are in custody after a police standoff in coma. >> it happened on unit pero serra boulevard near ceremony boulevard earlier this afternoon. you can see in this video rather large police presence surrounding an rv that's parks there on the side of the road. we've learned police took a man and a woman into custody and police tell us the incident has ended. we're still working to get more information about what led up to those arrest will bring you updates as we learn more. >> 2 new developments are new developments out of tennessee tonight. 2 more memphis police officers have been disciplined and 3 emergency responders fired all in connection with the death of tyre nichols. this comes after video showed many more people fail to help nichols beyond the 5 officers accused of beating him to death. authorities say the 3 responders were on scene for 27 minutes before they finally put nichols into an ambulance. he died at the hospital 3 days later. 5 officers of the memphis police department are facing murder charges. 2 others have been relieved of their positions. the white house says that vice president kamala harris will travel to memphis to attend nichols funeral tomorrow. the mother of breonna taylor who was killed by police in louisville, kentucky and the brother of george floyd, who was killed by police in minneapolis are also expected to be in attendance for the service. another big story we're following tonight. president biden is planning to end to covid national emergencies that were declared at the start of the pandemic. but ending that emergency were among those to get significant pay hikes has after going on strike. now, some fear they may lose their jobs because university doesn't have enough money to cover the costs of that hike. kron four's dan kerman has the story. >> uc academic workers who receive big pay hikes after striking in november now fear they may lose their jobs because the university will hire fewer teaching assistants and researchers to cover the cost of the pay hikes. and it's not real in the face for the workers who fought so hard for races and also to the people of california to surf. >> quality education. >> the university would not go on camera but said in a statement the office of the president has not provided any guidance to campuses instructing them to reduce student enrollment in the cold. some of the numbers near record cold overnight last night. you got clear skies out there again. >> tonight, but not a strong offshore winds. i think temperatures maybe not quite as cold, but look at some of the numbers from last night. 27 degrees. that was only one degree above a record there in santa rosa. 29 in napa. 27 in the bottle. even 32 freezing in oakland that is very cold inside the bay. 33 in livermore 30 in concord and 34 in san jose. very chilly temperatures all around were headed for another cold one tonight, a frost advisory up for much of the bay area away from the coastline and the peninsula. you're going to see those temperatures again falling off in the low. maybe the mid 30's overnight. so expect some widespread frost again in many of the interior valleys. bay hills. and so tonight they're going to see a mostly clear skies. again, chilly temperatures, freezing numbers inland. and then tomorrow, mixed bag of sunshine and some clouds rolling on by and the temperatures still on the cool side. but a chance of rain return to the bay area on thursday night and into friday. another storm expected for the weekend. temperatures out the door right now to get chilly in spots in the 40's coastside. 49 now in livermore. 52 in san jose. 51 in san francisco. 49 and sonoma and 46 degrees in calistoga. we've got high pressure overhead, but a start to weaken a little bit. and you see the clouds begin to rule over the top of that ridge will see more those high clouds throughout the day tomorrow. now behind that, though, things get a little more interesting. high pressure will start to weaken a little bit, but not tomorrow. we're going hold on one last day with some cool temperatures in the mixed bag of sunshine and a few clouds. but after that, now things begin to change a seat on the models here, too. and we'll start to cloud things up. a few of those clouds rolling in as we head throughout the day tomorrow. then as we get into thursday, watch pal? the digital payment company headquartered in san jose cutting nearly 2000 full-time employers on the pay pal website. today it was announced 7% of company employees will be cut in coming weeks. the executives are blaming what they call a challenging macroeconomic environment. the ceo did not detail the severance benefits but call them generous. and not clear yet which teams will be affected only that some internal groups will be hit harder than others. also east bay base to work day laying off 3% of the workforce. the pleasanton company says workers in its product and technology division will be affected. one noticeable difference here. the business planning software company says these layoffs are not the result of over hiring during the pandemic and it actually plans to increase the size of its global workforce in 2024. and impossible. foods known for its plant-based meat products says it's laying off 20% of its staff and it is the second round of company layoffs in 5 months. impossible foods is headquartered in redwood city. it has a manufacturing site in oakland. not clear yet which workers there have been affected. much of the tech industry is cutting costs because of economic conditions, including rising interest rates, fears of a recession. also the shift in pandemic fueled demand for digital services in january alone. microsoft, google, parent alphabet and
