General james mattis, mad dog mattis as a possible secretary of defense. What can you tell us about him . Well, its no wonder donald trump is impressed with jim mat mattis. They share a lot of the same views about the military and foreign policy. Since retiring in 2013, mattis has been critical of defense cuts, of announcing drawdowns in afghanistan in advance, and the u. S. De along with our approach to fi fighting radical jihadists. Saying we have not been clear about defining or dealing with terrorists. But he is beloved by troops, the kind of general that would take christmas duty watch so younger marines with families could enjoy the holidays. Women in the military may have issues with where he stands on women in combat. And if he is nominated by president elect trump, he would have to get a congressional waiver because you have to be out of uniform for seven years to serve as defense secretary. Someone else who might need a waiver. General david petraeus. Mentioned as a possible secretary of state. Very different messages. Very different messages, george. We dont know a lot about what happened in there with mitt romney. As for david petraeus, im not sure hes under active consideration. But there was another general who recommended that trump look at him. But all very different views on things. In the meantime, cokie roberts, the president elect facing more questions about his business and possible conflicts after that meeting with some Indian Developers who have real trump earlier this week. President obama talked about that yesterday in peru, and the president elect under some pressure from members of congress as well on this front. And from ethics officers of republican as well as democratic administrations saying hes got to do something about these business interests. President obama said he put all of his holdings in Treasury Bonds and basically said to his staff, if it sounds like fun, dont do it. Have not been any scandals in his administration so far. Donald trumps going to have a real problem here. He criticized Hillary Clinton for her Foundation Getting contributions from foreign companies, foreign countries. The foundation at least was doing good around the world. In this case, it would be a question of somebody trying to do business to try to get some sort of special favors from the government. Police are searching for this car right there. Abcs Kayna Whitworth has the latest. Reporter overnight, a manhunt intensifying. San Antonio Police searching for a suspect they say killed detective benjamin marconi, a 20year veteran of the force who was sitting in his patrol vehicle just outside police headquarters. Authorities say while he was writing a traffic ticket, this a man getting out and shooting detective marconi twice in the head through the passenger side window. Ive got an officer down in front of headquarters. Reporter the 50yearold father of two rushed to the hospital where he passed away. Most families would be celebrating the holidays. S. A. P. D. Will be burying one of its own because of an ultimate act of cowardice by a suspect who will be caught and brought to justice. Reporter authorities releasing these images of possible witnesses, asking them to come forward, and overnight in st. Louis, another ambush. An officer shot twice in the face while he was still wearing his seat belt. His weapon holstered. The officer says he saw the muzzle flashes and felt the floos glass breaking in his window as the shots came through and struck him in the head. Reporter the unidentified married father of three in critical but stable condition. After a citywide manhunt, the police and the suspect exchanging gunfire. The alleged shooter killed by authority. St. Louis, but around the country. Reporter over the weekend, two more shootings, in florida and missouri. Two Police Officers shot during traffic stops. Both recovering. Abcs linzie janis has more. Reporter this morning, the two suspects in the brutal slaying of 26yearold Joey Comunale are being held on 3 million bond each. Set to head to court later today where they could be charged with Second Degree murder. To do Something Like this to an animal, let alone a reporter overnight, one of the suspects, james rackover, the surrogate son of a prominent manhattan jeweler, denying any involvement in the murder. Telling the new york daily news, i have no reason to hurt this kid. I have never hurt anyone. I have never killed anyone. I didnt do this. But police disagree. They believe comunale went to this luxury manhattan highrise with 25yearold rackover, 28yearold larry dilione, and three women after meeting them at a nightclub. According to investigators, comunale left the highrise to help all three women into a cab, then reentered the building when police say, he was murdered. He was stabbed 15 times in the chest area. And also, there is an effort to burn his body. A very disturbing crime scene. Reporter Police Believe the victims body was removed from the apartment where rackover lives on this bloodstained luggage cart. Shallow grave in new jersey, 55 miles away. Reporter the two suspects have so far only been charged with crimes in connection with the murder, such as tampering with physical evidence, but prosecutors say one or both men will eventually be charged with seconddegree murder. That it was misleading and it misrepresented what actually happened. Sorts of things you would never see in a lawsuit here. We have seen lawsuits here against the media have been succeeding. Over the last five years in the united states, we had 183 incidents down to 150, down to 145, down to 103, and then this year, halfway through the year, only 31 incidents. So yes, there are fewer, but we hear a lot more about them, george. And david, i know this is shocking. But alcohol may have played a role. Im no expert here. But that is what theyre saying. And now people are saying, should alcohol be banned on flights . Theres always talk about that. Yes, alcohol was involved with some of the 41 taken off board. This is the big issue. Airlines, its a revenue stream for them. But they also dont want an unsafe situation inside the its been tried before. Flight attendants try to limit people. Like, havent you had enough . Then, as a doctor, i think this study brings up again that mindbody connection. We know theres a part of the brain that gets really lit up when we eat highsugar foods. And that pathway can be established very early in life, so remember that connection. And lastly, as a nutritionist, i learned, and this bears repeating, put that living color on your plate. So what are you going to whip up for us . In the spirit of thanksgiving, something that i traditionally do at my house. Thats mac and cheese. Yes, yes. And this recipe is in the book. Okay. I do it a little different. Its not your traditional mac and cheese. Were warming our milk. We have an egg. Were going to whisk it up. So you want to get a little bit of this in, because we dont want to curdle. We dont want to curdle. Do you do that . You dont want cooked eggs in your now were going to slowly put that in. What else . I got you, i got you. We have our cheese. And i helped i love it. So we have our cheese here. Sharp cheddar. Ooh. Perfect. Perfect. It gets tough. Heres a little spatula. Better. So we have a little bit of salt. Okay. Okay, i love sugar in my mac and cheese. A tiny bit of sugar. Thats a tiny bit . Its going to turn into this big dish. Ground mustard. Adds a nice little kick. A little pizzaz. All that goes in . And what the egg is going to do is bind everything. It bakes at 425 for 25 to 30 minutes. Thats it . Thats it. That goes in there. I make a topping. We have parmesan cheese. Breadcrumbs. Pancetta. A little salt. Parsley. We mix it all together. And then we just i like it. Pop it on top. That will cook and crisp up. Thats going to look like that. Great. Oh, wonderful. Hello. We heard mac and cheese. Its perfect. I love it. Amazing. So good. What is this . My spiced Butternut Squash mash. Its a nice alternative to your mashed potato. What is your special ingredient . Curry powder. Oh we have a little curry powder. And then, and then, i have cashew butter. Thats it. Adds a little protein if youre looking for that sort of thing on thanksgiving. We put that all in there. We can just combine everything. Lets mash that up first. Ill mash. You talk. I want to make sure we get to that. Brussels sprouts. Chop them in half. Onions. Pear. Yeah, uh huh. A lit tle bit of pear. We bake that off in the oven at 425, 450 until everything gets crisp and golden grown. Dried cranberries. Honey. A squeeze of lemon. Get the recipes well be right back. A valley woman is waking up in jail this morning accused of shooting and killing her boyfriend. Police tell us a man was driving with his girlfriend, when they got into an argument. And the woman shot him once. Investigators say the woman then asked a neighbor to call police, and she surrendered to officers as soon as they got to the scene near lamb and lake mead. The man was rushed to the hospital, but he later died from a viewer in the far northwest part of the valley. A semi truck went right through a neighborhood wall near azure police have not said what caused this crash. Happening today. Metro is holding their annual turkey drive.
