Pretty much where they would remain at this hour to squeeze in a little bit closer to take a look at where they may have a few scattered showers at this time in and over portions of the south bay and the mountains reported there. Some areas are picking up half an inch toinch for the santa cruz mountains, sliding along the peninsula, mainly dry seeing just one little light cell over areas of southern portions. And that you may have just a little bit of the light rain along 280. And that were shifting to the east bay with a few more scattered showers here. And for the east bay along 580. And along highway four right around antioch working their way through pittsburgh this afternoon and as they would head over to portions of the north bay. And that it will be here in just a moment. Lasting all the way for tomorrow morning, the pines, right about 4,000 feet, the trip up towards the sierra again, the Winter Weather area for tomorrow morning and then the Flash Flood Watch for 9 00 this evening in the rocky and the jerusalem fire areas in the county areas, although it is not there in that graphic. And you can see more on the way. As they will continue to wind down and ill show you what is expected through the evening hours, how much rain fell, the cool weather that will move in afterwards in just a bit. Yeah, this homeowner said that they would be lucky to be alive, given what happened this morning, after they struck their tree, now let me show you it looks like a bomb went off in their backyard this is what it looks like this morning, the massive chunks of their tree, believed to be a redwood scattered everywhere, all because of the lightning strike. They woke up to go to the bathroom outside and in the corner of the eye they would see lightning and then heard that explosion and where she would go back inside and that they saw a big piece of the tree that went through their bedroom window, landing right on her bed. And you can see it, the grass shattered every the glass shattered everywhere. You can see the tree just exploded in front of me. And that they would give me a minute and that is a miracle. Yeah. Usually that the trees, they would fall down, but this is not with the lightning that would just cut the tree in half and that it has exploded. Reporter well her neighbor is the the baxter, also showing us where a part of the tree also came through this end. One of the logs, they went crashing through their kitchen window, breaking up a few lights, nearly missing the wife here who was inside that kitchen, grab me a cup of coffee and then she left in a matter of seconds. And all of them are considering themselves lucky and my photographer, they would deploy this tree that it would have been more than 100 feet tall towering over the house. No longer here. Crews have been spending the day cleaning up all the mess. And that a lot of pets, they dont necessarily like thunder and lightning and im wondering how simones dog is doing. Reporter yeah, that little dog, that they were certainly rattled, shaken up. When we saw her this morning, that they really are crediting the homeowners and the dog for saving her life. And for waking her up early. Getting her out of their bed. And because as we have showed you that log, they went right straight on to her bed. Oh, she is just so fortunate and that sometimes that it will be as cold out and that youre in your bed and that they might make that dog wait a little bit longer before they need to get up. And the students from uc berkeley, also from their Public High School and in berkeley, they say that diversity would increase if the university admitted that the top 10 of the students from each open Public High School. And the rally started at noon in front of uc berkeleys building. A rainy wait for some passengers that are trying to hail a cab at the San Jose International state and the estimated 300 taxi drivers would walk off the job at 8 00 this morning. And that they would happen tomorrow and the head of the city council meeting. The Council Member there will consider eliminating the mandatory fingerprints where all drivers of the Ride Sharing Companies like uber and lift. They have placed that counselor proposing the monthly background check from 1 of the drivers. And that they are arguing that they ultimately show you the finger plants and that they should do the same. And requiring the drivers to get fingerprinted. That they would denounce that scheme and that drivers would refuse to sign up. The preparation is outside way in milwaukee ahead is underway in milwaukee ahead of the gop debate. Preparing jeb bush, still looking for a breakout moment after he admitted that he would fair poorly in previous debates. Volks wagon has yet to reveal volkswagen has yet to reveal a fix for their cars. 10 to 40 times the allowable amount of harmful ox sides while being driven. Helena with a few isolated showers in your area and lake county also reporting a few sprinkles. Going back up the hill where we would continue to watch the snowfall. That will remain in place for the sierras to city year all the way to the pass where the higher peaks could pick up 16 inches, which is just great news. For us, well continue with these few isolated sprinkles as we get in to the evening hours at 10 00. It is mostly cloudy and still a little bit of the blue there showing up on the screen as we would get going there tomorrow morning, pretty much finish. And that it will be closer from the early spring. Because of it, most of us would remain in the 50s today. And 58 in oakland with walnut creek and down in to the south bay of san jose. As you would look north, more of the same in napa. Tomorrow morning getting out the door, partly cloudy skies, just a very slight chance for the scattered showers. Again, well be on our way to the dry weather by then. 44 in fremont for the morning. 50 in oakland and the upper 30s for santa rosa and napa and close to 2, the coast, we have 48 for pacifica. 50 degrees San Francisco. President obama has been noticed for placing Climate Change on his list of top priorities, set to paris at the end of the month. They would outline the rule they would play at that congress attended by the world leaders. And first, that they are looking for the agreement that will reflect that ambitious target climate from all the countries participating. Second, were looking for an agreement that would put in place a longterm framework. And third were looking for an agreement that mobilizes ongoing financial and Technical Support for the low carbon development, especially for the poorest and most vulnerable countries. The conference will run. But president obama will only attend the first two days of the talks. Amazon is one of the most wellknown companies in the world and it is also one of the most profitable. Next hear how the amazon prime and online sales are just a small portion of how the business makes its money. Amazon may have turned the profit corner this year, managing the go from losing 37 million in the third 437 million in the Third Quarter of 2015 to profiting in the Third Quarter of this year. You might know amazon for their movies, online shopping, or the amazon prime service, but the profit boost is an asset that the company may not know about. Explain what aws really is. So aws is a collection of about 50 services that you could purchase. If you run a small business, if you run a company that needs hosting or a place to put data files or a way to create an e commerce site, they make it easy by subscribing to aws and picking and choosing the pieces that you need. And apparently aws is doing very, very well. Who are some of amazons biggest competitors when it comes to these web services . Right, so amazon was sort of in a class all by itself for a very long time, but recently weve seen a lot of strives by microsoft with a service that does much of the same. And even verizon or century link have both gone in to this game, this services game. Youve also got Google Offering their compute engine, which does most of the computing function, but without the storage or the analytics piece. Were you surprised to see how they could go, you know, one year, one quarter, then turn the page so well . Were you surprised by their success . Yes. And the surprise comes from many different pieces. But the first is that this year 2015 is the first year that amazon has broken out aws as its own item. Because we didnt really know how much money it was making with a lot of speculation that aws was actually losing money. Well in the First Quarter they found out that they were making about 256 million on about 1. 5 billion revenue. By quarter three they moved to 517 million on about 2 billion of revenue. And so this is the Fastest Growing spot of amazon. When you consider how much money they made this year verses how much money they lost last year, aws is the reason why they are profitable. Lets go back in time for a little bit because amazon, father wasnt even really in enterprise technology. I mean a decade ago. What happened there and how did they dive in to this . Yeah, this is a story about the silicone valley and that they would know very well. Amazon would built out an therefore for their services that they would need to sell a lot of products around the world to create this thing that is a cloud that will allow them to die gnatically allocate resources. Some of the people would say you know what, i bet that we would build up so much capacity to offer this to other businesses to sell them to the same services that we would use internally and the rest is history. But they started realizing that amazon would give their ability not to spend so much money on a lot of hardware that they would use for 50 of the time instead of building out the data center or building out the server farm that they would rent the cycles that they need from amazon and they dont pay for it the rest of the time. And the business is benefiting obviously from these services. Now, what about for us and their customers. Now, will we see some kind of fruits of their labor and the successes that will be trickling down to us . Reporter we already do. If you use reddit or netflix or pinterest or expedia or the adobe Creative Cloud are run on top of aws. Most of us use aws, we just dont know about it. What allows us to have it are the services that we like and the services that we enjoy on a platform that is incredibly robust that almost never goes down compared to what you would have to build if you were, lets say creating your own super computing center. True or false is the market for the Cloud Computing defining all expectations, father . It is to most people. There are a lot of us who have been following the enterprise for a very long time. We saw this as the future. We called it infrastructure as a service and it just made sense. If i as an i. T. Person dont have to put a lot of my capitol in to building out my own infrastructure, then i could rent infrastructure as necessary and it made a lot more sense. For us, this has been the progression of an idea that weve had for a while. I think that the surprise comes in on how fast it has come about in just 2015. We have realized that both microsoft and amazon aws have the potential for redefining the enterprise and where all the money is spent. Finally weve got to ask how you became a priest tech guru. I grew up in the silicone valley, so i used to own a Computer Company in the silicone valley before i was a priest. I was a geek way before a priest and they sort of fostered, they asked me to continue my techi wiz. Yes, they would do that. All right, father, thank you for taking the time. We appreciate it. Yeah, ktvu Maureen Naylor on the site right now with the latest on the story. Hey, maureen. Reporter hey mike and keba, this is a very active situation at this point. I want to show you what happened here at brandon and roth. We are watching as the San Jose Police helicopter continues to circle over the hostage situation, being kept very far away as they are being very careful not to show you the hostage taker what is happening. But we are watching it as it circles around Camden Avenue. It is a very busy stretch of san jose and that they would go perpendicular through highway 85 and near the cambrian area of san jose. This is what police say happened on 2 15 this afternoon and that the man fired two shots in to the ground before taking a living hostage inside that home. And on the 4400 block of Camden Avenue. When we arrived about 4 00, we saw the merge team essentially in front of the swat team when they would arrive and code three and with their sirens going. We saw Numerous Police arrive. At this point police are asking people to stay out of this area. They are concerned about the fact that the man has fired several shots in to the ground. And they are worried that other people are at risk and that is why were being kept about 200 yards away from their home as we are concerned about cross fire. People in the area are being asked to stay inside if you have to travel in this area that youre being asked to report to shut down. And in the middle school also in the area told to shelter in place and as police would try to negotiate with the hostage taker to move through at this point as they are concerned. They will monitor this scene and bring them updated at this point. And they would confirm that they made communication with the hostage or the hostage taker. Reporter mike at this point theyre not saying if they would have communications. At this point they said that they did fire those two shots as we have heard of the reports of the shots fired after that. And that it will be fired by the hostage taker and the understanding of this point. Now, we dont know in terms of what communication is happening, but police, they are as you can see them that they are concerned about the safety of the entire area and the hostage as well. Well the secret, it is our relationship, that they would look at their research to tend to boil up the same factor no matter what they would look at, the personality and their income and circumstances, and that thing that they will rise up to the top in terms of predicting the well being or the sustainable happiness that is now the quality of the relationship. Exactly, all the above. For some people it might be one relationship, a little bit less outgoing and that is okay if you have one that is very powerful. Why not . I know that youve seen the video as they would decide to go out there. They go to greet those flying alone. Were you surprised that they werent sure . And what was your reaction to that . Yeah, we dont really know the intenses of the strangers, were very touch deprived by how important it is for them to engage in physical touch with one another with that way of interacting with those strangers, not touching each other and that person is safe. So when you do encounter that stranger and you have that mentality that it will be the situations where they do not feel so warm and open and that one person, they did take that risk and they decided that they would have the trust for the other people that they would have nothing to make me feel afraid of them. Ill cross the line and touch what is safe that it is a whole response for them and the giver and the receiver that will be pleasurable. Win win for all of us. Where we would continue to have these snow showers fall down to 4,000 feet a little earlier as they would come up just slightly with the advisory there as well and that winter storm warning for their west slope if you will be traveling, lasting all the way until tomorrow morning right around 7 00 with a look at their circulation and the center of the storm. It is now continuing to move through the east of the foothills and eventually working their way out of the area. Well continue to see that cold air filter in and then that stable air will bring us a possibility for a few scattered showers as we would move through your evening hours. Most of us would remain in the 50s the entire day. 55 degrees right now in San Francisco. And the upper 50s in hayward and the temperatures are in and over portions of the north bay. One of the authors of the report would encourage the International Olympic committee to bar their Athletic Federation from the summer games in rio de janeiro. What we hope is that russia will seize the opportunity to move forward. And to take a lead in attacking that problem that has the potential to destroy its work. The report also recommends that russia be suspended from competition by track and field governing body. The doping agency would launch their investigation afterwards. San jose police have a perimeter surrounding the neighborhood as they try to negotiate with the suspect. Ktvu Maureen Naylor is in san jose now with the latest on what shes been able to learn. Maureen . Reporter well frank and julie, i just got an update from san jose as they are telling us that their team have arrived and now attempting to make contact with the suspect. At this point at this hour im standing at brandon and roth and about 200 yards from Camden Avenue. Let me show you whats happening as we still have their overhead to the San Jose Police chopper circling around the affected area. There is a wide perimeter set up at this hour. Let me tell you at this point as they are overhead earlier this afternoon. It all started at 2 15 as they say that when a man came to their home in the 4400 block of Camden Avenue and they fired two shots in to the ground beforeforcing a woman to go inside the home. They say that the team then was called out here as we were here about 4 00 this afternoon. Just about an hour ago as we saw the merge team units arriving, code three with their sirens on. And then in the last hour we were told that the emerge team and the swat team is setting up the perimeter as they are telling people to stay in place. Now, at this point, we know that the two shots were fired, but its unclear if anyone has been hurt and a short time ago we spoke to san jose Police Officer Albert Morales about why they would consider it so dangerous. Obviously the concern is that we would have an armed gunman. And that we want to find out what the relationship is with him and the female and that they could make sure that anybody else in the house including the states. To ensure that the public is there as well. This is affecting a lot of people in that area and the middle school is in the area. The students there were told to stay inside as they were not placed under a full lockdown along with other residence that are being asked to stay inside at this point
