withdrawn her support of the movement because she says she does not have enough votes. they had agreed to mat make any formal willingive action tonight. here's what the meeting was like earlier. dozens of occupy supporters packed the oakland city council chambers thursday. mayor jean quan was there, and listened to every speaker. at times, the meeting was heated. especially when occupy protestors continued speaking past their allotted time. counsel president larry reed asked those people to stop tauging, and when they refused -- talking -- and then asked police officers to escort them away from the podium. >> if you think this occupation will distract us, we are focused before this occupation and we will be focused after. your two minutes are up, jean quan! >> officer? officer -- officer officer, can you escort her from the mike nelson? would you escort him away from the mike nelson, please frrs >> i can assure you, i was with 10,000 people there, almost 99.99% of them were peaceful. >> reporter: howard jor an also spoke to the council about the violence -- jordan also spoke to the council about the violence over night. people in the chambers yelled and screamed and called the chief a liar. he says the items were used by the protestors to vandalize buildings and injury police officers. the chamber of commerce officials told the council some businesses refused to come to oakland now because of the occupiers. >> three transactions at a minimum that i know of have canceled as a result of that. a 35,000 square-foot deal is out the window. >> reporter: now it's up to mayor quan to take a stance on this issue. we're told that the council may take up the occupy movement again at their council meetings a week from this tuesday. and today jean quan spoke about the violence broke out over night. this is video of police clashing with the protestors. some of them vandals. quan praised police efforts to isolate and arrest the protestors who were not peaceful, she remains unsure about how long the city of oakland can continue to absorb the damage. >> i don't know . i wish i knew. day to day we have to start negotiating. i think we have an opening now. there are some people talking. there's growing community pressure on them to talk to us. and the only resolution we can have here is one where we talk to each other. meanwhile a spokesman for the oakland chamber of commerce expressed frustration today with quan's handling of the protest. he says the city is becoming undesirable to do business. after yesterday's shutdown at the port of oakland, the port is now back open for business tonight. that was not the case early this morning when a handful of the protestors continued to prevebt workers from coming into the port -- prevent workers from coming into the port. 8:30 or 9:00 this morning, they convinced the protestors to let the operations rule. the economic effect of yesterday's brockade won't be known until next week. much more on our
