A News Conference is set to start and we will carry it life once it gets underway extract were following more big news where a postal worker has been shot on the job our footage shows several evidence markers the workers mill truck. We have more on this breaking news. Reporter except for the glass you can see over there lying in the street, this crime scene has been cleared. And now the investigation is underway. At noontime today, here is what we think happened. A Postal Service worker was driving her truck to deliver mail. She was somehow, came under a fierce amount of bullets. It was unbelievable the number of markers laying in the street. Four of those bullet struck the vehicle and one of those bullets struck her. She is in the hospital in stable condition. They do not know if this was a shootout she got in the middle off, or if somebody targeted her vehicle. The evidence shows she got in the middle of something. The situation for her was that she was hit by gunfire and federal Law Enforcement agents are out here in full force checking this out. Here is what the spokesperson for the United States Postal Service had to say. This is a federal crime. The letter carrier is in stable condition. We are not releasing her name or any other information regarding the carrier. This is a serious crime. We have a steady 50,000 reward if anyone has information. Contact you go Police Department or postal inspectors. Reporter the police do not know whether she was targeted or whether this was an unfortunate happenstance. The truck has been towed away. It is interesting to note, the mail that was not a part of the crime evidence was taken and is on its way to being delivered. The situation here was very unusual. I spoke to a person who lives in the neighborhood, and she said this is another new low for a for a. Kids can play around here because its so dangerous. When she was a little girl in this very same neighborhood, it was easy for her to get around. She feels sad for the families and people that live in this neighborhood to have to put up with this. This is just one incident out of many. Now to the very latest on that massive fire in oakland. The first call went out to emergency crews at 4 20 this morning. It didnt take long for that fire to take off. An hour later a construction crane right in the middle started moving wildly and threatening everyone at the scene. The crane remains a serious concern as well. 15 minutes later, 5 45, the flames and extreme heat cause a large portion of that building to collapse. Four hours after the first call, crews finally were getting a handle on the frame on the flame. It happened on valdes street near grand avenue, very close to lake merrick. Lets listen in on the press conference. I will give you an update on our firefighting efforts. Currently, right now, we are dousing hot spots. The fire is under control. We will be here throughout the night and the evening to make sure that there are no flareups. The fire is currently under investigation. We are working with opd to investigate this fire diligently. We have a tip line set up and the number is 5107773333. If there are any individuals out there who have any information, that may lead or help to bring some type of closure, help the investigators come to some sort of determination of this fire. As of right now, there will be efforts to bring in heavy equipment to get ready to work throughout the weekend and to help secure the crane that as you can see behind me, find out how the crane will be safely brought down. We will dismantle the scaffolding around the current structure. Right now, there is a perimeter around the structure. The borders of this parameter are harrison, lester, between 23rd and 24th. We want to keep this perimeter, as a perimeter. In the event that the crane might fall, the crane operators feel it will be stable at this point. Right now, they will be here throughout the weekend too working to clear the area and make this area safe for residents to return to their homes. Are there any questions . When will the residence be allowed to come back . Right now, we do not have a definite timetable. Like i said, crews will be coming to throughout the night. Fire crews will be here throughout the night. We are working to set up for saturday and sunday for dismantling of scaffolding and securing the crane so they can prepare for dismantlement do we know how many people have been displaced quick right now we dont have a definite number. We do have occupants who asked for overnight lodging who will be staying at st. Vincent depaul. Other individuals are staying with friends and loved ones in the area. We have the Evacuation Center at christ of light church. And now the shelter for those who need it will be at st. Vincent depaul. We have outraged that has taken place for the businesses. One of the things we look at that has been troublesome with this fire, we are delayed with getting 139 units of much needed housing in the Broadway Valdes corridor. Residence have a fiveyear process for this plant. Much needed retail and housing in the corridor. So far, we have heard from the developer and the builder. We want to get back and motion. We believe this will not have a Chilling Effect on other developments in the corridor. This is much needed housing and much needed retail. It soon burst to for alarms with embers and flames lighting up the predawn sky. The smoke could be seen for miles. Of the firefighters said they had no choice but to attack the fire defensively. Ktvu cameras were rolling as part of the building collapse. And then there was a giant crane at the construction site that began to spin from the heat and the fierce winds. Econo fire and sparked concerns it will fall down. The fire forced hundreds to evacuate for i was completely asleep and someone knocked on my door. I opened it up and it was to Police Officers who were evacuating everyone. I quickly got my phone and my keys. Reporter by 8 am firefighters had things under control. Dangers remained. Weve got members from multiple entities working right now to develop a plan on safely addressing the crane, and safely addressing the scaffolding which continues to pose a hazard for First Responders in any citizens who may be working or living in the area. Youre the one that noticed this. That green image the people are seeing right there is the fire. It shows how hot this thing was burning it detected a temperature of over 1100 degrees fahrenheit. This is the most advanced weather satellite. It was launched back in november, 2016 from cape canaveral, florida. It captured that heat signature from the fire. Forecasters have been impressed lately with the detail with the thunderstorms and convection and even the fog. I think the forecasters at the National Weather service in monterey, wow, that amount of detail. The sort of satellite picks up a fire larger than 80 acre. Here you were talking about a construction site. Yes. It just shows how intense, of course of the fire like this, intense heat. It is so compact and such a column heading up into space. Pretty impressive. This, of course, we will be tracking hurricanes and thunderstorms and help with better forecast as well. The most advanced weather satellite. As far as temperatures here today, the inland spots are easily over 100 degrees. These are all unofficial highs for your friday afternoon. We were just told it was about 50 done. That would have included 200 units in 41,000 square feet of retail space. As we heard from the mayor, this comes at a bad time for oaklands housing price. Three or four big fires, the ghost ship warehouse fire. The mayor says they should not dampen the spirit of those who want to live and play and work here in oakland. One effect of the housing shortages that communities are getting ripped up and destroys through gentrification. You see a city changing and to see a city does not building Affordable Housing or not enough Affordable Housing. You get this emotional reaction that im going to do something about it. There are productive and nonproductive things that you can do. I think this fire was very destructive. We will see that housing of february. Thats 200 families that will be the house. The Labor Department says that is because more americans began looking for work, but not all of them found jobs. News of a recession is a little exaggerated. Last year there was a 40 chance of recession. The market had started to get a little bit better. We have had three months of really strong top growth. Today, 220,000 jobs. Thats a big number. We only need 100 for our economy to breakeven. Thats a good run rate for a 2 economy. If you take the past three months, we have averaged 195,000 jobs per month which is robust. April and may were revised. That is why were getting an average of 197 that is why were getting an average of 197,000 jobs. Analyze, we will be at 1. 9 million jobs by the end of the year. Unemployment up just a smidge. By the end of the year, can we see it under 4 quick there is slack in the work environment. You have people coming back in. If we continue at 180,000, 190,000 run rate, we could see the Unemployment Rate rate tip to 4 thats good news. It hasnt happened. This is a phenomenal time. Weve had every month increasing. So many jobs. The market is doing well. Wages have not gone up as well. Thats a good observation. Wages have increased at about 2. 5 . Why is that such a low number . It might not be a low number. Inflation is below 2 . So if we were at an inflationary time right now and inflation was 6 and you have a 7 increase, you would be happy with it. We are seeing 2. 5 . We are not going to see that go up until some things happen. That would be inflation. If inflation hits, we will see wages go up. We saw Interest Rates go up in june. 1 4 . The fed was carrying a number of liabilities, 4 trillion. That will come through eventually. The fed has an asset sheet. We have 4 trillion of liabilities. Prior to 2008, we only had 1 trillion of liabilities. Now we have four. Thats 25 of the gdp which is too high. The fed responsible for the federal open Market Committee has stated theyre going to start selling off those liabilities. That will happen around november. We probably wont see a kick up in the Interest Rate until december. She feels that were going to have inflation. We have been waiting since 2008. Its okay for us. This fire started yesterday afternoon and spread quickly because of dry grass and rugged terrain. One person was injured. A grass fire in San Francisco forced the shelter in place at a school. It was reported just before 1 30 at the Crocker Amazon playground. They were asked to remain inside with the windows close. Im guessing they have summer activities going on. Crews were able to keep the fire from burning more than two acres. No injuries were reported and those no structures were threatened we are told to expect temperatures topping 100 degrees. Outside right now, we have this. Mostly clear skies looking out toward the bay bridge. Stubborn fog to the west of the scene. Right now, the entire bay area is in the clear.
