fires in just under 44,000 acres burned. firefighters warn there is still still fuel and fire danger. the vegetation out there continues to grow. and without any fire activity at of us dealing with a little bit of light rain. this system going to be weaker than the second. overnight, we're watching the scattered showers taper off and then again, the second system rolling in by [ male announcer ] the epa-estimated 42 mpg highway chevy cruze eco. perfect for finding your way home. a live look in oakland. partly cloudy skies. mild temperatures. at least three people have died after a second typhoon slammed into the philippines. storm hit the maybe island yesterday. it has caused major flooding. in some areas, the water is chest high. some people are using boats to get around. rescuers are scrambling to get food and supplies to hundreds of people trapped by the floodwaters. earlier, another typhoon struck the islands tuesday killing at least 50 people and leaving dozens of others missing. the wild storms in southeast asia put parts of thailand underwater. it killed 200 people there and damaged 4,000 square miles of farmland. the water is starting to recede in some areas. workers are beginning to clean commercial areas so businesses can reopen. thousands of protestors from new york to las vegas demonstrated against what they say is corporate greed and social inequality. the group occupy los angeles marched to city hall yesterday in a day-long demonstration. about 100 protestors remained all night on the steps of city hall. they want a peaceful change to economic policy that benefits the richest 1% of americans. new york police arrested about 700 protestors for swarming the brooklyn bridge and shutting down a lane of traffic. the group occupy wall street has been mock the government's bailout of banks and other financial institutions. protestors have been camping near wall street for about two weeks. there are other sol dairy protests in the -- solidarity protests in the united states and australia. a cia contractor who gunned down two men in pakistan is now in trouble closer to home. colorado sheriff deputy say raymond davis beat up another man over a shopping center parking spot. davis was booked on misdemeanor charges of assault and disorderly conduct. last january, pakistani authorities arrested davis for killing two men. the u.s. said he acted in self- defense. davis was released after more than $2 million were paid to the men's families. u.s. officials issued a worldwide travel alert following the drone attack that killed a prominent al-qaeda cleric in yemen. the state department warns there is a risk of violent retaliation following friday's killing of anwar al-awlaki. an american who the cia says was a key al-qaeda operative. the american samir kahn was killed in the attack. a five-year magazine promoted al-qaeda's ideology. a team is heading to missouri to investigate the crash of a navy seahawk chopper travelling from new york to san diego and had stopped to refuel in jefferson city. witnesses say the helicopter was about 20 feet off the ground when it entered a tailspin and slammed into the ground. three people were inside. one person was injured. the government announced it will pay for extra home loan costs for veterans after a v.a. memo caused confusion. the veterans affairs department announced last month that certain loan fees would be lowered for vets beginning yesterday. congress delayed the rate reduction until november. lenders who didn't know about the switch had made loan deals based on the lower rate. the federal government will absorb the higher cost and fees caused by the delay. president obama slammed the republican presidential candidates at a dinner for a major gay rights organization. he spoke last night at the annual dinner for the human rights campaign in washington, d.c. he criticized the g.o.p. field for staying silent at a recent debate when the audience booed an openly gay service member. >> you want to be commander in chief? [ screams ] >> ok. the alameda county fairgrounds in pleasanton yesterday held the bay area's first ever organized tomato battle. participants enjoyed beer, music and the unique experience of hurling the fruit at friends and foes. >> they're just doing it to have fun. it is an event. something we've never experienced. >> what was it like? >> that's exactly what the police are trying to figure out. their investigators have been out here on the scene of the shooting since 1:30, shortly after it happened. they're still out here this morning. you can see some of them standing in the street in front of us and just beyond why where you see all of the investigators is an suv in the parking lot. we believe that vehicle may belong to one of the victims of the shooting because the windows have been completely shot out. three people were killed. two others seriously wounded. and it all happened in the parking lot of this industrial complex on aladdin and police say there was a warehouse party going on in one of the buildings in the back of this complex last night. after that party ended, organizers shuttled everyone out of the building. organizers of the party. >> as they were leaving the party, they were in the area of the parking lot, the victims were approached by what we believe to be two gunmen that were on foot. >> those two gunmen ran away after the shooting. police are still looking for them this morning. investigators say at this point, they don't know the motive for the shooting or whether these victims were targeted. police also want to find out more about this warehouse party that was going on here. they say it was advertised online and on facebook and that anywhere from 100 to 150 people came to the party from across the bay area. police still don't know this morning who organized the party and that's one of the things they're asking the public's help for. if there were more than 100 people at the event last night, someone has to know more information about who hosted this party. who rented the space in this warehouse complex where this shooting happened last night. anyone with information is asked to give san leandro police a call. california's victim notification system is going online. governor jerry brown signed senate bill 852 this past week which allows the department of corrections to alert victims of crime and their families about changes in their attacker's status through e-mail. previously, victims were only notified with a phone call or certified mail. two motorists including an off- duty police officer were killed in a chain reaction crash in san diego. officers say 34-year-old jason drove into a stalled vehicle before dawn yesterday. several other cars then slammed into the first pileup. prokop was running to help others when a border patrol officer crashed into him. the roadway was filled with thousands of people headed to the miramar air show. a 9-year-old girl has died and this morning, her mother is in critical condition after the two were involved in a fiery car crash yesterday on highway 101 in calabasas. highway patrol said the mother lost control of her car and crashed into a tanker truck and the car flipped over and caught fire. >> we later found out through statements from her and from some of the other individuals that there was a 9-year-old female inside the vehicle. we don't know where she was sitting and she was deceased upon arrival. >> some witnesses came to the mother's aide who was covered in flames. they doused her with water and used their smiters smiters to smother the flames. she suffered burns to 90% of her body. two fallen san francisco firefighters were remembered. hundreds of uniformed firefighters gathered yesterday at the state capitol for the service. governor jerry brown was there. he spoke of the fire fighter's ultimate sacrifice. the memorial brought together family members of the fallen. >> that last call gets me every time. it is a great tribute. he deserved it. happy to be here. >> among those honor were stran firefighters lieutenant vincent perez and firefighter paramedic anthony valerio. they were killed in a house fire in june. their names and 28 others will be added to the california firefighters memorial in sacramento's capital park. the san mateo city council is expected to vote tomorrow on a new contract for firefighters there. "the mercury news" reports the contract calls on firefighters to forgo pay raises until 2013. firefighters would also have to pay more for their pensions and healthcare costs and the retirement age would be raised from 50 to 55. the deal is expected to save the city $4.8 million over the next five years. the firefighters union has approved the deal. the city council meeting starts tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. oakland police officers are being told to watch what they say. since taking office two years ago, anthony batts has implemented departmental reform to crack down on profanity. the bay citizen reports one officer was disciplined for cursing to himself inside his patrol car. the antiswearing stands as part of the policing program but some members on the force say the clean language policy goes too far. tomorrow, the san francisco department of public works will begin work on the second phase of its project to bring energy efficient lighting to a stretch of geary boulevard. crews will rewire light fixtures and install a lighting controller on the underpass near the kaiser hospital between collins and lions streets. back in march, the dpw replaced nearly 350 fluorescent lighting fixtures with efficient lamps. they're designed to last longer and save the city money on its electric bill. san mateo residents are facing another increase in their trash rates. mercury news reports garbage bills jumped by more than 23% in april and now they may go up another 10%. trash haulers are raising rates because their costs remain the same even though people are recycling or throwing away less garbage. the council will consider when to send outst ins to ratepayers, giving them a chance to protest those increase. >> san mateo county has sent a search and rescue tomorrow to help look for a hiker who disappeared in the sierra nevada. officials at kings' canyon national park say 67-year-old john williams left for 104 mile hike on september 17th. his trek was expected to run ten days but williams has still not been seen. officials say the area is experiencing fairly good weather but there is a chance of snow tomorrow night. uc berkeley is alerting students to the possible exposure of mumps. it suspects three cases. the students have been quarantined. more students will be isolated if there is an outbreak. people are being told to review their immunization records. symptoms include fever, headaches and swollen or tender salivary glands under the ears or jaw. students in west contra costa unified school district are facing a whooping cough vaccine tomorrow. students who have not received the vaccine will not be allowed to attend class. a new state law requires that all students in grades 7-12 get a whooping cough vaccine. the deadline for all students is 30 days after school starts. contra costa school officials say hundreds of students still have not received the shot. a group of stanford students have developed a life saving device for newborns. the embrace baby warmer is currently being used in impoverished areas of india. the wrap has a special wax-like substance and water insert. the pouch stays at a does not temperature for up to six hours and it cost only $200. >> so, the challenge posed to us at that time was make a baby incubator that costs less than 1% of the cost of a traditional incubator which in the u.s. is about $20,000. >> in parts of india, more than three in ten babies are born prematurely or with dangerously low birthweights. keeping them warm is critical to their survival. they're working on a cheaper to move ashore by tomorrow morning. you can see the center of circulation. it looks like a few hundred miles off the oregon coast here but the front going to move through. we could see high clouds as early as this afternoon and then the rain will arrive tomorrow. so, for today, partly cloudy skies. temperatures will be just as mild as yesterday. almost similar to what we saw yesterday afternoon. but we're not going to see the light rain over any portion of the north bay. by monday though, the first storm moving in. rainfall anywhere from a quarter to half-inch, north bay of course, likely to get the most of it. it begins to fall apart as it moves across the golden gate and into the south bay. just half hour ago, the models are indicating the arrival of the storm a little bit later. now it has switched back to early. feel my pain. tomorrow morning, here, it looks like the north bay could actually get a few scattered showers. last half hour, models were showing 2:00 or 3:00 before it was going to arrive. we could see this. maybe set the alarm clock a little bit early. by about 1:00, it is crossing the golden gate. then for the afternoon drive, scattered showers in the forecast. only takes a little bit for the freeways to become very slippery out there. be aware of this and then for the evening, it looks like the south bay going to have scattered showers. we're going to watch them jr. was committed after a jury found him insabe shortly after the 1982 shooting of president reagan. hinckley said he shot the president to impress actress jodie foster. doctors say hinckley's mental problemses are in remission. he's been allowed to visit his aging mother for ten days at a time. the hospital now wants to allow him to go on a 24-day leaves and federal prosecutors oppose his release. in georgia, 1,000 people packed into a church to remember troy davis executed for killing a police officer after the supreme court declined to intervene. friends and family who attended yesterday's funeral say they're working to capitalize on the attention his case received. they're vowing to clear his name and abolish the death penalty. nba owners and players will meet again on monday after a seven-hour bargaining session where no progress was made toward ending the lockout. yesterday's meeting was the longest since the lockout began on july 1st. there are still two major good morning to you. they're lining up. we're starting about early season storms bringing us rain for your back to work monday. clouds there this morning in some cases. we'll be slightly warmer with partly cloudy skies for the afternoon. those high clouds ahead of the system arriving by late afternoon, early evening over the north bay and then for monday, that first storm arrives. we'll talk about what you can expect for your afternoon today. we'll talk more about that rain and a second to follow coming up. >> three people are dead after an overnight shooting outside of an east bay party. ktvu's alley ras muss is live where detectives remain live on scene at this hour. >> reporter: san leandro police investigators have been here since 1:30 this morning just after the shooting happened. they'll plan to be out here for much of the morning as they continue their investigation. now, a short time ago, we watched some of the investigators. we've watched some of them taking measurements of the crime scene. there is a gentleman who appears to be taking photos of the scene where this shooting happened. three people were killed in this industrial complex parking lot. two others seriously wounded and we just learned that a sixth person was also shot here. however, police say that person transported him or herself to the hospital later this morning. all of this happened in this park lot. this is an industrial complex you're looking at on aled a an and alvarado streets in san leandro. there was a warehouse party going on in one of the buildings in the back of this complex. after that party ended, organizers shuttled everyone out of the building. that's when the shooting happened out in the parking lot. one man we talked to who happened to be working nearby heard it happen. >> rapid -- which assume was automatic weapon of some sort. machine gun or something, i don't know. and i thought it was something inside the building. >> as the party-goers were leaving the area of the party, they were in the parking lot and that's when the victims were approached by what we believe to be two gunmen on foot. >> the two gunmen ran away. police are still looking for them this morning. at this point, they don't have a suspect description to give us. investigators say they don't know the motive for the shooting or whether these victims were targeted. police are also trying to find out more information about this warehouse party. who organized it, who promoted it. police say it was advertised online and on facebook and anywhere from 100 to 150 people from across the bay area attended it last night. police again don't know who organized the party but they're trying to get more information. they say anyone who may have attended this party last night or have seen what happened so give san leandro police a call. within the last half hour, a highway patrol reopened all lanes of westbound 580 after a multivehicle crash that happened near eden canyon road just after 6:00 this morning. highway patrol reports that there may have been at least eight vehicles involved. there is no word on the extent of injuries. the search for the man suspected of killing two men in mendocino county is over. after deputies shot him seven times. mendocino county sheriff tom alman held a news conference last night to announce the death of 35-year-old aaron bassler. a team of three deputies from sacramento shot bassler from 40 yards away. it happened about two miles from his mother's house. deputies say bassler had an assault rifle in his hand. >> i've stated many times that i wish this incident could be ended without another shot being fired. but obviously that did not happen today. i fully support the manner in which this ended. >> bassler's long-time friend didn't want to show his face on camera. but he did tell ktvu that over the years, he watched the 35- year-old spiral into drug and alcohol use. >> i just watched him slowly lose touch with reality, drugs, psychotropic drugs, gangster rap. he programmed himself into becoming this killer. >> more than 40 agencies participated in the 36-day manhunt for bassler. it started after the murders of city councilman jere melo and matt coleman in august. a bay point woman shot and killed a man who broke into her house. investigators from the contra costa sheriff's office spent last night inspecting the scene on azore's circle. the woman told deputies the intruder threatened her and her pregnant daughter. deputies say they may have known the man but no names are being released pending the investigation. investigators questioned the women but have not made any arrests. the san leandro police department is launching an internal investigation after a police chase ended with a fatal crash. as we first showed you yesterday, here on ktvu mornings on 2, the crash happened early saturday on the 98th avenue off-ramp from oakland. three of the car's passengers died. another female passenger is in the hospital with life- threatening injuries. officers started the chase after seeing the buick driving erratically outside a food max grocery store. the san leandro lieutenant tells ktvu it appears officers followed pursuit policy. we've learned the crossing where an an tram train and a. [ big band abig rig collided has no gates or warnings signals. collision happened friday near discovery bay. authorities say the crossing has no gates or warning lights because it is on private property. 37 passengers and two amtrak crew members were taken to the hospital and later released. this week, palo alto police will focus on the safety of students walking to and from school. operation safe passage begins tomorrow. and throughout the week, palo alto police will strictly enforce traffic and pedestrian violations in and around all local school zones during peak commute hours. and in the city of east palo alto, the city council will discuss additional safety measures at a busy intersection where a 6-year-old girl was hit and killed while walking to school. police say she was in the crosswalk at bay street and gloria way wednesday morning when a car hit her. the driver, a teacher at another elementary school, has been interviewed by police but is not under arrest. the city has put up new crossing signals at the intersection and say a crossing guard will be there each afternoon. u.c. berkeley students are coming forward with a proposal that could end up with a student serving on the berkeley city council. this map created by students shows proposed berkeley city council districts. it features two supermajority student districts, district four and district seven. right now, students who live around campus are mostly divided into four different council districts. supporters of the plan say the large student population in berkeley needs to be better represented at city hall. santa cruz police have arrested a man suspected of pointing a fake gun at a woman and impersonating a police officer. the victim was trying to get into her workplace on the 700 block of front street yesterday morning. she says this man, 21-year-old noah paskus pushed what felt like a gun to the back of her neck. he demanded to know what she was doing there. a coworker came outside and the suspect allegedly told them he was an undercover police officer. investigators eventually tracked paskus to a nearby parking lot and discovered this replica and gunn and arrested him on charges including battery, exhibiting an imitation firearm and impersonating a peace officer. our fire season looks like it will end early this year. rain is expected to fall the next few days and while lightning strikes sparked some fires, a wet and cool summer kept it low. average season has 4900 wildland fires burning more than 150,000 acres about thought year, there have been 4600 fires and just under 44,000 acres burned. firefighters warn there is still fuel and fire danger. >> the vegetation out there continues to grow. and without any fire activity at all, those fuels don't go away. >> if anything happens during the remainder of this season, cal fire air tankers are ready to take off from santa rosa airport through october 15th and longer if needed. >> the rock n' roll half 4,000 square miles of farmland. the waters are starting to recede and some areas and workers are beginning to clean commercial areas so businesses can reopen. a cia contractor who gunned down two men in pakistan is now in trouble here in the united states. colorado sheriff's deputies say raymond davis beat up another man over a shopping center parking spot. davis was booked on misdemeanor charges of assault and disorderly conduct. last january, pakistani authorities arrested davis for killing two men. the u.s. said he acted in self- defense. davis was released after more than $2 million were paid to the men's families. >> thousands of protestors from los angeles to new york demonstrated against what they say is corporate greed and social inequality. about 700 protestors were arrested for swarming the brooklyn bridge and shutting down a lane of traffic. the group, occupy wall street, has been mock the government's bailout of banks and other financial institutions. protestors have been camping near wall street for about two weeks. protestors gathered in los angeles to show solidarity to the east coast demonstration. the group, occupy l.a., marched to city hall in a day-long protest about 100 marchers remained on the steps of city hall. they say they want a peaceful change to economic policy that benefits the richest 1% of americans. there were other solidarity protests in the united states and in australia. the fbi and secret service are investigating a suspicious package that was delivered to a florida home on the same street where vice president joe biden's brother lives. law enforcement officials responded yesterday to the house outside bake ca raton. the package dibbed a powdery -- the package contained a powdery substance. it is not clear whether the vice president's brother was affected in any way. >> fairfield police say there appears to be a connection between two explosive devices discovered within four weeks of each other in a quiet neighborhood. the most recent one was found on friday and as a precaution, the neighborhood was closed off and nearby residents were asked to shelter in place. a bomb squad was called out and investigators focused in on one nearby house. >> we went ahead, we searched the house, made sure there weren't any other explosives around or any items that would indicate they pro involved in construction of the device. >> a similar device was found in the same neighborhood. both devices were rendered safe by police. the menlo park fire department says it's investigating three suspicious grass fires. take a look. all three of them started yesterday afternoon in the baylands between palo alto and east palo alto. witnesses reported seeing three children in the area before the flames were first seen. firefighters were able to knock down the fires in about 90 minutes. the cause is under investigation. president obama slammed the republican presidential candidates at a dinner for a major gay rights organization. the president spoke last night at the annual dinner for the human rights campaign in washington, d.c. he criticized the g.o.p. field for staying silent at a recent debate when an audience booed an 67-year-old john williams left for a 104 mile hike back on september 17th. his trek was expected to run ten days but williams has still not been seen. officials say the area is experiencing fairly good weather but there is a chance of snow tomorrow night. wet weather is expected this week and bay area winemakers are scrambling to harvest grapes ahead of it. rain could damage grapes still on the vine causing fungus to grow. it can alter the sugar content. the crop yield is down 30%. winemakers are staying optimistic while quantity might be down, the quality is still good. >> it is like pouring ketchup all over yourself! the alameda county fairgrounds yesterday held the bay area's first ever organized tomato battle. participants enjoyed beer, some music and the unite experience of hurling the fruit at friends and foes. before you get a little mad, no food was wasted. the battle was waged with rotten tomatoes donated from local farmers and food banks that could not use the the monument in washington, d.c. yesterday's planned inspection was postponed due to rain and on friday, a worker was rappelling down the monument when a gust of wind blew him about 30 feet. he was not hurt. >> gunshots outside a san leandro party overnight. six people were hurt. three are dead. the questions police are still looking to answer this morning. top oakland police officials are cracking down on more than just crime. what officers are being told not to do. welcome back. we're coming up on 8:30. we begin the half hour with news from overnight. three people are dead after a shooting outside of a party in san leandro. >> three others were injured. police say more than 100 people have gathered for this party. >> at least 100 people, mike, possibly more. san leandro police investigators have been out here at the scene of the shooting since 1:30 this morning shortly after it happened. investigators plan to remain out here for much of the morning as they continue gathering evidence. right now, you can see that san leandro police evidence van with its doors open just behind that standing in the parking lot is a group of investigators who have kind of gathered around this suv that you see in the parking lot. we have to point out we don't know who that vehicle belongs to. whether it belonged to one of the victims or whether it just happened to be parked here in this parking lot last night. you can see that some of the windows were shot out. a total of three people were killed in this parking lot last night. two others seriously wounded. a sixth person was shot. however, police say that person transported himself to the hospital later this morning. it happened in this industrial complex on aladdin and alvarado streets. there was a warehouse party going on in one of the buildings in the back of the complex. party organizers had rented out one of these garages and after that party ended, organizers shuttled everyone out of the building. that's when the shooting happened. one man who happened to be working nearby heard it happen. >> rapid, which i assume was an automatic weapon of some sort. machine gun or something. i thought it was going inside the building. >> we don't know what led up to this. >> you don't know if they were targeted. >> we don't have any information that they were specifically sought out for this. >> you heard the sergeant say there were two gunmen they believed were responsible for this. police are still looking for them this morning because the two gunmen ran away after the shooting. police don't have a suspect description just yet. police are also trying to find out more about this warehouse party. it was advertised online and on facebook. the sergeant here says investigators are interviewing witnesses who attended the party as we speak this morning but they're getting conflicting information about exactly how many people showed up at this party. the sergeant says anywhere from 100 to possibly as many as 400 people attended this party and it was advertised to people across the bay area. police don't know who organized the party. that's one of the things they're trying to find out this morning. they say anyone who may have seen or heard what happened or anyone at the event last night, should give san leandro police a call. an off-duty san diego police officer was among two people killed in a chain reaction crash on a busy freeway. officers say 34-year-old jason drove into a stalled vehicle before dawn yesterday on interstate 15. several other cars slammed into the first pileup. he was running across the freeway to help other drivers when a border patrol officer crashed into him. the roadway was filled with thousands of people heading to the miramar air show. a 9-year-old girl has died and this morning, her mom is in critical condition after the two were involved in a fiery car crash. we do want to warn you the video is disturbing. the crash happened yesterday on highway 101 in calabasas. for some reason, highway patrol says the mother lost control of her car and crashed into a tanker truck. the car flipped over and caught fire. we later found out through statements from her and from some of the other individuals that there was a 9-year-old female inside the vehicle. we don't know where she was sitting. she was deceased upon arrival. >> several witnesses came to the mother's aid dousing her with water and smothering the flames. she suffered burns to 90% of her body. >> two fallen san francisco firefighters were remembered at a memorial in sacramento this weekend. and hundreds of uniformed firefighters gathered at the state capitol for yesterday's service. governor jerry brown was there and he spoke of the firefighters ultimate sacrifice, the memorial also brought together family members of the fallen. >> at last call, it gets me every time. it is a great tribute. he deserved it. happy to be here. >> among those honored were san francisco firefighters lieutenant vincent perez and firefighter paramedic anthony valerio. they were killed in a house fire back in june. their names and 28 others will be added to the california firefighters memorial in sacramento's capital park. >> california's victim notification system is going online. governor jerry brown signed senate bill 852 this past week. it allows the department of corrections to alert victims of crime and their families about changes in their attacker's status through e-mail. previously, victims were only notified with a phone call or certified mail. >> oakland police officers are being told to watch what they say. since taking off two years ago, police chief anthony batts has instituted department a reforms. one is to crack down on profanity. the bay citizen reports one officer was disciplined for cursing to himself in his patrol car. the antiswearing stance is part of the community policing program but some members on the force say the clean language policy just goes too far. the san mateo city council is expected to vote tomorrow on a new contract for firefighters. "the mercury news" reports the contract calls on firefighters to forgo pay raises until 2013. firefighters would also have to pay more for their pensions and healthcare costs. and the retirement age would be raised from 50 to 55. the dole is expected to save the city $4.8 million over the next five years. the firefighters union has already approved the deal. the city council meeting starts tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. the former plant in fremont is now on the front lines of green car technology. tesla motors unveiled its model s, an all electric sedan the company says can travel 300 miles on a single charge. the first 5,000 cars have been purchased. an additional 1,000 customers are on a waiting list. >> we moved into the factory 12 months ago. so the changes, all of robots, the lines you see here were put together in 12 months. where will we be in another 12 months? pretty far. >> it is great for california to kind of lead the nation in electric. >> tesla says the electric sedan can go zero to 60 in four seconds. the base ticket price, $57,400. >> animal res cares are caring for a sea lion found on the bayshore freeway. rescuers say the sea lion crossed all lanes of highway 101 in burlingame before ending up in a ditch. highway patrol closed the on- ramp so they could corral the sea lion. the 150 pound sea lion suffered trauma to its jaw. good morning to you. partly cloudy students lived in the clark residence hall. the infected students have been quarantined but more students will be isolated if there is an outbreak. people are being told to review their immunization records. symptoms include fever, headaches and swollen or tender salivary glands just under the ears or jaw. students in west contra costa unified school district are facing a whooping cough vaccine deadline tomorrow. district officials say students who haven't received the vaccine won't be attend class. the new state law requires all students in grades 7-12 to get a whooping cough vaccine. the deadline is 30 days after school starts. west contra costa school officials say hundreds still have not received the shot. a group of stanford students have developed a life saving device for newborns. the n brace baby warmer is currently being used in impoverished indian villages. the wrap has a special wax-like substance and water insert. the pouch stays at a does not temperature for up to six hours and it costs $200. >> the challenge posed to us was make a baby incubator that costs less than 1% of the cost of a traditional incubator which in the u.s. is about $20,000. in parts of india, more than three in ten babies are born prematurely or with dangerously low birthweight and keeping them warm is critical to their survival. stanford researchers now are working on an even cheaper device that does not require electricity. after more than three decades, the city of belmont has its own fire department. the city introduced 24 firefighters to the community. belmont and san carlos had shared a single fire department for the past 32 years. san carlos eventually joined redwood city freeing up belmont to go solo. department received two ladder trucks, three engines and a there. we have a pleasant drape for the afternoon. >> firefighters in nevada continue to battle a raging wildfire this morning. it started friday afternoon in burbank canyon in lion county. officials say it has burned about 1200 acres so far. and at one point, was threatening homes. firefighters believe the fire may have been sparked by lightning. so far, no injuries have been reported. well, the cleanup has begun in texas. one month after a devastating wildfire there of the largest wild fire in texas history destroyed more than 34,000 acres and 1500 homes. fema is now asking homeowners to sort through and get rid of their debris. >> we don't remove the debris. we don't get past this stage. we have to move forward. >> texas officials expect the cleanup to take up to one year and taxpayers are expected to shell out more than $19 million for cleanup efforts. months of air strikes in libya by nato forces soon could be coming to an end. the head of the u.s. africa command is calling the military mission in the country largely complete although former leader moammar gadhafi remains in hiding. this week, arizona senator john mccain issued a statement of support for libya. >> the united states and especially your friends in the u.s. congress will stand by you and be your ally now and always. >> controversy is already surrounding libya's transitional government though. human rights watch is accusing the new government of arresting thousands without proper legal review. the group also says some of those in custody have been tortured. >> changes are coming to military trials at guantanamo bay. the pentagon says it will now allow journalists to watch the proceedings on closed circuit televisions at a military base in maryland. previously journalists had to actually travel to guantanamo. the pentagon has unveiled the new web site that gives the public information on the proceedings. the changes come as the trial against alleged mastermind of the u.s.s. cole bombing in 2000 is set to begin next month. 1,000 people packed into a savanna, georgia, church to remember troy davis, executed for killing a police officer after the supreme court declined to intervene. friends and family who attended yesterday's final say they're working to capitalize on the attention his case received. they're vowing to clear his name and abolish the death penalty. >> the mental health hospital that houses the man who tried to kill president ronald reagan wants to release him. john hinckley jr. was committed after a jury found him insane shortly after the 1981 shooting of president reagan and three others. hinckley said he shot the president to impress actress jodie foster. doctors say hinckley's mental problems are in remission. he's been allowed to visit his aging mother for ten days at a time. hospital officials want him to move in with his mother. the federal prosecutors oppose this release. texas governor rick perry is spending part of the weekend in new hampshire. where he spoke to supporters at several campaign events including a group in manchester where he suggested the u.s. consider sending troops to mexico to help fight drug cartels. >> it may require our military in mexico, working in concert with them, to kill these drug cartels and to keep them off of our border and to destroy their networks. >> a perry campaign spokesman emphasized any military action would be a "cooperative arrangement" with the government of mexico. the u.s. government announced it will pay for extra home loan costs for veterans after v.a. memo caused some confusion. the veterans affairs department announced last month that certain loan fees would be lowered for vets beginning yesterday. but congress ended up delaying the rate reduction until november. lenders who did not know about the switch had already made loan deals based on the lower rate. the federal government will now absorb the higher cost and fees caused by the delay. nba owners and players will meet again on monday after a seven-hour bargaining session where no progress was made toward ending the lockout. yesterday's meeting was the longest since the lockout began on july 1st. there are two major issues that divide the players and owners. the salary cap and division of revenues. the regular season is due to begin in less than a month and the director of the player's union believes the entire season could be saved if the two sides agree to a deal by the middle of the week. the raiders are hoping another sold-out crowd will help them to victory over the new england patriots today. this is raiders defenseman lineman richard steamers first game against his former team. he has 39 sacks in eight seasons with new england. kickoff today at 1:15. the 49ers annual miramar air show last night. the wall measured 2500 feet and set a guinness world record back in 2000 for longest wall of fire. weekend air show included a performance by the navy's blue angels and the blue angels will be in the bay area next weekend. they're performing as part of san francisco fleet week which gets underway thursday. blue angels will perform saturday and sunday. the weekend also includes the parade of navy ships on saturday. overseas, afghans are rocking out at their first music festival in three decades. an excited group of people cheered and danced at the event in kabul this weekend. bands came from as far away as kazakhstan and australia. the six-hour festival featured an eclectic range of music everything from the blues to punk rock. deeply conservative muslim country had banned music under the taliban regime. no problems were reported during the festival. you have about two hours to head out to golden gate park to catch one of the largest free music events in san francisco. ♪ this is the hardly strictly bluegrass festival. it gets rolling around 11:00 this morning at speedway meadow. a total of 92 bands are performing in front of 800,000 fans over the three-day stretch. although there are mounted police patrols, the concert has historically been problem-free. >> it represents the best of san francisco. it is so many different people. so many different things to hear really good music. >> alcohol is not sold at the event. but people are allowed to bring the alcohol into the park. the festival ends at 7:00 tonight. >> south of the city, there is a celebration of japanese culture today on the peninsula. millbrae is holding their sixth annual japanese cultural festival. live entertainment, demonstrations, food, crafts and more. it begins at 10:30 this morning at civic center place. the admission is free. i know everybody is probably crossing their fingers, whatever you're doing today that, it will be rain-free. >> rosemary, bigger system arrives and some even indicating sort of a winter storm-like system because over the sierra, we'll see snow on the passes and we're likely to get anywhere from an inch to two inches,
