Reporter Santa Rosa Police say 37 year old Richard Shreckengaust kidnapped a female acquantance in san rafael around 10 30 on thursday night. This photo is from shreckengausts facebook page. Police say the victim was in his car smoking marijuana but, when she asked to get out police say he refused to let her outbut, she was able to text a friend that she was in trouble. The female was texting this person that she was in a vehicle heading to Sonoma County against her will and was concerned for her safety. Reporter sheriffs deputies spotted the vehicle in santa rosa and the chase was on. Police say sheckengaust tried to get away from police and was able to avoid spike strips that were set out to stop the car. Eventually, the suspect crashed the car at Oddfellows Park road. At that point the deputies were able to assist the victim to safety. During the process of trying to take the suspect into custody, the suspect was fatally shot. Reporter police say sheckengaust did not comply with officers commands and made a movement that led the officers to think he was reaching for a gun. Police say no gun was foundas for the motive, that part is unclear.
