The police say early yesterday afternoon the 32yearold man approached officers at 16th and mission asking what kind of guns they carry . Police also say the man asked about ammunition, and if the officers had 6 shot and killed someone. Then yesterday Evening Police say that same man was at the Mission Police station in the parking lot which is a restricted area. Twice Police Officers told him to leave. After the second time police say the man reached for his waste band where officers could see the base of a handgun. The Police Officers open fire, they shot the man 3 times, he later died at the hospital. San Francisco Police chief says the gun turned out to be fake but didnt have the orange tip that usually means it is not a real gun. The chief plans to hold a town hall meeting couple of days to explain to the public the details of what happened. In a few hours a storm assisted center will open in san mateo county. This trailer park in redwood city hit hard, people still cleaning up weeks later. Some homeowners say the damage costs are estimated in the thousands of dollars. The Police Department will be taking a closer lock at how a shooting unfolded in the parking lot of a Police Station. Officers shot and killed a man after they say he threatened them with what turned out to be a fake gun. Ktsu joining us from San Francisco to tell us what happened and how the department is responding. Reporter yes, this violent encounter took place at an unlikely location, the parking lot of a Police Station here in the mission on valincia street. The Department Says these officers were forced to shoot when the man drew his weapon at them. The encounter happennened just as 3 officers were leaving the mission station just past 5 00 spotted a man standing in the parking lot which is clearly marked for police only. The police chief says the officers told the man to leave, he walked away and so did the officers but when they got close to the gate the man was still there. The chief says the man then drew a gun from his waistband, 2 of the sergeants grabbed theirweapons and open fire hitting him 3 times. It turns out the mans gun was not real. It appears that the weapon is an air soft pistolor pellet or bb gun. It is an authentic looking gun, well have a town hall in the next couple of days and a picture if not the real gun for people to see. The 32yearold man under went surgery but died at the hospital. Police dont know why the man was in the Police Parking lot, they say he approached officers earlier in the day asking what kind of weapons they carry. The officers involved are on leave which is standard procedure, investigators plan to look for Video Evidence and witnesses the chief also plans to hold a customary town hall to explain exactly what happened. The family was headed home when the plane began to have engine trouble. The girl was still strapped in here seat but she was able to free herself and walk through the woods to find help. Improving weather in indonesia allowing search and rescue crews to head back into the water to uncover more pieces of the airasia flight. 5 ships with special equipment are in the area to help find the planes black box. 162 people were on board that plane. We have very hazy skies out there today, it is going to be a little bit of patchy fog not too much, over all temperatures will be coming up a little bit. Some of that patchy fog, santa rosa has some, otherwise cool and cold, not as cold as it was last week, thats for sure. Hazy sunshine, storm track jet stream whatever you want to call it going up and over and driving down into the middle of the country. Northern plains bringing cold temperatures to them. Yes, 30s are still cold for us, a lot more 40s and in fact temperatures will be coming up a little bit, 45, 45 belmont, 40s and 50s at the surface, as you go up in the atmosphere, you find warm layer that traps everything underneath. Back in the old days we got that fog in the valley, wed get warm weather. We hope it doesnt stick around for 2 or 3 months. Cloud cover to the north thats about it. Everything goes up and over, all signs point towards this just kind of falling apart and giving us cloud cover. Brutally cold, i mean, theres your plunge. That cold air looking at minus 3, chicago, as long as thats in place, it is like a boulder in a stream. Everything is moving into the northeast, southeast also into the Northern Plains inner Mountain Region not here. Not us. And out of those 40s, and 30s for l. A. And san diego.
