Death reporter San Jose Police say officer Daniel Morales on the force for two years made contact with ronald woods on monterey road. Reporter police say woods walked up to the passenger side of officer morales patrol car at around 630 thursday night asked for 10 the officers gun. Pam keep in mind morales was already under the impression woods was suicidal. Reporter police say at some point during the conversation, woods reached into the officers car and start going through a bag. Woods was told to stop, but he didnt. Morales deployed a taser, but with little effect. Police say woods then made a move towards the officer and thats when morales pepper sprayed woods. But he kept coming. But when woods made his way over to the driverside, reached into the car and tried to grab the officers shotgun, thats when the situation escalated. When officer morales thought woods actually had the shotgun in. Thats when police say morales fired. Another officer later fired a less lethal round at woods who was still struggling on the ground. He survived the shooting and was taken to the hospital before he is booked into jail. Neighbors are relieved to hear this wasnt a gangrelated incident. it does make it a lot easier. So, im sorry for the man that he was suicidal, but its good to know that it wasnt related to a burglary or something. it sounds like it was justified. if hes reaching into a cop car, you know, if youre gonna put yourself into trouble, youre gonna get into trouble.
