they've got the bark. the helps fight those fires when they come through. but yeah, hope they stay there. that's for the weather conditions today. but right now you can see that smoke plume starting this morning starting to raise right to the north. >> and then begin to push east by the afternoon. so you start to see that circulation that on shore breeze by the afternoon, kind of kicking all that the key national issues he's talking about at the white house. my tribe has lived on this land for 12,000 years. we call it oleyumi. you call it california. our land, our culture, our people once expansive, now whittled down to a small community. only one proposition supports california tribes like ours. while providing hundreds of millions in yearly funding to finally address homelessness in house. the governor, though, has dismissed those rumors. son says he's running for reelection in november. >> inflation hits a 40 year high financial analysts, georgia. joins us next with what we can >> inflation and the economy continue to be a big concern for many american. today's consumer price index shows the rate of inflation is at a 40 year high. for more on what this means for all of us were joined by financial advisor george machete from morgan stanley. george, thank you so much. president biden says the numbers are really not accurate because prices have started to come down since the june numbers were compiled. is that true? what does that mean? what do you sing? >> okay. everybody saw a shocking number this morning of 9.1% inflation. a lot of people don't realize that a backward looking number. it looks at the past 30 days, but he shot sports to to today. and if you want to go full up here, you're a car with gasoline. you find out you're paying about $0.50 to a dollar. less a gallon show the the price of a barrel of oil. now that was at $120 really fueling inflation. it's now down below 100 unit. that should continue. that will also lower food prices. and that cannot about 2 and a half percent off of this high inflation rate show. you know, we're seeing oil come down. we're saying, you know, metals, aluminum that are used for making cars come down ships. there's more chips now available to to make cars used car actually coming down. it was it was an extraordinary, you know, price a few months ago and housing even here in the bay area, the price points are coming down and the stores are full of them. a tory so those are the kind of things are happening. fast forward that lead us to believe that by, you know, the end of the year, we should be about, you know, 6.8% inflation down from the 9.1% he's seen today and the big weapon that the federal the federal government can use to try to get inflation down, as of raising interest rates. >> but there's a balance there, right? if you raise them too much too fast, you could cause the economy did go into a recession. so how do you find that sweet spot? well, candidate of this goes back to when we're kids, you know, the goldilocks center. and, you know, when the fed, federal can't get the economy too hot. >> it can't get to call if they if they make it to call by raising the rates very quickly. in fact, today with cpi coming out at 9.1% and the fed's meeting at the end of the month there's of that going on now that the probability of a 75 basis-point increase that we thought was 100% is now. 75. and there's a 25% probability them raising it to one percent. but i don't think dole overreact because if they do cool the economy down, that would really be purple because we have, you know, full employment right now. francisco bay area's 1.9% unemployment and ashley were people are working and making money unfortunate. they're spending money, too. and that's adding to the inflation until we get more in the tory and more supply into the economy. >> so george, in general, it sounds like you're pretty optimistic about things. you think the race will come down by the end of the year. but when we're talking about regular people, which we like to, you know, look at just your average folks. you talk about increase inflation versus we might be in a recession. what does this mean in practical terms for people? >> but this is going to be tough for people that are on a fixed income. this is, you know, senior citizens and also people that are hourly workers because 9.1% inflation means you've got to find extra money to come up for food gas industry. thanks. but if we can patient, if we can hang in there by 2023, which is just, you know, 6 months away, inflation should be at about 5% in the 1st quarter. 2nd quarter, we expect to have 3% the 3rd and 4th quarter. we expected to be at 1.6 of where, you know, we thought we'd like that to happen. that would be great show in the middle. people will suffer. but if we can all hang in there, you know, we're going to get through your economy is very, very strong and so many ways. and when one of benefit, everybody we've been hearing that the average family is paying $500 more a month this year than they were last year because of >> inflation in for a lot of even here in the bay area who are, as you just mentioned on an hourly wage. you know, they're working, but they're they're dollar is less and less further in helping them get by. so in the meantime, the next 6 months could be graham out. >> well, candies are difficult times, right, showing difficult times. you got to take difficult action. so if you're on a fixed income and inflation is eroding money that you have. you really have to look your at your weekend. your budget and look at your fixed costs and try to scrub those down, try to get them lower. and the variable cautioning that are we've been enjoying for, you know, many years now going out to dinner, you know, you know, that exercise activities, that gyms and things like that. unfortunately, is some areas of it during tough times may have to cut back on to get through this because again, our economy can be very robust. i mean, we're energy, independent. we can create our own oil we can create in the country. can do this. but in the middle, it doesn't go on forever. it is always a little different to get right now and we have to get through it. so, you know, people that means you have to sacrifice which is hard to do and you have to scrub down your caution and then you're going to get through this. >> any specific advice for families, people with children trying to do with school supplies and, you know, all the all that goes along with having a family. >> it is. it is terrific for because you just multiply those that actually may have won it. one person, earning income and family. >> maybe 2. if you're lucky, but you have to support 2 or 3 kids and with rent in the bay area. and that's what people really if you you know, do i have the means really that live here in the bay area? should i consider going to a lower cost, sherry? i mean, we have to be practical deputy real during times. and, you know, we try to make it work out, but not working you know, people that are making, you $80,000 in the bay area. are doing very well. but if they went to florida, they would have a pretty nice life so much people should go to florida. but i just say we really have to look at our own situations and we have to make some tough decisions so that we can be comfortable have a good lifestyle. >> we're certainly some tech workers that might be looking for jobs here because there have been a number of layoffs that have been announced that tesla sales some other big companies. yeah, not thousands of employees but hundreds. you know, those are people that won't be working as in a few weeks. >> well, pam and ken, this is something that we haven't sheen probably and 10 or 12 years. i mean, you know, our taxes for corporations have been low money spent free tech companies have not laid any people off. fast-forward, i don't see a lot of layoffs happening. what i do share job employers not willing to let go of these highly skilled individuals that they really, really need. so i don't think we're at that point yet where we're going to see layoffs. and this is why the r word recession. you know, it's less likely to happen when we have, you know, people working. we start seeing real layoff seriously >> you know, then we can. then we can start, you know, thinking about the r word a little bit more. but, you know, again, you know, the past 10 years, we haven't had any layoffs. and typically, you know, prior to that. >> a corporation with look at the rim play. they should they be layoff anywhere from one to 10% to get to right size. but technology has been able to allow us to compensate for that. you know, be be very efficient. so georgia and, you know, people have to be patient. we're almost out of time. real quick. just one of the key signs that you're looking for that people can look for in the coming months to say, ok? >> i can make it through or ok, i need to turn around a move like he just said. >> well, can do an about-face. dumped a look at the headline news. i mean, just, you know, get go to the pump and find out that you're paying $0.50 to a dollar less a gallon. if you're doing any woodworking or building supplies, those prices have gone down. also now, the real driver on this whole thing is really food and energy and we can. we can get more gas. that's what joe biden doing right now. and in the middle east are trying to get, you know, these other countries to pump out more oil. i mean, we're in energy independent ourselves, but we're expecting a lot of one gas and oil show. you know, we're going to see this over a period of time where prices to go down. you're not going to see it immediately. you know, but you're going to see different things. we're paying. you know, love, you know, 30% more down. it really more of a normal rate. >> alright, jewish and chatty, as always. thank you for your advice of the war in ukraine within that was certainly help things a lot. but of the day. thank you, george. ok, thank you. >> tiktok is stirring up some concern from federal lawmakers fear china could use that data for things such as targeted black male political manipulation and advancing artificial intelligence. some lawmakers are asking the federal trade commission to investigate tiktok and pressuring google and apple to remove tiktok from their app stores. >> there are a whole litany of of tools, but the federal trade commission can use in these kind of deceptive
