The department says, the suspect was stopped very shortly after that near an onramp to highway 92. This entire incident took about 10 minutes from start to end. A man has been shot and is now under arrest, after a high speed chase on the freeway, and a confrontation with a sheriffs deputy. The sheriffs vehicle sat in the middle of hesperian boulevard, while investigators combed the scene of the shooting. The chase all started when authorities tried to conduct a vehicle stop in the cherryland area. The driver of the black bmw took off. Officers lost sight of him while on northbound 880. Sot the initial traffic stop was from a different deputy than the one that was here. That was for a vehicle code violation. Another deputy spotted the car on hesperian and grant. In fear for his life, authorities tell us he fired two shots at the suspect, who then sped away. Sot it appeared the suspect moved his vehicle in the direction of the deputy the driver was hit in the bicep, but managed to get to the 92 eastbound ramp, where his car was disabled after acquiring two flat tires. The suspect took off on foot but was caught and arrested nearby. Sot the suspect was transported from the scene and is now being treated for his wounds at a local hospital. Authorities believe the suspect is connected to a stabbing that occurred earlier today in hayward. As for the deputy involved in the shooting, he will be on paid leave as the investigation continues.
