Police say that this happened at about 7. 10, this evening. A pilot was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. This picture here shows us the plan there on the ground. Officers have only identified the pilot as a man. We dont know if anyone else was on the plane. A new wildfire burning just outside of Yosemite National park is forcing evacuations right now. The oak fire began this afternoon and quickly spread to over 1600 acres, doubling in size in about an hour. This is the southwest section of the park near mid pines and Mariposa County part of highway one. 40 is closed. The fire is still 0 contained. So far no structures have burned. But were keeping our eye on this developing situation as that fire explodes today. Also, yosemite firefighters are making significant progress on the washburn fire, which is now almost 80 contained after it burned more than 7 square miles of forest. The wildfire started july 7th and forced the closure of the southern entrance to yosemite and the evacuation of the community of wawona. The southern entrance of the park is tentatively set to reopen tomorrow morning. But of course, we have that new fire that just started today. The oak fire near Yosemite National park. What are the conditions like there tonight overnight as firefighters try to get it under control yet . Pretty windy and that one in a much more dangerous location that center right around where a lot more people attend ago. Right. One 40 there you can see the highway. As it winds its way up towards yosemite valley. So get in the half dome and all that beauty up in parts of the Sierra Nevada and 70 valley. And you can see all the smoke billowing from the oak fire. Theyre not so much this. The washburn fire located a little further to the south and the east, not as active today as firefighters kind of get a handle on that. But weve got some winds gusting over 20 miles per hour. So thats pretty breezy out there right now, hoping that will subside overnight tonight. It looks like it will somewhat but not all parts of california. Southern california. Also look at the potential for some fires. Weve got red flag warnings up along. Maybe some 40, maybe some 45 mile an hour very low humidity down to about 10 to 20 . Some fire conditions are right. Things are dry. Vector control is letting people know theyll be spraying the area with insecticide to keep mosquitoes from spreading the illness. Brooke jenkins says it was necessary to fire 15 staffers, many of whom she says were already on extended leave the day she took office. So each of those decisions was an immediate release. And, yes, i was prepared to replace each and every one of those individuals. However, there is concern among some progressives that the da is also planning on replacing the criminal Justice Reform programs that those staffers managed under her predecessor. The Innocence Commission is something that developed by chase of 2. Dean is one that im committed to keeping ive ive been very vocal about i will also continue the re sentencing work that was going on under however, i just want to make sure that everything that we do is done responsibly. Jenkins says its about setting a new tone. I have to make it clear to everyone. That we are no longer that safe haven for criminal behavior that has ended. Now the concern is that the Supreme Court might move to overturn same marriage rulings which could bring prop 8 back and leave thousands of same marriages in question. The Council Members want to see an initiative on the ballot to amend the state constitution. In washington, d. C. , Senate Democrats are calling for an end to the federal ban on marijuana. Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer has introduced the Cannabis Administration and opportunity act. If passed, it would legalize cannabis by removing the drug from the controlled substances act and allow states to make their own laws. A growing number of states including california, of course, have already enacted their own pot growth in sales laws. Schumer says his bill would also set up a regulatory system to ensure health and safety. I want to stress that this is the beginning of the legislative process, not the end. There were some power lines that were down from this crash pg and e is on the scene working to get power to those so far this area is just blocked off. Traffic is being diverted. In santa cruz. As you look further south, those temperatures are going to be heating up about 72 in santa barbara. 72 in long beach about 79 degrees in los angeles. And in the high country, weve got some warm numbers up there. Youve got 85 in south lake tahoe, 87 degrees and sunny in truckee. And how about a hot 98 degrees in reno. 95 in carson city. It looks like those temperatures again going to soar as high as 100 to one in oklahoma city. 100 in dallas, even 100 degrees in omaha. Well, back out doesnt look half at least along the coastline. But you get away from the coast and these temperatures get hot 104 degrees or 102 in bakersfield. 96 in sacramento on 105 degrees in reading around the bay area tonight, you can see those temperatures cooling off and then tomorrow by day, some sunshine in the afternoon with some patchy fog kind of lapping at the coastline numbers. Theyre going to be in the 50s with some drizzle overnight tonight into tomorrow morning youll find 60s inside the bay 60s and 70s. You make your way down the peninsula. And then were looking at some 70s and 80s into the south bay as you head toward the east bay. Those temperatures generally in the 80s inland and probably keep you out of the 90s, although its going to be close by tomorrow afternoon. But its not gonna last long. Here in East San Jose and what we know according to san jose police, this crash happened sometime right before 7. 15, and this is also a residential neighborhood.
