Heavier rain headed our way soon. Well tell you the warning from the chp. We have a lot of reports especially in San Francisco. Pretty good rain going through. Also up to the north. It looks like things are calming down a little bit. Marin county getting decent rain here. Also in San Francisco the sunset district anthony, castro, and debose triangle. When you see that dark green that can pick up a little bit. Not too much highway 4 but a little bit starting to pick up as well into napa county and the peninsula Santa Cruz Mountains it looks like santa cruz coastline. The breeze picking up a little bit here but look for some of that rain to move into the south bay before too long and there is plenty offshore that will sweep in. Cloudy day off and on rain. Occasionally could be heavy but then it calms down rapidly. There could be thundershower activity. 50s and low 60s. Heres sal. Good morning. Right now we are looking at wet roads in some areas. We are here at the bay bridge toll plaza right now. You can take a look at the conditions. The roads are dry but that may change very soon. Strong storm cells are moving through the area. According to the National Weather service. There is a possibility of lightning and hail with some of these cells. The rain of course arrived yesterday here in the bay area with showers on and off all day long. This is the start of a long period of wet weather and the chp is preparing for problems on the roads. When it rains officers typically see twice as many crashes as they usually do. And even during breaks in the rain drivers still have to stay alert according to officers because the roads do remain wet. Now the chp is reminding everyone to slow down, make sure you have the headlights on. Its also a good idea to check on the windshield wipers and make sure they are in proper working order and make sure your tires have plenty of tread. Right now we are getting rain drops. New this morning San Francisco police busy investigating a suspected hit and run crash early today. It happened around 12 40 this morning right there at the intersection of geary and vanness. A sedan slammed into an suv. We are told four people may have been inside the truck and three in the sedan. Witnesses say the people in the sedan a man and two women allegedly tried to run from police but they were captured. So the girl was in a black shirt and blood on her face is what i saw. There were injuries in both of the vehicles involved. None appear to be life threatening. Tara moriarty is there. She will have a live report from the scene coming up at 6 45. Oakland detectives are searching for the gunman responsible for the citys latest homicide. Police heard gunfire around 10 30 last night near eighth and campbell streets. When they arrived on the scene they found a man that had been shot several times. They placed dozens of markers to show where shell casings were found. The name of the victim has not yet been released. They called for medical. They attempted to give the victim first aid. Unfortunately the victimmed succumbed to his injuries prior to the arrival of the ambulance. Stray bullets hit buildings in the area but no one was injured from those bullets. Oakland city leaders are offering support to the citys shot spotter program. That is a system of sensors that documents the sound of gunfire and pinpoints its location. Several counselthe mayor spokesman say there is are no plans to cut it from the budget when the 348,000 a Year Contract expires at the end of august. New satellite images show 122 objects floating in the southern indian ocean. There are various sizes. They amere to be bright. They could indicate solid materials. We have obtained a field trip permission trip that guinto asked parents to sign shortly before his arrest. Now Officials Say they knew nothing about that trip planned next month. I want you to take a look at what these lawns look at. Up and down the street you can see lawns have streaks of yellow and black dead grass. People who live here say as many as 30 lawns have been vandalized. It appears something is being sprayed or poured on the grass causing it to day. Neighbors thought it was a prank because it started halloween night in 2012 and then again in 2013. But so far this year it has happened every month. They are concerned because the attacks are getting bolder. Everybody feels violated. And everybody is upset. Peel take a lot of time and energy to keep their yards up and have this senseless act. The official death toll is now 16 but as many as 24 are feared dead and at least 176 people are still listed as missing. Crews say in some areas the dirt and debris is 20 feet deep. In other places it has the consistency of quick sand. They say yesterdays rain made the situation even worse. There is a little kid out there. The rescue of a fouryear old boy is one bright spot in this otherwise grim story. The photo was taken by First Responders just moments after they saved the life of that little child. They spotted him nearly drowning in the mud. The little boys neighbor was on scene when he was rescued. So they brought him to us in the ambulance and i took all of his clothes off because he was freezing and wrapped him up and held him and told him i was a grandma. She comforted the little boy until his mother arrived at the hospital and says the childs three siblings and father are among the people still missing. The crew that saved the boys life has given them hope to cory on. A local volunteer leaving san jose to join the relief efforts in washington. Some volunteers left yesterday. More than a dozen firefighters trained in search and rescue operations from california are also responding to the disaster area. We are learning more about the young man that was killed by a suspected drunk driver in fremont. He was a 23yearold marine that had just been back from a tour of duty overseas. Lance Corporal Andrew silva was riding his motorcycle early yesterday morning when a car ran a red light and slammed into his bike. Last night family members and friends gathered for a candle light vigil at the intersection where he was killed and earlier some of his fellow marines had rushed to the crash scene. They brought a u. S. Flag and Marine Corp Flag down to cover up the body out of respect to him. The young marine had just returned home from afghanistan last month. He was mar bid with a twoyear old son. San Francisco Police chief greg suhr faced an angry crowd. He was trying to explain why Police Officers shot and killed a man. He is a Security Guard but for Mental Health reasons on friday night someone called 911 reporting there was a man with a gun in the park. Police officers responded. Chief greg suhr says the officers told 28yearold nieto to show them his hands. He drew his taser and because officers could only see a black weapon they opened fire. They asked him to show his hands to which he responded you need to show your hands. I would expect them to know the difference between a taser and handgun. The family members and friends of nieto said he carried a taser because he worked as a Security Guard for a nightclub. They now plan to protest the shooting. Reporter yes, it is looking like this was a hit and run but the suspect didnt get very far because their car was so smashed up. We do know the crash looks a lot< than it actually was. All seven people involved in the crash ended up going to the hospital but none of them have life threatening injuries. This happened on the corner of vanness and geary shortly after 12 30 this morning. Investigators say that a silver sedan slammed into a van and the three people inside the sedan tried to run off. Some girls they probably say they stole the car. The ones that hit the car all ran away. Reporter police have not confirmed was in either vehicle or exactly how the accident played out. But witnesses say that officers ran after the suspects and were able to catch them. No word yet on if the car was stolen or who if anyone faces any charges. Governor jerry brown will be among the thousands attending this mornings funeral for the sheriffs deputy killed in the line of duty last week. The memorial for Service Deputy ricky delphi reason tee know. That suspect was later killed in a shootout. Police have arrested these two young men along with 12 juveniles whos names were not released. The fire started at march 16th. The homeowners were gone on vacation. Investigators say a group of teenagers broke into the house and hosted a series of alcohol and drug fueled house parties. A car was also stolen but later recovered. Even though its a noninjury crash, it is blocking lanes as they try to get the cars out of the way. It was also reported near treat boulevard. So its somewhere between those two points. Lets take a look at the drive pictures. Eastbound on the bay bridge near pressure island there is a solo spin out. And that is blocking two right lanes. You need to give yourself extra time there will be a slow down getting out of the city. And the morning commute will be busy in san jose. That is a live look at 280.
