A project on pearl street in sioux city. And 303 dakota, in dakota dunes, south dakota. The lions share of the Development Money will go its a project that is so big, it will be done in several phases. Ktivs tiffany lane spoke with South Sioux City officials on how it will affect their economy moving forward. We added the crossing to it because the areass definied by the railroad bridge and then the highway 20 bridge going over between iowa and nebraska. The project will be done in two phases. The first phase is set to be completed by late 2016. It will include Riverfront Estates along the river and the village center. The second phase is expected to be completed in spring 2017 and will include a thoroughfare as well as commercial buildings and townhomes. I think its definitely going to help increase the population because obviously youre bringing in more houses and nicer homes and its just going to be something we have an opportunity to really be proud of, said kelly flynn. The hochunk, incorporated ceo says that while the project is said to be developed over 10 years, there may be more additions that will cause it to take longer. He says the project may end up costing more than 75 Million Dollars as well. The next largest development, virginia square, will cost 24Million Dollars. It will consist of three buildings. The project is in the old warehouse district, and is a group of Historic Buildings Offering High end contemporary condominiums, apartments and mixed use space for office or retail. Its also within walking distance of historic fourth street. Downtown sioux city, you take those dilapidated buildings and you put them into finish, its going to have a totally different feel when you come into downtown sioux city, said Dennis Johnson, ceo of hochunk capital, a subsidiary of ho chunk, inc. One of the buildings will have 20 apartment units, with available retail space below. Thats set to open in april 2016. The second building will be five stories high, and will have 28 apartments and high end condominiums on its main floors. The planned completion date is a year from now. Plans for the third building are in the works. Its set to be built in 2017. 303 dakota is a Master Planned Community in dakota dunes, south point five Million Dollars. The third most expensive project in hochunks developments is along the missouri river. It will be a threestory 47 units. Those units will have an indoor pool, fitness area and other amenities. They are hoping to have it completed by june 2016. Being developed at onepointtwo Million Dollars is called pearl street. It is also in sioux city. 607 and 615 pearl street are Historic Buildings downtown. The project will include at least four residential units. There will also be five thousand square feet for retail. Hochunk says those will be ready to open in february 2016. Another announcement included hochunks new partnership with a real estate franchise. Keller williams siouxland is based inside the Hochunk Centre in downtown sioux city. The Company Launched three months ago. Representatives say it serves as a training and Consulting Company for agents. As i was given the opportunity to come here and investigate the Economic Development and the growth happening in the community was a real attracter, said kacy bell, operating principle at Keller Williams siouxland. And so like i said, as i started meeting people and were referred to ho chunk, that was just a great match and great opportunity. Syrian refugees are still scheduled to be resettled in texas, even as the state fights their arrival with a lawsuit and them find a new home. Nearly 250 Syrian Refugees have settled in texas in the last five years, and more syrians are expected to arrive this week. Following the november 13th paris attacks, several republican governors have called for rejecting new Syrian Refugees, but texas and Governor Greg Abbott have fought it harder than any other. Immigration attorney richard gump says refugees already receive extensive vetting by the federal government before they are allowed into the us. And federal law prohibits states from restricting a refugee the federal government has accepted. A hearing has been set in the lawsuit between Des Moines Water Works and drainage districts in three siouxland counties. Attorneys defending sac, calhoun, and buena vista counties filed a motion to dismiss 10 of the 12 counts in the lawsuit. They say under iowa law, drainage districts are immune from suits and therefore those counts should be thrown out. Des moines water works is suing 10 drainage districts in the siouxland counties. The Water Utility says the water the Raccoon River is polluted by nitrates from ag operations upstream and the drainage districts arent doing enough to fix the problem. A hearing has s en set in the lawsuit between Des Moines Water Works and drainage districts in three siouxland counties.
